Background

Du Yulin is the surviving member and later matriarch of the Du Family. A decade before her return to Sunset City, the Wind and Rain Tower massacred her father, brother, sister-in-law, and three-year-old nephew after its master pursued a rumored hidden treasure of the Du Family. 1299 1396

She spent ten years in remote Azure Dragon Town, operating the Red Dust Tavern while awaiting the chance to confront those responsible. 1303 1337 Wind and Rain Tower continued hunting her for her spirit sword, Frostfall, ultimately bringing its conflict with her to Azure Dragon Town. 1312 1313

Liu Yun, the Du Family’s steward, was later revealed as the person who betrayed the family by selling information on Frostfall to Wind and Rain Tower. 1396

Appearance

Du Yulin is usually seen behind the Red Dust Tavern’s counter, embroidering with a tiny needle while carrying a sheathed longsword. Her composure is notable even under oppressive heat or immediate danger. 1299 1310

Her resolve is rooted in grief and vengeance, but she is not indifferent to others. She tends to Wang Xian after he is injured, takes him shopping for replacement clothes, and later fights partly to protect him from Wind and Rain Tower. 1303 1325

After relying on Wang Xian during the assault on Azure Dragon Town, she acknowledges her own limitations rather than mistaking temporary strength for true invincibility. 1317 1318

Red Dust Tavern

Du Yulin runs the Red Dust Tavern in Azure Dragon Town, where Wang Xian becomes her waiter. When local attackers threaten the tavern, she reveals herself as a skilled needle-user and swordswoman rather than an ordinary innkeeper. 1299 1303 1310

Wind and Rain Tower Assault

Wind and Rain Tower sends Black and White Impermanence, followed by several tower masters and a large number of assassins, to seize Frostfall and capture Du Yulin. She initially struggles against White Impermanence’s finger techniques, but Wang Xian supports her from the shadows. 1312 1313

Cornered, Du Yulin summons the Azure Luan and turns the siege into a massacre. She kills Liu Rumeng and He Qiufeng, defeats Black and White Impermanence, and confronts Ye Wuxue. 1314 1315 1316

Fall of Wind and Rain Tower

Du Yulin returns to Sunset City and confronts Liu Yun over the Du Family’s betrayal. When Liu Yun attempts to kill her for Frostfall, Wang Xian intervenes and annihilates the traitorous steward. 1392 1395 1396

Du Yulin and Little Fly leave the Demon Realm for Sword City, where they meet Wang Xian’s friends Tang Tian and Li Yu. Du Yulin recounts that Wang Xian destroyed Wind and Rain Tower to avenge her family. 1453
