Under the moonlight, Kade and Sera stood at opposite ends of the clearing.
Sirian and Linor knelt in the center, the twisted halos around them growing increasingly unstable as black-red and dark-purple energy writhed incessantly, eroding their sanity.
"Are you ready?" Kade looked at Sera.
Sera took a deep breath, her black tail straightening. "Begin."
Kade closed his eyes, pressed his palms together, and began to pray softly.

Golden light began to emerge around him like the first rays of dawn. It was warm and steadfast, driving away the darkness around them. The radiance gathered into a ring that spread outward from Kade.

Black mist rose from beneath her feet like the tentacles of the Abyss, carrying an eerie tranquility.
The mist slowly spread, forming another ring opposite Kade's holy light.
"Now," Xia Lin reminded them quietly from the side, "move forward at the same time."
Kade and Sera began walking toward each other.
Golden holy light and black mist—two forces that should have been irreconcilable—slowly drew closer in the clearing.
When the edges of the two rings touched, there was no explosion, no clash.
The instant the holy light and the Abyss came into contact, they actually began to merge.
The golden light did not disperse the darkness, nor did the black mist devour the light.
They intertwined, forming an entirely new color.
It was like the border between dusk and dawn, like the color of the sky
