Background / History

After his parents died in a car accident, Cheng Yun assumed responsibility for their unfinished hotel project and for his younger sister, Cheng Yan. The family received roughly 3 million yuan in compensation and insurance payouts; Cheng Yun chose to open the hotel before college entrance-exam results were released, anticipating demand from students and families visiting Yizhou University. He also wrote a letter forgiving the at-fault driver despite his grief. 1

The hotel’s warehouse became the site of a mysterious spacetime node. Cheng Yun discovered its boundless dark interior and a luminous object, briefly considered reporting it to the authorities, and later learned from Kun Zhen that the node had fused with him. Because the node possessed consciousness through Cheng Yun, Kun Zhen could not leave without his cooperation. 2 3

He develops the Anju Hotel while managing its otherworldly residents. He hires Yu Dian as a front-desk cashier, brings Yin Dan into the hotel’s work and living arrangements, and renovates dormitory rooms with the group. 12 22 40
