Meng Yuyan is the illegitimate daughter of Dragon Duke Meng Shu. Her mother died early and insisted that Yuyan retain the Meng surname, despite the humiliation and unhappiness Yuyan associates with it. She is estranged from Meng Shu and initially describes him as only “sort of” her father. 88 89 94

Her Firebird Spear originated from her maternal lineage: it is a mutation combining her grandfather's Firebird Martial Soul with her grandmother's Iron Spear Martial Soul.
