Shane had barely returned to the New Horizon Alliance's base when Injustice Batman and his son Damian surrounded him.
He knew what the father and son wanted to ask, but considering that Deadwing now had the goddess of death backing him, Shane could only say vaguely that Nightwing was doing all right, just existing in another form.
"He never blamed you in the first place, Damian... And he's also very glad to see the two of you reconcile."
Damian was visibly overjoyed, and even Injustice Batman let out a huge sigh of relief.
Neither insisted on getting to the bottom of it. They simply thanked Shane again in a rather understated way.
And in that very short span of time, Shane noticed that a pair of black cuffs had somehow appeared on Damian's wrists.
They weren't the silver bracelets the police used. They looked more like little black boxes, with faint blue lights blinking on them.
They had the feel of something out of a sci-fi movie, a custom-made device designed to suppress people with superpowers.
"Oh."
Shane glanced at the impassive Injustice Batman.
Was this guy really that quick to put justice before family?
The two had been hugging just a moment ago-though it seemed Damian had been the one to throw his arms around his father. Injustice Batman had only trembled a little, and Damian had been the only one crying. The kid had always been haunted by accidentally "killing" Nightwing back then, yet he had still stubbornly chosen Superman's side, as if his brain had short-circuited.
Now, perhaps because Shane had beaten some sense into him, he had let his emotions erupt and then voluntarily chosen to serve time in prison.
Shane called it voluntary because he felt that these fancy-looking cuffs couldn't possibly hold any member
