History

Black City

Aya succeeded Kolon as the owner of a stall in Laka Market. Initially presenting as a ragged, boyish-looking youth, she was desperate to keep the business running despite poor sales, rent obligations, cold, hunger, and injuries from her work. She exhausted her savings purchasing the stall and refused to give up even when the venture seemed doomed. 22 25

Her partnership with Karl began through Soul Powder. When she could initially provide only six portions, she admitted her failure rather than making excuses and promised to gather more. Given one day, she obtained thirty-two portions, though Karl noticed scars across her arms. She accepted the risk of dealing with him because Kolon had described him as a mysterious trader with unusual goods, and because she believed she had little worth stealing. 26

Karl's discounted food, medicine, and supplies enabled Aya to survive the severe winter and gather old acquaintances around her. When her stall was robbed and forcibly taken, she mobilized Xiao Nan, Old Lev, Eve, and others to help reclaim her position. The resulting group became the foundation of her team. 28 32 34

When the Brotherhood began investigating her transactions with Karl, Aya refused to remain a target. She devised an ambush against Iron Fist Abe's faction, exploiting Abe's habit of becoming drunk each night. During the assault, she led the initial infiltration, personally killing a guard with a thrown dagger, and coordinated her allies' use of Wrist Darts, crossbows, and close-quarters attacks. 41 42

Escape and Free Port

During Black City's collapse, Aya escaped with Karl, Xiao Nan, and Lyon through a hidden passage in the city wall. In Vitri City, she immediately focused on securing shelter, assessing the new environment, and keeping the group together even if Karl did not return. Her companions regarded Karl as their backing, but Aya as the pillar who held the group together. 64 66

In Free Port, Aya helped Karl establish a foothold in the Dragon King Merchant Guild's trade network. She became the practical operator of their potion shop—cleaning, managing sales, preparing ingredients, and learning potion-making from Karl. Her growing expertise made her valuable enough for kidnappers to identify her as a potion-maker worth more alive than dead. 69 71 73 93

Aya contracted Water Sickness but concealed it until Karl discovered the truth. Using a ritual from a book Karl provided, she prayed through the Divine Domain Fragment and was healed. The experience exposed her memories and feelings to Karl through the fragment, while the overwhelming fear of the responding presence nearly destroyed her mind. 116

Aya continued developing as a commander rather than merely a trader. She organized hunting operations, directed ships and Yellow Sheep bait formations, issued orderly retreat commands, and managed ammunition, heavy crossbows, fire oil, and navigation during expeditions. Fate and Death

After the Divine Domain collapsed, heavenly fire struck Tortuga Island, killing nearly all its inhabitants. Aya survived temporarily through the protection of the Sal Tree, but emerged gaunt, white-haired, and dying. She had gained the ability to perceive Threads of Fate and understood that the gods' attempt to alter fate had instead caused their destruction. 256

Aya revealed that she knew Karl's secret of traveling between worlds and asked him to create a future without aloof gods. She guided him to Tortuga Island's volcano, then dissipated into a Thread of Fate. 256

Her final preparations included a legacy that became the Fifth-Rank Secret Art Blessing of the Goddess of Fate, granting protection from externally created misfortune, the ability to touch the unseen, and improved breakthrough potential. Appearance

Aya's appearance changed drastically over the course of the story. In Black City, hunger and hardship left her thin, bruised, and dressed in rags; she was often mistaken for a boy. With reliable food and shelter, she regained her health, grew her hair long, and developed into a young woman.
