History

The Uchiha are descendants of Indra Ōtsutsuki, Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki's elder son. Indra's descendants preserved his chakra and became the Uchiha Clan, inheriting the Sharingan and powerful spiritual energy. Alongside the Senju, they produced Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju, who founded Konoha. 225 246

By the Third Great Ninja War, the clan had suffered severe losses: more than half of its ninja were casualties, leaving it unable to staff the Police Force without outside recruits. The loss of Sharingan users further weakened the clan's political and military position. 112 135

The wartime clan was divided between hawks and doves, while class distinctions also existed between ninja and non-ninja members, and between Sharingan users and those unable to awaken the dōjutsu. Uchiha Yuan identified these divisions and the Police Force's poor public reputation as central threats to the clan's survival. 40

After Obito's Sharingan was transplanted into Kakashi, the clan's leadership split over whether to recover the eye, honor Obito's gift, or seek compensation from Konoha. The dispute brought its internal factionalism into the open. 109 112 114

Sharingan

The Sharingan is the Uchiha Clan's Kekkei Genkai and its most closely guarded inheritance. Its five recognized forms are the One-Tomoe, Two-Tomoe, Three-Tomoe, Mangekyō, and Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan; the Rinnegan is treated separately rather than as a Sharingan form. 5
