In the end, the Third Hokage decided to first dispatch a portion of the village's shinobi who were preparing to go to war to the Land of Bears. At the very least, they had to ensure the Land of Bears was not completely occupied by Kirigakure.
To put it plainly, Kirigakure was only joining in for the excitement in this Shinobi World War. The key still lay in the outcome of the battles among the other four villages.
As long as they made sure the Land of Bears did not lose its territory and that the Land of Fire would not be attacked directly by the Kirigakure Shinobi, that would be enough.
With a single order from the Third Hokage, several hundred shinobi set out as the vanguard, rushing to the Land of Bears to provide support.
A month later, Konoha would send even more shinobi to reinforce the Land of Bears.
As a student, Uchiha Yuan knew nothing about the village's movements. He had no channels through which to obtain intelligence at all.
The only thing Uchiha Yuan sensed was off was that prices in the village had risen quite a bit, especially for war supplies.
Uchiha Yuan was worried that if prices kept rising like this, by the time his Pension was issued, there would probably be nothing left after he bought supplies.
Fortunately, the Pension reached Uchiha Yuan's hands two days later.
Just as he had expected before, the clan had not secured too much money for him.
Previously, Uchiha Hironobu had said the Pension would be 2,000,000 Ryo. After the Pension was paid out, what he actually received was 2,100,000 Ryo. They had only managed to secure an extra 100,000 Ryo.
After Uchiha Yuan got the money, he spent 600,000 Ryo buying a Sealing Scroll.
Then he spent nearly 1,000,000 Ryo purchasing all kinds of war resources.
After all that back and forth, only a little over 400,000 Ryo of his Pension remained.
"No matter which world it is, money never lasts!" Uchiha Yuan sighed as he looked at the money in his wallet.
Over the next few days, Uchiha Yuan took some time to familiarize himself with this batch of supplies he had, to avoid the awkward situation of not knowing how to use something once he got onto the battlefield.
Before he knew it, a week had passed.
Today was the day Uchiha Yuan and Uchiha Shisui had agreed to meet.
So after school that day, Uchiha Yuan did not go to the riverbank to train. Instead, he went straight back to the Uchiha Clan, then jogged to the training ground he had arranged to meet Shisui at.
Shisui had arrived even earlier than Uchiha Yuan. When he saw Uchiha Yuan, he quickly waved and called out, "Elder Yuan, I'm here!"
When Uchiha Yuan saw Shisui, he teleported and leaped right in front of him.
"Body Flicker Technique! Uchiha Yuan, you actually really learned the Body Flicker Technique!" Beside Shisui, a spiky-haired boy wearing goggles could not help exclaiming.
"Obito? Why are you here?" Uchiha Yuan froze for a moment, then asked.
"Elder Yuan, Elder Obito and I are neighbors. When he heard that you were going to teach me the Body Flicker Technique, he insisted on coming along to take a look, saying he was afraid I'd get tricked by you," Shisui explained with a helpless expression.
"When did you learn the Body Flicker Technique, Uchiha Yuan?" Obito asked.
"I only learned it recently."
"But when you sparred with Hyuga Asana before—"
"I didn't know it then."
Obito fell silent at that. It had not been long at all since Uchiha Yuan had sparred with Hyuga Asana, yet Uchiha Yuan had actually learned the Body Flicker Technique already. This progress was way too fast!
Uchiha Yuan was too lazy to waste words with Obito. Setting aside the current Obito, he had not the slightest good impression of the future Obito.
Everyone could see how good Minato Namikaze was to Obito, yet Obito had done something like killing his own teacher. Calling Obito an ungrateful wretch felt like an insult to the phrase itself.
Just because of that alone, Uchiha Yuan did not want to have too much contact with Obito.
"Shisui, how are your Tree Climbing and Water Walking practices going?" Uchiha Yuan asked.
"I've completely mastered both techniques."
"Is that so? There are trees right over there. Come show me!" Uchiha Yuan said, pointing at the great tree outside the training ground.
Shisui nodded and ran over. Uchiha Yuan followed him out of the training ground, and after hesitating for a moment, Obito chased after them too.
After the three of them arrived in the woods, Shisui wrapped Chakra around both feet and walked step by step from the tree trunk up into the crown.
Uchiha Yuan could tell that Shisui walked very steadily, without the slightest stumble, showing that his mastery of this technique was likely quite good.
In other words, Shisui's Chakra control was already very good, enough for him to learn the Body Flicker Technique.
"Not bad. Shisui, your Chakra control has already met the standard. Next, I'm going to test your reaction speed. Let's go back to the training ground!"
"Wait! Uchiha Yuan, aren't you supposed to be teaching Shisui the Body Flicker Technique? Why are you messing around with all these random things?" Obito stopped the two of them and asked.
"Elder Obito, Elder Yuan is teaching me the Body Flicker Technique!" Shisui replied.
"That's right. These aren't random things. The two prerequisites for learning the Body Flicker Technique are Chakra control and neural reaction speed." After saying that, Uchiha Yuan returned to the training ground together with Shisui.
After hearing Uchiha Yuan's words, Obito recalled Shisui's Tree Climbing movements just now, then muttered to himself, "What's so great about that? Isn't it just climbing a tree? I can do it too!"
Then Obito also wrapped Chakra around his own feet and walked toward the tree trunk.
As a result, unsurprisingly, he fell off the trunk.
Obito refused to accept it and tried many more times, but without question, he failed every time.
Back at the training ground, Uchiha Yuan had already prepared some stones. He had Shisui stand at a relatively far distance, then threw the stones at Shisui to see how many of the rocks Uchiha Yuan threw Shisui could dodge with his body's reaction speed alone.
The test officially began. At first, Uchiha Yuan did not throw the stones with much force, and the stones were not fast either, so Shisui successfully avoided them all.
Seeing this, Uchiha Yuan gradually increased his strength, and the speed of the stones rose along with it. Shisui had not activated his Sharingan at this point, so there was no boost to his dynamic vision. Facing these stones, he was only dodging by relying on his body's instincts.
"Whoosh~"
When Obito, covered in dirt and dust, returned to the training ground, an afterimage flashed past his eyes.
Obito instinctively looked in the direction of the afterimage, and then he saw Shisui dodge the attack from that afterimage with only the slightest turn of his body.
Immediately afterward, several more afterimages came rushing in, and Shisui avoided them all.
Obito was utterly stunned by the sight. He could not even see attacks at that speed clearly, let alone dodge them. How had Shisui done it?
Uchiha Yuan was also somewhat shocked inside. Shisui had not activated his Sharingan, so logically speaking, he should not have been able to clearly see the trajectories of those stones and dodge them in advance, yet he had done exactly that.
He perfectly dodged every stone that flew at him. With reflexes like that, even Uchiha Yuan had to admit he fell short.
No wonder this little guy will one day make a name for himself as Body Flicker Shisui. With reflexes like these, the Body Flicker Technique could be said to be tailor-made for him, Uchiha Yuan thought.
