Background / History

Tang Shisan first confronts Wang Xian at the Sword Sect’s competition, accusing him of ruining the event. She challenges him to a three-move duel and stakes spirit stones on the outcome. Despite wielding a spirit sword against his wooden sword, she loses to a single strike 31 32.

They later reunite in Sand City on the Heavenly Road. Alarmed to find Wang Xian using an iron crutch and apparently reduced to the Qi Gathering Realm, she urges him to stay with her rather than alone at the Daoist temple outside town 333. When demonic beasts attack her on the mountain path, Wang Xian intervenes 335. She subsequently seeks his help for the gravely injured Meng Xiaolou; Wang Xian gives her medicinal soup that saves him, and she and Ximen Tinghua also benefit from it 337 637.

After her breakthrough, Tang Shisan defends her companions against black-clad attackers. She defeats several with her sword and hidden weapons, but Wen Hui Yuan wounds her before Wang Xian saves her with an arrow. Wang Xian then warns her that their enemies might target her group to reach him and insists they publicly distance themselves from him 341 342 343 348.

Appearance

At about fifteen on her first appearance, Tang Shisan wears a vivid red robe and carries a sword sheath at her waist 31.

Personality

Tang Shisan is outspoken and quick to provoke: she challenges Wang Xian before a crowd, bargains over the duel, and jokes with him even after they become friends 31 333. She is protective of her companions, risking herself against Heavenly Road attackers for Meng Xiaolou and Ximen Tinghua 342 343. Her concern can give way to hesitation in a lethal fight—a failing Wang Xian calls out after she is wounded 343.
