A theory Karl reads proposes that the earliest gods arose from worshipped tribal totems and ancestral spirits. As worship spread, these beings gained power and divine authority; Karl regards the account as plausible, not established history 393.

In the other world, deities built interconnected Divine Domains in the Astral Plane and maintained humanity as a source of faith. During the Celestial Convergence, foreign Evil Gods invaded while the deities fought among themselves. After the Goddess of the Moon was gravely wounded, she transformed her Divine Domain into a barrier against the invaders 217 228.

Faith and Source Quality

• Deities can gain Source Quality from believers after death. Granting blessings, fulfilling wishes and resurrecting believers within a Divine Domain consume it 121.
• Faith can be used to ignite Divine Fire and condense a Divine Spark. Karl finds that attaining godhood through faith would bind him to the world supplying it 298 308.
• Evil Gods may harvest living beings directly rather than nurture believers 121 250.

Divine Domains and symbols

• A deity's Divine Domain is closely tied to their strength; Karl reasons that a stronger deity would possess a larger domain 127.
• Each deity has a distinct symbol and divine name. Drawing the symbol and invoking the name can establish contact 114 393.
• Deities can bestow blessings and techniques on followers. God-bestowed Items can retain traces of their power and methods 65 150 225.

Limits

• Outside their own worlds, deities can be greatly weakened and often send dependents ahead to establish faith 279 408.
• Seventh-Tier Sovereigns can transcend the authority of a single world's rules 408.
