White. As far as the eye could see, everything was white.

White snowflakes drifted down from the sky, and the pine trees were completely covered in snow.

Amid the howling wind, two prisoners in black-and-white striped uniforms shivered as they stared intently at a small mound of snow not far away.

"B-Big Bro, that guy hasn't moved in a whole day. H-He must've frozen to death, right?" asked a burly man, three meters tall and covered in rolls of fat, trembling as he spoke.

"N-Not necessarily. That guy's a freak. For the past half month, he's been walking around in nothing but a thin shirt, like he isn't cold at all. We should wait a little longer," said the shorter man standing in front of him.

"H-How much longer do we have to wait? I-If we wait any longer, we'll freeze to death."

"I-I know. But if we go over there now, we'll die anyway. D-Don't you see those Military Wolves still guarding that mound?"

The boy beneath the snow heard their conversation, but he had no intention of getting up to prove he was still alive.

The boy's name was Mosen, and at that moment he was deeply confused.

In Mosen's memories, he should have been eating hot pot with his friends.

Halfway through the meal, Mosen had felt a little hot and told his friends, "It's so hot! I wish we had a huge block of ice to cool things down right now."

The next second, an explosion rang out. Mosen's vision went black, and then, for some inexplicable reason, he found himself here.

Mosen looked around and realized that he was in a world of ice and snow.

Everything as far as he could see was covered in ice and snow, and his body had shrunk as well.

Mosen used to be tall and straight-backed. He loved basketball and working out, and his intense training had made him extremely strong. When he clenched his fist and flexed his biceps, they looked ready to burst through his clothes.

But this body looked about fourteen or fifteen years old. It was quite tall, around 1.8 meters, but otherwise rather weak. There wasn't much muscle on it; he was painfully thin and clearly malnourished.

Like any ordinary young man, Mosen had enjoyed surfing the internet and was familiar with the idea of transmigration. He had even often fantasized about it.

But when Mosen actually experienced transmigration, he found himself unable to accept it at first.

In this world, Mosen's name was Carlos Mosen. He was fifteen years old and had been born on a chaotic little island called Sphinx in the Grand Line.

When Mosen was two, he had fled that lawless island with his parents and moved to the Sabaody Archipelago, near Marine Headquarters, where things were relatively peaceful.

But when Mosen was nine—more than six years ago—his parents were killed by a Celestial Dragon's bodyguards for offending a Celestial Dragon.

The Celestial Dragon had even wanted to take Mosen away as a slave, as punishment for his parents' disrespect.

Fortunately, Monkey D. Dragon happened to pass by and saved Mosen, sparing him that fate.

Monkey D. Dragon took Mosen to Water 7, left him in the care of a Navy Vice Admiral at the branch, and then departed.

Just like that, Mosen naturally became a Marine.

For the next five years, Mosen worked hard to train himself. He had quite a talent, and with Dragon's connection, he earned the Navy Vice Admiral's favor and received special instruction in the Six Powers.

According to the vice admiral, not everyone in the Marines could use the Six Powers. Some officers knew them, but most had only mastered a few. As far as he knew, only the legendary CP Organization and the disciples of Zephyr, an Admiral at Marine Headquarters, had learned all six.

This vice admiral was one of Zephyr's disciples.

After grasping the Six Powers, Mosen gradually figured out how to use Life Return.

It was worth mentioning that after learning Life Return, Mosen had become especially fond of Iron Body.

With Life Return enhancing it, Iron Body could be considered the most versatile of the Six Powers. It was useful for both offense and defense, and at a certain level of mastery, one could even learn Armament Haki.

Mosen's exceptional talent had earned the vice admiral's admiration, so he recommended him to Marine Headquarters, hoping he would have better prospects there—ideally, that he would become one of Zephyr's disciples.

What the vice admiral hadn't expected was that Mosen wouldn't become Zephyr's disciple. Instead, because of his excellent physical condition and his mastery of Life Return, he was chosen to participate in Vegapunk's Lineage Factor experiment.

When Mosen learned from the higher-ups that the experiment might grant him the powers of a Devil Fruit if it succeeded, he agreed without hesitation.

Even when the Marines told him there was a high chance he would die if the experiment failed, Mosen didn't hesitate at all. Back then, all he wanted was to grow stronger and avenge his parents.

Fifty people participated in this Lineage Factor experiment, which involved modifying their Lineage Factors.

Vegapunk divided the fifty people into seven groups, with seven people in each group. The extra person was assigned to the seventh group, and each group received a different Lineage Factor ability.

The experiment itself was simple. Vegapunk first modified all the participants' hearts, making them mechanical, and injected the Lineage Factors into them. Then they simply had to see whether the participants could adapt to the Lineage Factors.

There were seven abilities contained in these Lineage Factors: invisibility, lightning, giant strength, fire, ice, light, and magma.

The Lineage Factors for invisibility, lightning, giant strength, and fire had been provided by Vegapunk's former colleague, Vinsmoke Judge. All the members of MADS had studied them.

Queen, one of the All-Stars of the Beasts Pirates in the original story and a fellow MADS member, had modified himself and successfully mastered these four Lineage Factor abilities.

As for ice, light, and magma, those were Lineage Factors Vegapunk had requested from the Marines. Their sources were naturally the future Three Admirals Aokiji, Kizaru, and Akainu.

When Mosen underwent the Lineage Factor modification, he was in the fifth group, which received the Frozen Lineage Factor.

Just one minute after the Lineage Factor inside his Mechanized Heart was activated, the other six people were all frozen into ice statues. Mosen desperately used Life Return to force his body to adapt to the Lineage Factor.

Unfortunately, no matter how hard Mosen tried, his body couldn't adapt to the Lineage Factor modification. He barely managed to survive, but didn't gain the power of ice.

Mosen's body had also suffered serious damage, and it would take a long time to recover. The only benefit he had gained was probably that he no longer felt the cold.

As for the other groups, everyone in the invisibility group vanished from the world. Everyone in the lightning group turned into charcoal. The bodies of those in the giant strength group kept swelling until they burst apart. The fire group met much the same fate as the lightning group, while those in the magma group were completely melted by the heat.

Only the light group survived intact, all seven of them. But like Mosen, they didn't gain any special abilities.

The experiment had been a failure.

Vegapunk returned the eight survivors to Marine Headquarters. At the time, the Marines were busy executing Pirate King Roger, so the eight of them were all taken to Loguetown.

There, Mosen once again encountered his savior, Monkey D. Dragon.

After witnessing Roger's execution with his own eyes and seeing him usher in a new era with his life, Dragon finally became firm in his conviction. He would overthrow the Celestial Dragons and bring light to the world.
