Arc 11The Sand and Seven-Tails

Liao Wu seized control of Sunagakure, captured Shukaku, and left Pakura to become Kazekage as Temari vowed revenge. Meanwhile, Nagato and Konan attacked Takigakure for the Seven-Tails, drawing Jiraiya, Shisui, Kakuzu, and finally Liao Wu into a battle that ended with Jiraiya confronting him.

  • Liao Wu restored Chiyo’s youth and took control of her and Pakura, while Chiyo sought Sasori’s Regeneration Core technique to restore consciousness to his parents’ puppets.
  • Liao Wu captured Shukaku and departed Sunagakure, leaving Chiyo to announce the beast’s loss as Karura accepted responsibility for Gaara and her other children.
  • Chiyo and the Sand Village commanders chose to retreat, while Temari vowed to avenge Rasa and became Pakura’s student as Pakura accepted the role of Fifth Kazekage.
  • Nagato and Konan’s forces attacked Takigakure and seized the Seven-Tails’ sealing artifact, but Kakuzu’s fire destroyed it and freed the beast.
  • Jiraiya confronted Nagato and Konan, while Shisui redirected the Seven-Tails’ attack and used Kotoamatsukami to make it his Summoning Beast.
  • Konan summoned Candy, who revealed Liao Wu had captured Shukaku and reverse-summoned him to Takigakure after Sasori completed Rasa’s Human Puppet.
  • Liao Wu arrived in Madara-like armor, rejected Jiraiya’s offer of Hokage support unless Monkey and Danzo committed ritual suicide, and trapped Jiraiya in an illusion before Jiraiya answered with Frog Sound.
Chapters 251–275 Vol. 3 Read

Ch. 251Soul and Chakra

Liao Wu explained to Chiyo how Chakra could power intelligent puppets, prompting her to consider using Sasori’s Parents’ Chakra to give his “Father” and “Mother” puppet consciousness. The chapter ended with Chiyo wondering how to summon their souls from the Pure Land and obtain the Chakra they carried.

  • Liao Wu asked Chiyo whether Life Reincarnation created a soul with Chakra or summoned one, and Chiyo explained how it worked on puppets and people.
  • Ebizo said the Puppet Force had abandoned its research because giving puppets life was too difficult and had consumed its resources.
  • Liao Wu proposed using Sasori’s Regeneration Core technology and Chakra containing its owner’s will to make intelligent puppets, astonishing Chiyo.
  • Chiyo suggested using Sasori’s Parents’ Chakra to give his “Father” and “Mother” puppets their consciousness, and Liao Wu said it could work if they could obtain that Chakra.
  • Chiyo reasoned that a soul could retain Chakra after death and wondered how to summon Sasori’s Parents’ souls from the Pure Land and keep them from being pulled back.

Ch. 252Chiyo's Youthful Restoration

Ryobu tested whether his Life Spore could restore Chiyo’s youth, while Chiyo considered how to bring Sasori’s parents’ souls back. Chiyo returned to her youthful appearance, leaving her and Ebizo stunned and Ryobu struggling to control his attraction.

  • Chiyo considered finding a way to summon the Chakra of Sasori’s parents, but Sasori told her not to waste her effort.
  • Ryobu explained that Chiyo was trying to save herself as well as Sasori, then sent his Clones to research ways to summon souls.
  • Ryobu threatened Sasori to make Chiyo focus on developing Life Reincarnation to restore the recently dead, and placed a Life Spore inside her.
  • Ryobu used Youth Regeneration, and the Life Spore restored Chiyo’s youthful appearance.
  • Sasori noticed Ryobu’s lustful reaction and injected him with a toxin that suppressed desire.
  • Chiyo touched her smooth face in confusion as Ebizo told her that she had regained her youth.

Ch. 253I Come from Hell

Liao Wu brought Chiyo and Ebizo under his control and ordered them to support Pakura as Kazekage while preparing for the Ninja Alliance against Madara Uchiha. Chiyo asked Sasori for his Regeneration Core technique so she could create intelligent puppets, but Sasori refused to believe her motive was only practical.

  • Liao Wu restored Chiyo's youth, planted a Spore in her heart, and revealed that he controlled both her and Pakura.
  • Chiyo and Ebizo learned that Liao Wu was preparing to break free of Madara's control and intended to use Sunagakure as his base.
  • Liao Wu ordered Ebizo to help Pakura become Kazekage and continue preparing for the Five Kage Summit and the Ninja Alliance, while Chiyo developed Life Reincarnation.
  • Chiyo asked Liao Wu to restore Ebizo's youth, and he promised to do so after she developed Life Reincarnation.
  • Chiyo told Sasori she would find a way to save him, then asked him for his Regeneration Core technique so she could make intelligent puppets.
  • Sasori suspected Chiyo wanted the technique to give consciousness to the Father and Mother puppets and declared that he came from hell.

Ch. 254The Heir of Sand Village's Fortune Had Just Died, and Heaven Sent Another Kage

Liao Wu secured the Sand Village’s submission after Rasa’s death and discovered that Gaara had gained Shukaku’s sand-manipulation abilities. The chapter ended with Yashamaru silently weighing his grief and the damage Rasa’s death would bring to his family.

  • Liao Wu shocked Sasori until he agreed to hand over the Regeneration Core technique, then left Chiyo and Ebizo to deal with him.
  • Candy revealed that Spores had been planted in Baki and the Sand Village Anbu, who chose to submit to Liao Wu rather than risk the village’s destruction.
  • Liao Wu questioned Yashamaru and the crying infant Gaara about who had sent him, but Gaara’s sand shielded him from harm.
  • Candy surmised that Shukaku’s remaining Chakra had merged with Gaara after Liao Wu used Wood Style to suppress it, giving the baby sand-manipulation abilities.
  • Yashamaru offered to do anything to protect Karura and Gaara, but Liao Wu rejected his offer and asked whether he blamed him for Rasa’s death.
  • Yashamaru remained silent as he considered Rasa’s death and how it would affect Karura, Temari, and Kankuro.

Ch. 255Confirm Shukaku's Departure, Welcome Home

Liao Wu showed Yashamaru the tragic future awaiting Gaara and his family, then left Sunagakure with Shukaku after defeating the village. Karura survived and reunited with Temari, while Sunagakure accepted that Shukaku’s power had been too difficult to control.

  • Liao Wu cast an illusion showing Yashamaru how Gaara would suffer after Karura’s death and Rasa’s betrayal, and Yashamaru resolved to tell Karura the truth rather than let Temari and Kankuro grow hateful.
  • Liao Wu left a Wood Golem at the Shukaku Altar and departed Sunagakure with Shukaku, while Sasori followed with Rasa’s sealed body and the Third Kazekage puppet.
  • Pakura, Kurenai, and Temari watched Liao Wu leave, and Temari found Karura and Yashamaru waiting for her.
  • Karura, having heard Yashamaru’s account of the illusion, held Gaara and accepted that Rasa’s death left her responsible for her children.
  • Chiyo told the gathered villagers that Sunagakure had been unable to control Shukaku and that losing him might ease the village’s burden.
  • Sunagakure’s main force arrived at the altar, and Chiyo explained that a secret technique had restored her youthful appearance.

Ch. 256There Are Debts of Gratitude You Can Leave Unpaid, but Vengeance Must Be Served

Chiyo told Sand Village that Uchiha Ryobu had killed Rasa and captured Shukaku, directing the village’s anger toward him while concealing Sasori’s role. Ryobu kept Shukaku captive and retaliated against Sasori as Temari vowed revenge, leaving Shukaku begging not to be sealed inside the Ten-Tails again.

  • Chiyo told the Sand Village commanders that Uchiha Ryobu had captured Shukaku and killed Rasa, and they agreed to return to the village rather than confront him.
  • Temari cried over her father’s death, and Pakura urged her to avenge him by killing Ryobu’s father; Temari accepted the impossible-sounding goal.
  • Temari secretly used the Spore to improve her training and contacted Ryobu to declare him her enemy, but Ryobu replied that he had killed her mother’s nose.
  • Ryobu complained to Candy about Chiyo blaming him, then shocked Sasori to vent his irritation.
  • Shukaku begged Ryobu not to put him inside the Ten-Tails, but Ryobu said he had to obey his superior officer, Madara Uchiha.

Ch. 257The Old Saying About Tigers Not Eating Their Cubs

Liao Wu discussed humanity’s enslavement of Tailed Beasts with Shukaku while Sasori turned Rasa’s corpse into a Human Puppet. As he helped, Liao Wu reflected on Rasa’s troubled choices as Kazekage and concluded that political pressure, rather than cruelty, had made him a failure.

  • Shukaku lamented that humans enslaved Tailed Beasts, and Liao Wu replied that humans enslaved their own kind as well.
  • Sasori began turning Rasa’s corpse into a Human Puppet, and Candy recoiled at his description of the cruelty he had once considered inflicting.
  • Liao Wu helped Sasori with the Human Puppet process and wondered why Rasa had chosen to become Kazekage.
  • Liao Wu reasoned that Rasa had not truly wanted Gaara dead and had likely ordered failed assassination attempts under pressure from the Sand Village elders.
  • Liao Wu concluded that Rasa had been a failure who was worn down by politics, not a bad person.

Ch. 258The Value of Shukaku

Ryobu and his companions discovered that Shukaku could locate gold deposits throughout the Nara Desert, but Ryobu rejected the temptation to value wealth over power. As they left Sunagakure, Ryobu sensed Inuzuka Tsume tracking them and learned she was waiting for Leaf Village reinforcements.

  • Ryobu promised to care for Rasa's family as Rasa's eyes closed, while Sasori turned him into a Human Puppet for his Gold Dust Secret Technique.
  • Candy and Sasori discussed using Rasa to prospect for gold, prompting Shukaku to offer his knowledge of the Nara Desert's hidden gold mines.
  • Ryobu, Sasori, and Candy recognized that Shukaku's size and centuries of desert knowledge made him a far more valuable prospector than Rasa.
  • Shukaku urged Ryobu to keep him alive by promising him the Land of Wind's gold, but Ryobu insisted that power mattered more than wealth and threatened him into silence.
  • Ryobu sensed Inuzuka Tsume following him with Heimaru, and Tsume explained that she planned to contact Leaf Village reinforcements rather than confront him directly.

Ch. 259Inuzuka Style Mixed Transformation

Liao Wu found Claw on the battlefield and fought her and Heimaru after she refused to submit to him. He defeated their Three-Headed Wolf transformation with Wood Style, absorbed its Chakra, and learned how the Inuzuka technique worked.

  • Liao Wu used his Chakra to force Claw and Heimaru down, but Heimaru stood back up and endured Candy’s gold bars.
  • Claw and Heimaru combined their Chakra with Claw’s Shadow Clone to transform into a Three-Headed Wolf and attack Liao Wu.
  • Liao Wu blocked the wolf with Tree Realm Wall, then bound it with Thorn Kill Technique, ending the transformation.
  • Liao Wu absorbed the wolf’s Chakra and used White Zetsu Cells to replicate the Inuzuka secret technique.

Ch. 260Candy, Ultimate Evolution

Ryobu used the Sharingan to learn the Inuzuka Clan’s Mixed Transformation and adapted it for Candy, producing a giant, Tailed Beast-like cat. The transformation’s terrifying Chakra drew Shukaku’s and Sasori’s attention, and Shukaku mistook the creature for Matatabi.

  • Ryobu tried to persuade Heimaru and Candy to practice Mixed Transformation, then caught Candy and forced her to learn the technique.
  • Ryobu controlled Claw with his Sharingan and learned the Inuzuka Clan’s Mixed Transformation from her.
  • Ryobu and Candy synchronized their Chakra and performed the Inuzuka-Style Beast-Human Hybrid Transformation.
  • A giant, two-tailed cat with Scarlet Sharingan emerged, releasing immense Bestial Chakra that stunned Claw, Heimaru, and Shukaku.
  • Sasori resisted the giant cat’s entrancing gaze, while Shukaku mistook it for Matatabi and asked about her blue flames.

Ch. 261The Cat God—Two-Tails Bimyo

Liao Wu used the Inuzuka Clan's Mixed Transformation with Candy to become Two-Tails Bimyo, gaining Chakra comparable to the Nine-Tails. After taunting Shukaku and crushing Claw's confidence, he left Claw reconsidering what made a life worthwhile.

  • Liao Wu controlled Two-Tails Bimyo by pushing Candy's consciousness into its tails and marveled at his immense Chakra.
  • Shukaku recognized Liao Wu beneath the disguise and questioned why he still needed to capture Tailed Beasts.
  • Liao Wu pinned Shukaku down and demanded that he call him Dad, while Claw and Heimaru woke to find Liao Wu far stronger than before.
  • Claw despaired over the Uchiha Bloodline's advantage, and Liao Wu appeared above her in his colossal Two-Tails form to taunt her.
  • Heimaru encouraged Claw to live according to her own values, and Claw began to accept that happiness did not depend on power or status.

Ch. 262Rasa's Eyes

Liao Wu subdued Claw and Heimaru, healed Heimaru with Rasa’s eye, and copied the Inuzuka Clan’s secret techniques. He left Heimaru with Claw and traveled with Candy on Shukaku toward the Land of Rain.

  • Liao Wu’s beastlike aura knocked Claw unconscious and made Heimaru beg for mercy, so Liao Wu freed them and used Wood Style Chakra to treat Claw.
  • Liao Wu returned to human form, healed Heimaru’s missing ear, and transplanted Rasa’s eye into him with Yin Yang Release.
  • Heimaru pledged loyalty to Liao Wu, who assigned him to spy in the Leaf Village and defecate in front of the Hokage Building.
  • Liao Wu searched Claw’s mind and copied several Inuzuka Clan secret techniques, including Super Smell, Fang Over Fang, and Four Legs Technique.
  • Liao Wu gave Heimaru the gold Candy had thrown him, then left with Candy on Shukaku for the Land of Rain.

Ch. 263The Essence of the Soul Is Bloodlust

Claw and Heimaru reflected on Liao Wu’s actions and the village’s dark secrets before returning to Sunagakure. There, Chiyo learned Sasori had massacred the Elder Council, leaving her with control of the village and a desperate hope that she could still save him.

  • Heimaru admitted he had pretended to be sweet to Liao Wu, while Claw realized Liao Wu had healed her injuries and wondered whether he was truly an enemy.
  • Claw inspected Heimaru’s transplanted human eyes, and Heimaru carried her toward Sunagakure while marveling at the colors he could now see.
  • Chiyo found the Elder Council slaughtered by Sasori and broke down as Baki and the Sand Village Anbu withdrew.
  • Ebizo told Chiyo that Sasori may have killed the elders to remove threats to her authority, leaving her with power over Sunagakure.
  • Chiyo hoped she could save Sasori by giving his parents’ puppets their consciousness, but concluded that bloodlust lay at the essence of his soul.

Ch. 264The Anbu Went Out, and Not a Blade of Grass Remained

Maki, Yashamaru, and the Sand Village jonin learned that Sasori had killed the Third and Fourth Kazekage and the Elder Council, then argued over how to handle the truth and choose a successor. The village leaders were left divided between Chiyo and Pakura as candidates for Kazekage.

  • Maki and the Anbu revealed that Sasori had killed the Third Kazekage, turned him into a Human Puppet, and later killed the Fourth Kazekage and the elders.
  • The Anbu and Puppet Force jonin blamed each other for Sasori’s cruelty and argued over their units’ histories and loyalties.
  • Maki stopped the dispute by reminding them that they needed to choose a Kazekage before the Five Kage Summit the next day.
  • The Anbu backed Pakura, while the Puppet Force defended Chiyo and argued that Sasori’s crimes should be blamed on Uchiha Ryobu to protect the village’s reputation.
  • Maki and Yashamaru worried that the village would fall apart without Chiyo, despite the factions’ disagreement over who should lead.

Ch. 265Kankuro: Rasa, Today I Sever Our Father-Son Relationship

After Rasa’s death, Karura and Gaara were found healthy after Uchiha Ryobu treated them, while Temari asked Pakura to train her so she could avenge her father. Pakura warned her that Ryobu and Sasori were far beyond her reach but began to admire her resolve.

  • The medical ninja discovered that Karura and Gaara were healthy and learned that Uchiha Ryobu had treated them.
  • Kankuro vowed to avenge Rasa, but Pakura slapped him and told him he was too weak to extract Chakra.
  • Temari gave Gaara a Shukaku Doll and watched him play with it beside Karura.
  • Temari knelt before Pakura and asked to become her student so she could avenge Rasa.
  • Pakura warned Temari that Ryobu was overwhelmingly powerful, but Temari insisted she could not abandon her Nindo, and Pakura began to approve of her determination.

Ch. 266Sand Village Was Small, but the Winds of Treachery Were Fierce

After Sasori’s massacre destabilized Sand Village, Chiyo and the Jonin debated who should become Fifth Kazekage and face Madara Uchiha. Chiyo nominated Pakura, who objected to being pushed into the role, while Chiyo pretended to be too old to serve.

  • Temari asked Pakura to train her to surpass Uchiha Ryobu, and Pakura accepted her as a student.
  • Chiyo called a meeting to choose a Fifth Kazekage, as the Puppet Force backed Chiyo and Anbu backed Pakura.
  • Pakura suspected that Chiyo and others had become Ryobu’s puppets and worried that Sand Village might become his private property.
  • Chiyo admitted that Sasori was her grandson, took responsibility for raising him, and bowed to the Jonin.
  • The Jonin tried to absolve Chiyo of blame, but Chiyo insisted Sasori could still be saved and turned the meeting toward choosing a Kazekage.
  • Chiyo nominated Pakura, who protested that the role meant facing Madara Uchiha, while Chiyo feigned old age and winked at her.

Ch. 26760 Was the Perfect Age to Take a Risk

Pakura was forced into becoming Kazekage as the Third Hokage learned that Uchiha Ryobu had killed Rasa and captured Shukaku. As the Leaf Village feared further attacks on other Tailed Beasts, Nagato and Konan invaded Takigakure to seize the Seven-Tails.

  • Pakura argued that Chiyo was old enough to take a risk, but Chiyo feigned weakness and the gathered ninjas forced Pakura to accept the Kazekage role.
  • The Third Hokage learned that Uchiha Ryobu had attacked Sand Village and prepared to go there, but an Anbu reported that Ryobu had killed Rasa and captured Shukaku.
  • The Third Hokage ordered contact with the other Ninja Villages to check on their Tailed Beasts and Jinchuriki, and Utatane Koharu reminded him that Takigakure also possessed a Tailed Beast.
  • Nagato, Konan, and their allies attacked Takigakure and overwhelmed its defenders near the Seven-Tails Sealing Altar.
  • The Takigakure Leader recognized the invaders as Madara's subordinates, while Grass Village's information and White Zetsu's guidance had enabled them to find and enter the hidden village.

Ch. 268Hero's Water

  • Takigakure Leader drank Hero's Water despite its life-shortening effects, and his son Shemu watched from hiding.
  • Takigakure Leader unleashed three Water Dragon Bullets at Nagato, but Nagato countered with Great Fire Annihilation and Crushing Wind.
  • Konan led the Grass Village and Rain Village forces toward the Seven-Tails' artifact while Takigakure Ninja tried to flee with it.
  • Konan restrained the Ninja carrying the Insect Seal Pot, drained his Chakra, and seized the artifact containing the Seven-Tails.

Ch. 269Kakuzu, Jiraiya Comes to the Rescue

Kakuzu exposed the truth behind his defection from Takigakure and attacked the village’s shinobi while fighting Konan over the Seven-Tails sealing artifact. Jiraiya arrived with Konoha Anbu and urged Kakuzu to stop, reminding him that Madara Uchiha was their real enemy.

  • Kakuzu appeared and contested Konan’s control of the Insect Seal Pot, while Takigakure’s shinobi recognized him as the rogue ninja who had supposedly assassinated the First Hokage.
  • Kakuzu recalled that Takigakure’s leaders had framed him after sending him to assassinate Hashirama, prompting him to steal Earth Grudge Fear and flee the village.
  • Enraged by the village’s version of his past, Kakuzu released two elemental masks and attacked the Takigakure shinobi.
  • Jiraiya arrived on Gama Ken with Konoha Anbu and used the giant toad to suppress Kakuzu’s wide-range attacks.
  • Nagato and Konan recognized their former teacher as Jiraiya urged Kakuzu to calm down and focus on Madara Uchiha.

Ch. 270Seven-Tails Chongming Breaks Free

Kakuzu’s attack destroyed the pot sealing the Seven-Tails, freeing Chongming amid the battle near Takigakure’s Ancient Tree. As the Tailed Beast took to the sky, Black and White Zetsu recognized the powerful opponents gathered below and contacted Liao Wu.

  • Kakuzu recalled his Mask Monsters, then attacked Konan with black tendrils and a powerful Fire-Wind Combination Ninjutsu when her paper began draining his Chakra.
  • Konan retreated from the flames, while Nagato rushed to warn her and Takigakure’s ninjas tried to protect the Ancient Tree.
  • The Takigakure Leader collapsed from the Hero’s Water’s side effects as a young Leaf Village Anbu rescued Shemu from the flames.
  • Kakuzu’s fire destroyed the Insect Seal Pot, and the Seven-Tails broke free and blasted the flames aside with its wings.
  • Black and White Zetsu assessed Jiraiya, Kakuzu, the Leaf Anbu, and the freed Seven-Tails, then contacted Liao Wu.

Ch. 271Nagato's Adamantine Sealing

Shemu watched his father, the Takigakure Leader, die after using Hero's Water, while Nagato defended his Moon Eye Plan to Jiraiya. When the Seven-Tails prepared a Tailed Beast Ball, Nagato unleashed Adamantine Sealing to restrain it.

  • Shisui brought Shemu to the dying Takigakure Leader, who gave his son final instructions to protect the villagers before dying.
  • Jiraiya confronted Nagato and Konan over their attack on Takigakure, and Nagato defended the Moon Eye Plan as a necessary path to peace.

  • The Seven-Tails formed a Tailed Beast Ball, and Jiraiya raised an Earth Flow Rampart to shield the Takigakure Ninjas.
  • Nagato created ten golden Adamantine Sealing chains and sent them toward the Seven-Tails, using the Uzumaki technique to suppress it and absorb Chakra.

Ch. 272Shisui's Kotoamatsukami

Shisui used his Mangekyō Sharingan to stop the Seven-Tails from destroying Takigakure, revealing his hidden power to the Anbu and Jiraiya. He controlled the beast with Kotoamatsukami, but the effort left him weakened and the technique could not be used again for ten years.

  • The Seven-Tails dodged Nagato's Adamantine Sealing and fired a Tailed Beast Ball toward Takigakure.
  • Shisui used his Mangekyō Sharingan to redirect the Seven-Tails' attack away from the village and change its will.
  • Shisui's fellow Anbu recognized his Mangekyō Sharingan, while Black and White Zetsu took notice of him.
  • Jiraiya questioned Shisui about his hidden Mangekyō and the bleeding eye, and Shisui explained that controlling the Seven-Tails had drained him.

Ch. 273Konan Called for Backup

Shisui used Kotoamatsukami to control the Seven-Tails, leaving himself nearly drained, while Nagato called for backup. Konan summoned Candy, who revealed that Ryobu was busy capturing Shukaku and infiltrating the desert, then began a Reverse Summon Technique.

  • Shisui used Kotoamatsukami to make the Seven-Tails his Summoning Beast, exhausting nearly all his Chakra.
  • Kakuzu considered taking Shisui's heart but rejected the idea and honored his contract with Leaf Village.
  • Nagato ordered Konan to call for backup as his side faced Jiraiya, Shisui, Kakuzu, and the controlled Seven-Tails.
  • Konan summoned Candy, who explained that Ryobu's Spore inside Konan had enabled the Summoning Technique.
  • Candy said Ryobu had captured Shukaku and was infiltrating the desert, then activated the Reverse Summon Technique.

Ch. 274Third Eye

Sasori turned Rasa’s corpse into a Human Puppet and copied Rasa’s Third Eye technique for Liao Wu. After White Zetsu reported that Jiraiya and Kakuzu had entered Takigakure during the Seven-Tails operation, Liao Wu arranged to reach the village by reverse summoning.

Liao Wu was summoned to Takigakure, where he appeared in armor resembling Madara Uchiha’s and faced Jiraiya, Shisui, and the others. Shisui and Jiraiya tried to recruit him, but Liao Wu rejected their offers and clashed with Jiraiya, who ended the chapter by casting an illusion technique at him.

  • Candy summoned Liao Wu to Takigakure, and he left a Spore Clone behind to watch Sasori and Shukaku while Nekomata and Snow Leopard took Shukaku to Amegakure.
  • Liao Wu appeared in Madara-like armor, and Kakuzu mistook him for Madara before Jiraiya identified him as Uchiha Ryobu.
