Background / History
Yin Dan was born in a small village in Biyu County, western Hengzhou, Songshi Kingdom. Her exceptional martial talent caused her parents to favor her, teaching her martial arts and literacy rather than selling her into servitude. As a child, she was unusually strong, physically robust, and habitually fought several children at once. 17 25
When she was fourteen, imperial troops purging Hengzhou attacked her village. Her parents hid her in a haystack before confronting the soldiers; Yin witnessed the destruction of the village and her parents' deaths. The purge was part of a massive military campaign that destroyed Flying Fish Ravine and killed its martial artists. 25
A man she called “Uncle” later raised and trained her, hoping to benefit from her rare talent. Motivated by revenge, Yin devoted herself to martial arts and entered the jianghu, but eventually realized she could never identify the individual soldiers responsible for her parents' deaths. 23 25
Yin later sought fame by challenging Ji Qinglin, a renowned but retired martial artist. She narrowly defeated him after his stamina failed, but his death and his grieving family left her questioning the pursuit of fame, violence, and the values of the martial world. 30
After obtaining the Void Arrow, Yin fought her way through multiple martial artists, shattered the void, and expected to ascend to the Upper Realm. Instead, she arrived at Cheng Yun's spacetime transit station. Her Void Arrow lacked sufficient energy to continue, leaving her stranded in Cheng Yun's world for an estimated minimum of half a year. 16 17 24
She accepted work as a cleaner at Anju Hotel to repay Cheng Yun for food, clothing, and accommodation. As she adapted to modern life, she also agreed to teach Cheng Yun martial arts. 19 22 24
Appearance
Yin is a petite woman standing under 1.6 meters tall, though her physical strength is vastly disproportionate to her size. Her severe expression and scarred face initially make others perceive her as intimidating. 16 17 22
- Sharp eyebrows and phoenix eyes, often carrying an aggressive or threatening gaze. 16 22
- Long, narrow scar on her left cheek, received while challenging an older martial artist. 23 37
- Pale complexion and straight, shapely legs. 19 34
- Usually keeps herself fully covered; initially feels embarrassed by modern short-sleeved shirts and denim shorts. 19
- Often wears sneakers in the modern world, which she values intensely because of their cost. 35
Personality
Yin is direct, proud, and instinctively combative. Upon arriving at the transit station, she reacts to uncertainty with hostility and repeatedly tries to reclaim her Void Arrow by force; after recognizing Cheng Yun and the Old Mage's control over the station, she becomes cooperative. 16 17
Despite her fearsome demeanor, Yin is inexperienced with modern society and often displays sincere curiosity. She asks persistent questions about cars, bicycles, stores, food, nightlife, traffic, films, and social customs. 18 24 34
She strongly values debts, promises, and martial-world honor. She carefully calculates what she owes Cheng Yun, seeks work to repay him, and agrees to teach him martial arts after calling him her friend. 19 22 24
Yin has a forceful sense of justice but must learn modern legal boundaries. She instinctively proposes using weapons against suspects and rude strangers, but can be persuaded to let police or social rules handle conflicts—especially when reminded that she may have to pay compensation. 35 49
Abilities & Skills
Martial Arts Mastery
Yin describes her martial arts as having reached “perfection” before she used the Void Arrow. Her world has no documented inner-energy system; its martial arts rely on exceptional physical conditioning and combat technique. 16 27
- Defeated the famous martial artist Ji Qinglin in a saber duel, though she suffered a facial wound and only won narrowly. 30
- Is capable of rapidly identifying and exploiting an opponent's weak points. 28
- Can teach practical standing-combat methods, including the “Nameless Divine Fist” taught to her by her parents. 28
- Has knowledge of the Southern School Flying Fish Saber Technique. 20
- Her combat experience includes bodyguard work, challenges, and repeated clashes with martial artists. 30
Superhuman Physical Ability
Yin possesses strength, speed, endurance, and jumping ability far beyond ordinary humans in Cheng Yun's world. 16 27
- Leapt backward at least five meters in a single movement inside the node space. 16
- Can run fast enough to leave afterimages and claims she can catch a fleeing person within a few breaths. 16 35
- Jumped down from a five-meter overpass without injury. 37
- Subdued Andy, a much larger suspect trained in boxing, and left him unconscious. 37
- Can handle furniture components that would ordinarily require two strong adults to lift. 40
- Her strength is described as sufficient to carry a burden comparable to “hundreds of strong men.” 40
Observation and Memory
Yin notices details others overlook, particularly when assessing potential threats. 34
- Recalled scratches on a suspect's neck and elbows during a police inquiry. 34
- Correctly remembered the suspect's direction after he left Anju Hotel. 34
- Keeps written notes when evaluating Cheng Yun's physical condition, despite limited schooling and poor handwriting. 27
Martial-Arts Instruction
Yin becomes Cheng Yun's instructor after assessing the major physical gap between Earth humans and people from her world. 27
- Designs training around Cheng Yun's limitations rather than expecting him to meet Songshi World standards. 27 35
- Prioritizes combat technique at first because it provides faster gains for a beginner than body conditioning alone. 27
- Later combines technique practice with endurance and body-tempering exercises. 28 31 35
- Acts as a stern trainer, pushing Cheng Yun through long-distance running and demanding exercises. 31 32
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Void Arrow / Void Token — A spacetime artifact Yin used to shatter the void; it remains in the transit station to recharge before she can continue traveling. 16 17 24
- Wild Goose Feather Blade / Yanling long saber — Her battle-worn saber, bought at significant cost before her challenge against Ji Qinglin. 16 17 30
- Throwing knife — A finger-length knife she carries despite Cheng Yun's instruction not to bring weapons outside. 35
- Small notebook and pen — Used to record Cheng Yun's fitness-test results and training observations. 27
Relationships
- Cheng Yun — Station master, employer, guide to modern life, and martial-arts student. Yin initially distrusts him but later calls him a friend and relies on his care while stranded. 16 18 22 24
- Old Mage — Translator and respected elder whom Yin addresses as “Teacher” or “Mage.” He resolves her language barrier and helps establish her identity in the modern world. 16 17 28 44
- Cheng Yan — Cheng Yun's sister and Yin's hotel colleague. Cheng Yan is initially wary of Yin but later works alongside her at Anju Hotel. 22 26 40
- Yu Dian — Fellow Anju Hotel employee. Yu Dian is initially intimidated by Yin's scar and imposing appearance, while Yin attempts to appear harmless around her. 22
- Ji Qinglin — Renowned martial artist defeated by Yin in a duel. His death becomes a major source of Yin's disillusionment with martial-world fame. 30
- Zhou Jiaxing — Police officer who takes Yin's observations seriously during an investigation and later witnesses her role in apprehending Andy. 34 37
- Andy — Fleeing suspect whom Yin intercepts and defeats after he attacks her. 37
