Background

Yan Hui was the young master of the Yan Clan in Sunset City. Under the instruction of an unnamed old master, he cultivated for a century and gained a reputation throughout the Demon Realm as an educated, refined prodigy. His master named him Yan Hui in the hope that he would return home as a graceful gentleman after traveling far from his “nest.” 1171

Despite this reputation, Yan Hui sought greater power and opportunities. His master regarded the opening of a secret realm as a test of Yan Hui’s character, believing that the young man still retained a ferocious nature beneath his cultivated manner. 1171

Before the secret realm, Yan Hui presented himself as courteous, learned, and confident. He was proud of his talent and eager to prove himself worthy of his master’s expectations, though his ambition and desire for strength ran deeper than his refined exterior suggested. 1171

Yan Hui entered the secret realm seeking ancient divine medicine and an opportunity to strengthen his bloodline. He saved Ye Honglian from the Demon Bird and gave her its inner core, establishing himself as the dominant young master in her eyes. 1171 1174

He then pursued Youli’s Earth Core Jade Mother, fought her over the treasure, and attempted to devour her. During the conflict, he also ambushed Wang Xian while Wang Xian was entangled with Youli. 1179 1180 1185

After devouring half of Youli’s demon core, Yan Hui attempted to break through. Wang Xian shot him with a bamboo arrow in retaliation for Youli and for their own conflict, disrupting Yan Hui’s breakthrough and leaving him presumed dead. 1189 1190

Yan Hui escaped the secret realm with his spirit sea collapsed and his cultivation crippled. Wandering alone, he became bitter and obsessed with an iron shard that promised the strength to prevent him from remaining a “straw dog.” 1272 1273
