Chapter 47: Dormitory Beds Are Now Online
As it neared ten o'clock, the rain had become quite heavy.
Cheng Yun sat at the front desk, the young girl Yu Dian was also there, and Heroine Yin was resting on the sofa, waiting for work.
The Old Mage slowly walked downstairs from above, leaning on his cane, arriving precisely on time.
Cheng Yun glanced up at him, then at the pouring rain outside, and asked, "Are you still going out in this heavy rain, Mage?"
The Old Mage nodded and said, "I'll be gone for ten days this time. I'll be back at ten in the morning on the seventeenth."
Cheng Yun nodded in return, "Safe travels."
Heroine Yin also waved and called out, "Safe travels, Mage."
Yu Dian, however, unaware of the Old Mage's identity, looked worriedly outside and said, "But the rain is really heavy now, and the wind is strong too. An umbrella won't even help."
"It's alright," the Old Mage smiled and stopped, gazing at the wind and rain outside and the pedestrians scurrying away in it. "Just because it's raining in one place doesn't mean it's raining everywhere. There's always a place where you can shelter from the storm."
He then muttered a few obscure words. Yu Dian looked bewildered, but Cheng Yun understood.
Cheng Yun felt it was a proverb from the magical world--
"Only by facing the storm can one bravely move forward."
Then, the Old Mage nodded to Cheng Yun and stepped out the door, into the rain.
At the same time, he continued to murmur, this time with a change in rhythm, sounding quite pleasant: "When I've decided to go, no hardship can make me falter."
Cheng Yun blinked, a little confused.
So... was this actually a song? Were those two lines lyrics? Could the Old Mage sing?
This didn't fit his sage persona!
Yu Dian, on the other hand, reacted faster. She grabbed an umbrella from nearby and chased after him, catching up to the Old Mage at the entrance. "Since you insist on going out, please take an umbrella. This umbrella is provided free of charge by the hotel for guests. Just return it when you get back."
The Old Mage stopped under the eaves, looked down at the young girl Yu Dian holding out the umbrella to him with both hands, suddenly smiled, and took it. "Thank you, young lady. I wish you good luck."
The young girl nodded, her face flushed, "You're welcome."
"Then I'll see you in ten days," the Old Mage said as he opened the umbrella and walked out.
Yu Dian stood in place, watching his retreating figure. Even though it was the height of summer, the temperature had dropped nationwide these past two days, and she had put on a shirt over her t-shirt. Yet, the Old Mage was still wearing a short-sleeved shirt and shorts, making his tall, thin frame appear somewhat frail.
Suddenly, Yu Dian felt a pang of inexplicable sadness, finding the old man somewhat pitiable--
Since the Anju Hotel opened, he had been staying here for half a month. During this time, he had barely left the hotel, and no family had visited him. His meals were sometimes delivered by takeout, and other times, the kind owner would deliberately cook extra food for him, an act she had witnessed two or three times.
At his age, with white hair, regardless of his financial situation or how he lived, he was ultimately alone.
She returned to the front desk, and Cheng Yan came downstairs, taking her previous seat. Yu Dian could only sit on the sofa with Heroine Yin.
"Boss, do you know that old man?" she asked softly.
"Hmm? I suppose I know him."
Yu Dian was silent for a moment, about to speak again, when Cheng Yan cut her off, "How do you know him? Why has he been staying here? Is he here for tourism?"
"Because he was the first guest at the hotel and has been staying long-term," Cheng Yun said, pausing. "He's a very learned scholar who came here to investigate some things. He might be staying in Jinguan for a while, and will be staying with us during this period."
"Is that so?" Cheng Yan frowned slightly.
Yu Dian felt relieved-- she was an orphan herself and understood hardship. She didn't want anyone weak in the world to be lonely and helpless.
Outside, the heavy rain continued, splashing on the ground and creating a mist. The city streets seemed to be enveloped in a haze, and there were fewer pedestrians and vehicles. The wind howled, blowing in through the main door, causing the magazines on the front desk to flip pages and nearly blowing away the promotional flyers. It only got better when Heroine Yin closed the glass door.
Due to the heavy rain, deliveries had been slightly delayed these past few days, but as soon as the rain lessened, the delivery services diligently resumed. At the same time, the hotel business had also decreased significantly in recent days, giving Cheng Yun a chance to focus on renovations.
The day after the Old Mage left, the four dormitory rooms were completed. However, because the newly purchased bed frames and bedding had a slight odor, Cheng Yun didn't rush to list them for sale or have Heroine Yin and Yu Dian move in. Instead, he opened all the windows and hung the bedding on the bunk beds, taking advantage of the strong winds these past few days to air them out and dissipate the smell.
On the third day after the Old Mage left, the rain stopped.
It was on this day, when the sun came out, that Cheng Yun officially hung the price tags for the four dormitory beds at the hotel's front desk and also listed them on the online platform.
There were two rooms for men and two for women, one with four beds and one with eight beds.
When Cheng Yun asked Heroine Yin and Yu Dian where they wanted to stay, they both unhesitatingly chose the eight-bed female dormitory as their future staff quarters.
Yu Dian was too embarrassed to choose the four-bed room and was consciously trying to reduce the burden on the boss. Heroine Yin felt that she was just a general helper, and it was already very kind of the boss not to make her sleep in the woodshed. Since she had such comfortable rooms to live in, of course, she would choose the cheaper one!
"Let's tidy up your things first and then go upstairs to pick a bed," Cheng Yun said, leading the way upstairs. "Yu Dian, you can move all your luggage up. There's a small locker in the eight-bed room, which will be more convenient for you."
"Oh," Yu Dian nodded.
Heroine Yin also followed Cheng Yun upstairs.
When they had tidied their belongings and pushed open the door to the dormitory room, they both let out a soft gasp.
"Wow!"
"It's so beautiful!" Yu Dian said softly.
"Mmm-hmm," Heroine Yin nodded in agreement.
They had helped with the renovation of these rooms before, but at that time, the dormitory rooms were still very simple, with only the most basic furniture. Although Cheng Yun and Cheng Yan had asked for their opinions later, they hadn't been directly involved in the decoration. Seeing it now, they realized how beautiful this room was!
It was no less impressive than some popular online hostels!
Yu Dian only felt that although the room wasn't large and spacious with a big bed, it was decorated beautifully and cozily. Its appearance completely surpassed the other rooms with big beds, and even the themed rooms.
She had never seen such a exquisitely decorated youth hostel before. This first encounter undoubtedly broadened her horizons!
Heroine Yin had already shown her love for this beautiful room with her actions. She threw down her clothes and toiletries and walked into the room. First, she looked up at the landscape photos and modern paintings hanging on the wall. Then, she curiously peeked at the small vase on the shelf, touched the few plastic flowers inside, and ignored the neatly arranged books.
After looking around for a long time, she pushed open the floor-to-ceiling window and ran onto the balcony, plopping down onto the hanging chair. She grinned, the chair swaying back and forth, while she jiggled her legs.
At this moment, Yu Dian had already made the bed and asked her, "Sister Yin Dan, where will you sleep? I'll make your bed first."
"I'll do it myself!" Heroine Yin jumped down from the hanging chair. After pacing around the room, she stared at the upper bunk of the bed near the floor-to-ceiling window and said, "I'll sleep there!"
"Okay." Yu Dian nodded and walked towards her with the bedsheet, duvet cover, and pillowcase.
Clearly, Yu Dian ended up making the bed for her.
Returning to the front desk, Cheng Yun saw the background wall at first glance and suddenly felt it was a bit plain, which made him troubled.
After just finishing the renovation of the youth hostel dorms, it felt like completing an extremely satisfying piece of work. Cheng Yun was naturally eager to show it off and, at the same time, achieve good business results. However, if he didn't put up pictures of it on the wall, passing guests wouldn't know at all that Anju Hotel had such a room.
Cheng Yun pondered for a moment and decided to go home after his physical training in the evening to bring his camera. He would take pictures of each room type and put them on the wall behind the front desk, along with their prices.
At the same time, the dorms on the website platform also needed a set of high-class artistic photos.
Thinking this, he grinned and looked at Yu Dian beside him.
"Um, Sister Yu Dian."
"Huh?" Yu Dian was flustered. She was startled by his address and stared at him blankly, saying softly and timidly, "Boss Cheng, please just say what you need."
"Then I won't be polite!" Cheng Yun rubbed his hands and said, "The hotel just launched the youth hostel dorms, but they haven't been advertised yet. I think we should send out a message on WeChat and our official account to promote them to guests, so..."
"No problem." Although Yu Dian's demeanor was timid, she agreed readily. "Tell me how you want it written. If it's not too long, I can finish it before tonight."
"No rush, no rush, take your time," Cheng Yun waved his hand. "I still need to go back and get my camera to take pictures."
"Oh."
Most of the hotel's orders now came from major online platforms. Therefore, the hotel's policy was: whenever a guest placed an order, the person on duty at the time would add the guest as a friend using the hotel's official WeChat account and their mobile number. If the verification was approved, they would send a friendly reminder to the guest and then provide more convenient services directly through WeChat.
Following the hotel's official account offered a discount coupon, ranging from ten to thirty yuan, depending on the room type.
As a result, the official WeChat account had added quite a few friends, and the official account also had many followers.
Cheng Yun also planned to make a promotional poster, a very simple one, just a piece of colorful plastic paper less than half a square meter with a stand, to place at the entrance.
His Photoshop skills were good, but he knew another person whose design skills were even better—
Cheng Yan.
That girl would definitely roll her eyes at him, then diligently make the promotional poster for him.
Thinking this, Cheng Yun couldn't help but grin.
This smile made Yu Dian beside him feel somewhat bewildered.
