Power Progression

Background and History

Xia Zhiqiu is Su Ye’s childhood friend and high-school deskmate. Ranked third in Martial Arts in their class, he qualifies for Second High School’s Elite Class alongside Su Ye by holding Ring 42 during selection 8 21 23. He calls Su Ye “A’Su,” celebrates his achievements, and worries about falling too far behind him 60 65.

Su Ye helps Xia advance through the first selection round by conceding their match after winning four matches himself. During the platform-defense round, Liu Shanzhen sees Su Ye waiting in Xia’s line and flees. The other students mistakenly attribute his retreat to Xia, leaving Platform 42 unchallenged and giving Xia further reason to boast about his reputation 21 23.

While helping Su Ye confront Qi Beier, Xia saves a livestreamer from being taken hostage but suffers a dagger wound. His blood activates a Soul Capturing Pearl, exposing him to hostile souls. Su Ye destroys them before they overwhelm Xia; the purified energy Xia absorbs awakens his Mental Ability 54 55.

Xia had previously enlisted his uncle’s help in locating Qi Beier, then disguised himself and secretly followed Su Ye into the investigation 52. After recovering from the Soul Capturing Pearl incident, he visits Su Ye with his parents to express their gratitude. Zhang Baichuan specially recruits him into the Patrol Bureau because of his rare Mental Ability; Xia says he accepts because Su Ye is there. His family moves into the apartment below Su Ye’s, making them neighbors 58.

On an early monster hunt, Xia’s Mental Ability briefly immobilizes a Tier 1 Peak giant python, creating the opening Su Ye needs to stab it. His newly increased cultivation does not yet match his stamina, and Su Ye has to rescue him when Fourth Tier demonic beasts pursue the group. Zhang Baichuan subsequently arrives to protect them 65. Xia later scores 88 points in Cultural Theory and 178 in Martial Arts Basic Theory, totaling 266 points in the Gaokao theory examinations 74.

Xia travels to the Magic Capital with Su Ye, Mu Wanrou, and Xiao Qiyue and continues training with their university team 92 107. The Mysterious Pearl Fruit brought back by Su Ye and Xiao Qiyue helps the team reach Second Heaven, allowing them to register for Secret Realm exploration as first-year students 143. During their missions, Xia uses Mental Pierce to disrupt prey and helps collect Star Cores and other resources 109 145. When a Gale Wolf repeatedly attacks him and threatens his teammates, Su Ye arrives in time to kill it 167.

Xia later trains with increasingly strong medicinal liquid despite the pain. His ability evolves into Devour, and its first successful theft of cultivation propels him to Extraordinary Third Heaven 336 340 341. After reaching Fifth Heaven, he admits that his friends’ progress makes him feel like the weakest among them. He enters Feng Ying’s dangerous 011 Secret Realm to train and find resources; Su Ye helps him obtain the Crystal Fruit that brings him to Sixth Heaven 434 661 663.

During the intervening conflicts, Xia helps uncover a clue to the Blood Demon Cult by finding a Maple Red Hot Spring Villa keychain in Ling Yanran’s bouquet 252. He also confronts Su Mingyue over her treatment of Su Ye, prompting Su Ying to direct an oppressive force at him before Su Ye intervenes 269 270. On Qiong Island, Xiao Qiyue and Baili Busu protect Xia and the others from a Blood Demon Cult attacker suspected to be Fan Xiong 361.

After advancing to Fifth Heaven, Xia returns to Fangyuan City with Su Ye and loudly announces his homecoming. He insists on keeping the visit a surprise for their parents 439. His family subsequently moves to the Magic Capital alongside Su Ye’s and Zhang Xuan’s families, and the three households become neighbors in the Patrol Bureau’s Family Area 440.

In Feng Ying, Xia accompanies Su Ye through high-level Secret Realms and collects useful materials from the beasts Su Ye kills 654. Following the Crystal Fruit encounters in the 011 Secret Realm, Xia gains a vast reserve of Mental Power. Su Ye encourages him to challenge Tedd, whom Xia defeats with Mental Shock to win a Burial God Graveyard Entry 669.

Xia later accompanies Su Ye, Zhang Xuan, and Mu Wanrou into the Modu Secret Realm Army camp to retrieve Zhang Dayuan. He cites the penalties for obstructing Patrol Bureau work and records the confrontation when the soldiers refuse to cooperate 777.

Burial God Graveyard

After entering the Burial God Graveyard, Xia encounters repeated attacks from Monster Spirits. He kills six, including one comparable to a Seventh Heaven expert, before a powerful Pipi Shrimp forces him to flee. He draws Stelace into its path, but Stelace subsequently attacks him as well, leaving him wounded and threatened by both the Monster Spirit and the giant python’s venom 800 801. Su Ye rescues him and kills Stelace, while Zhang Xuan treats Xia’s poisoning 802.

The group discovers that Xia is unusually attractive to Monster Spirits, especially when bleeding. Xia volunteers to act as bait so that he can contribute to their expedition rather than remain a burden 802 809. His blood draws a large wave of Monster Spirits, whose destruction eventually produces an Ancient God-Demon Obsession. Xia repeatedly attacks its phantom with the One Leaf Cone while Su Ye restores his senses whenever its retaliatory Mental Waves confuse him 815.

Ofina attempts to seize the Obsession, but Su Ye intercepts her, allowing Xia to complete its absorption. He acquires a mental counterattack ability and tests it against Shen Mo, winning their initial exchange 816 817. He continues practicing it while the group advances deeper into the graveyard 817. Near the expedition’s end, Su Ye gives him one of the Enlightenment Leaves found at the graveyard’s center, and Xia begins cultivating with it 839.

Divine Realm and King Realm

In the Divine Realm, Xia reunites with Su Ye and joins the mission to gather resources from the Purple Lightning Crystal Mine while the Thunder Department’s main force distracts the demons. Before departing, he tells Mu Wanrou that he intends to earn merit and then ask her family for her hand 912.

Su Ye later gives Xia and the other companions Nirvana Divine Sources taken from defeated enemies, encouraging them to advance and fight alongside him. Xia responds by vowing to reach God Level within three months; this is a stated goal rather than a completed breakthrough at that time 969. He also joins the operation in Kimchi Country, where Su Ye assigns the companions to evacuate civilians near Jin Family Manor 987. Xia subsequently participates in the Human-Demon Deathmatch Arena and shares Zhang Xuan’s intelligence about Renard and his Destruction Law Embryo 1011.

Xia eventually reaches God Level and enters the King Realm 1235. Although he continues to joke and boast, his mother recognizes that his increasingly intense training is driven by the fear of being left too far behind Su Ye 1234. After his breakthrough, he seeks opportunities and resources to help Mu Wanrou, who has not yet reached God Level. Su Taibai’s delivery of Su Ye’s spoils from the Demon Domain resolves that search: Xia brings out vast quantities of spiritual materials, Divine Crystals, God Level Origins, and Nirvana Divine Sources for his companions and calls Mu Wanrou and Xiao Qiyue out of seclusion to examine them 1236.

Personality

Xia is exuberant and fond of calling himself “Great Master Xia,” particularly after a breakthrough. His boasting is usually met with teasing from his friends 23 341 434. Beneath it, he takes their growing strength seriously: he endures painful training because he wants to fight beside them rather than depend on them 336 661.

He is fiercely loyal to Su Ye. He defends him during confrontations with the Su Family and later speaks up when an official judges Su Ye by his recorded cultivation level alone 270 846.

After Su Ye saves him from the Soul Capturing Pearl, Xia declares that he will follow Su Ye even into mortal danger; Su Ye instead asks him simply to stay alive and well 58. Xia also trusts Su Ye’s character, refusing to believe he would severely harm an innocent person without cause 249.

His willingness to joke about relying on Su Ye coexists with a strong desire to become useful in his own right. He openly admits his insecurity about being the weakest of their friends, yet also cheerfully tells a hostile prodigy that he is merely jealous Xia has someone strong to rely on 661 838. In the Burial God Graveyard, he accepts the dangerous and embarrassing process of obtaining a God-Demon Obsession because its power could help the team 815.

Xia is a devoted fan of Xu Yinyin. He recruits friends to help obtain her limited-release album, anxiously seeks concert tickets, and enthusiastically shares banners and light signs with foreign concertgoers he assumes are fellow fans 477 548 578.

Mental Ability

Xia’s awakened Mental Ability gives him attacks that are difficult to see or guard against 55 107.

• Mental Pierce — Disrupts a target’s mind; Xia reaches mastery after using a Spirit Tempering Crystal 147 801.
• Mental Shock — Overwhelms and injures Tedd during a challenge without destroying his mind 669.
• Mental Power — A Ninth Tier Crystal Fruit leaves him with a large reserve; Lan Jiuyou stores its remaining energy within him for gradual release during cultivation 669.
• Mental interference — Even early in his training, he can briefly halt a demonic beast’s movement, creating an opening for an ally’s attack 65.
• Remote weapon control — Uses Mental Power to direct specialized silver needles and the One Leaf Cone 185 800.
• Mental perception — Can sweep his surroundings with Mental Power 815.

Devour

His evolved ability randomly takes something from a target and makes it appear in his hand. Xia believes it may eventually let him choose what to take, but that control is not established when he first demonstrates it 340.

• Early tests take fur, a nail, whiskers, and dirt from a Ground-Leaping Rat before unexpectedly taking part of its cultivation 341.
• It can affect more than physical objects: Xia temporarily devours a Bloodthirsty Seagull’s sight during a fight 342.
• Using it in that fight exhausts his Mental Power 342.
• Xia believes it could also take Star Power, mental energy, or portions of memory, and that its effectiveness should increase with his cultivation or his advantage over a target. These possibilities are his initial assessment, not all demonstrated effects 340.
• Against the Bloodthirsty Seagull, he specifically removes the sight of its right eye while Xiao Qiyue’s arrow pierces its left eye, temporarily leaving it unable to see 342.

Mental damage reflection

A power gained from a God-Demon Obsession automatically reflects some damage as a Mental Wave. It initially requires further practice and cultivation to become stronger 816 817.

• Automatic retaliation — Xia describes it as a passive skill that strikes whoever hurts him with a Mental Wave without requiring conscious activation 817.
• Deliberate strengthening — He can consciously increase the Mental Power backlash beyond its initial automatic effect 817.
• Initial limitations — Shortly after acquiring it, the automatic response produces only a slight Mental Power collision, insufficient to seriously injure an opponent. His version remains much weaker than the Obsession phantom’s soul-confusing retaliation 817.
• Combat application — The counterattack helps him win his first sparring exchange with Shen Mo, although the group recognizes that a prepared Shen Mo would not necessarily lose so quickly again 816 817.

Mobility and combat approach

Xia concentrates his training primarily on Mental Attacks and escape techniques. He uses the One Leaf Cone as a flying foothold, allowing him to accelerate rapidly and maneuver away from threats 800.

Zhang Xuan considers this specialization effective within a team but dangerous when Xia fights alone against an opponent who can counter him. He identifies the God-Demon Obsession’s retaliatory power as a way to improve Xia’s survival and help restrain enemies for his teammates 815.

Monster Spirit attraction

Monster Spirits in the Burial God Graveyard are unusually drawn to Xia, especially to his blood. His bleeding attracts more than a dozen in a short period, and the team later exploits this property to gather Monster Spirits and lure out a God-Demon Obsession 802 815.

The cause remains unexplained. Zhang Xuan initially considers Xia’s Mental Ability as a possible explanation, but notes that another Mental Ability user does not produce the same effect 815.

Equipment and Items

• One Leaf Cone — Used for a surprise attack against Stelace and to finish a sparring match against Shen Mo 801 816. It is Xia’s bonded weapon, a flattened, leaflike cone containing Star Sand and Sea Blue Crystal. Its construction makes it sharp and responsive to Mental Power, and Xia can ride it for rapid movement 800.
• Special-metal silver needles — A gift from Su Ye; suited to remote attacks controlled by Mental Power 185.
• Godhead Fragment — Given by Su Ye to keep close and sense regularly; Xia wears it in a necklace supplied by Mu Wanrou 340.
• Burial God Graveyard Entry — Won when Tedd concedes their challenge 669.
• Spirit Tempering Crystal — Redeemed with Merit Points to temper Mental Power and accelerate its cultivation; helps Xia bring Mental Pierce to mastery 147.
• Training medicinal liquid — Supplied by Zhang Xuan. Xia applies it during painful training and requests a higher concentration shortly before his ability evolves 336 340.
• Enlightenment Leaf — One of the leaves Su Ye distributes after exploring the center of the Burial God Graveyard; can assist comprehension of Laws without the side effects associated with Divine Cores 839.
• Nirvana Divine Source — Receives a share of the resources Su Ye takes from defeated enemies to support his advancement toward God Level 969.

Relationships

• Su Ye — Childhood friend and closest companion. Each repeatedly protects and supports the other; Xia calls their bond brotherhood for life 8 54 55 661 801. Xia joins the Patrol Bureau partly to remain with him and openly acknowledges him as his lifesaving benefactor 58. His determination to keep fighting beside Su Ye drives his harsh training even after reaching the King Realm 336 1234 1235.
• Mu Wanrou — Teammate whom Xia openly likes. He tries to impress her, worries for her safety, and later brings back resources intended to help her break through 341 802 1236. He announces his intention to ask her family for her hand after earning merit, drawing an embarrassed response rather than a confirmed engagement 912. By the time he reaches the King Realm, she is explicitly treated as his girlfriend, and he seeks resources to ease the pressure of her own God Level breakthrough 1236.
• Zhang Xuan — Friend and teammate who supplies Xia’s training liquid and later treats him after he is poisoned 340 802. Xia respects his intelligence and avoids choosing him as a sparring opponent, regarding him as the team’s strategist and fearing the inventive consequences of antagonizing him 816.
• Shen Mo — Teammate and sparring partner; Xia tests his newly acquired Mental Power ability against him 816.
• Zhou Ning — Xia’s mother, who recognizes that his intense training is driven by his desire to keep up with Su Ye 1234. She and her husband thank Su Ye for saving their son, and their household maintains close ties with Su Ye’s family 58 74 440.

• Xiao Qiyue — Friend and teammate who protects him in battle. Xia urgently seeks help when she and Su Ye fall into an unstable Secret Realm entrance, and later acknowledges the gulf between her talent and his own 129 342 361 661.
• Baili Busu — Initially regarded by Xia as an arrogant, spoiled heir. Xia comes to admire him after he risks his life and suffers severe injuries protecting the team from a Blood Demon Cult attacker 361.
