Background
Shrek Academy and rivalry with Ye Xingchen
Tang San recognized that Ye Xingchen's sword power differed from ordinary Soul Power and believed he could not withstand even one sword strike without Hidden Weapons. 28 When Ye Xingchen proposed a group called the Tang Sect, Tang San was notably uneasy with its name, which evoked his own connection to the Tang Sect and its weaponry. 32 33
His rivalry with Ye Xingchen intensified around Xiao Wu. Tang San repeatedly challenged Ye Xingchen in the Soul Fighting Arena, using Blue Silver Grass cages, Hidden Weapons, and a vine-concealed Clear Sky Hammer, but suffered decisive defeats. Xiao Wu's insistence that they were brother and sister and that Tang San should bless her feelings for another person left him emotionally devastated and drove his Soul Power into chaos. 37 38
Determined to close the gap, Tang San secretly trained and sought a third Soul Ring with Grandmaster. His breakthrough to Soul Elder strengthened his confidence, but his rematch ended with Ye Xingchen deflecting his attacks and shattering his Clear Sky Hammer Martial Soul with the Immortal Slaying Swords. 40 55 57 58
Captivity at the medicinal garden
Dugu Bo abducted Tang San from Heaven Dou Royal Academy and delivered him to Ye Xingchen, who forced him to identify and prepare treasures in the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well's medicinal garden. 74 76 Ye Xingchen subsequently compelled Tang San to forge the Hidden Weapons he knew, later selling or distributing those creations as his own. 77 79 86
Tang San was poisoned and made to work as a blacksmith. Though initially reduced to despair, he learned the garden's poisonous creatures and terrain during nearly a month of confinement, allowing him and Grandmaster to attempt an escape. 85 88 90
Spirit City and the City of Slaughter
During the Advanced Soul Master Competition, Tang San revealed his Clear Sky Hammer and used its Tool Martial Soul True Body against Ye Xingchen. After another crushing loss, he exposed Xiao Wu as a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast; Tang Hao intervened to protect him from Spirit Hall. 121 122
Tang San reunited with Tang Hao after five years and accepted his father's plan to temper him in the City of Slaughter. 123 There, he relied on the Mysterious Heaven Skill and Hundred Poisons Pills to neutralize the mind-affecting poison of Yellow Springs Road. 126 Ye Xingchen later stripped away Tang San's Blue Silver Domain and left him on Hell Road, where he obtained the Divine Slaughter's Domain instead. 135 138
Sea God Island and return
Seeking the strength to defeat Ye Xingchen, Tang San traveled toward Sea God Island, fighting continuously in Vast Sea City's Soul Fighting Arena to earn funds for the journey. 160 163 He reached the island after repeated setbacks and was protected by High Priest Bo Saixi, who recognized him as Tang Chen's great-grandson. 175 176
On Sea God Island, Tang San reached the hundredth step of Training Island and endured Tidal Body Tempering. Bai Xiuxiu used him as a target during the group's training, which severely injured him but significantly improved his physical body. 181 183 After fusing with Sea God power, he returned to the Clear Sky Sect and rapidly rose to level 99. 188

- Has appeared masked in the City of Slaughter. 129

Personality
Tang San is intensely driven by humiliation, rivalry, and the desire to surpass Ye Xingchen. Defeats routinely strengthen rather than end his resolve; even after his Clear Sky Hammer was broken, he insisted that Ye Xingchen was his mortal enemy. 38 54 59
His fixation often compromises his judgment. He becomes reckless when Xiao Wu and Ye Xingchen are involved, repeatedly challenges opponents who vastly outclass him, and later declares that he cannot advance further unless he defeats Ye Xingchen. 38 57 160 However, he remains deeply loyal to Grandmaster and reacts fiercely when his master is harmed. 59 88
Tang San also demonstrates resilience and technical intelligence. He endures forced labor and poison-based captivity, studies the medicinal garden's hazards, devises antidotes for Yellow Springs Road, and continues harsh training despite severe injuries. 88 90 126 183
