Chen leaped down from the building. Midair, he bit his thumb and quickly formed the Hand Seals.
"Summoning Technique!"
"Poof!" A cloud of smoke appeared out of nowhere. A colossal creature leaped from the smoke and landed on the ground, kicking up a storm of dust. Cracks spread across the earth beneath its feet. It was the Pomeranian, Six Paths Dog! Chen landed on Six Paths Dog's head.
Six Paths Dog was even bigger than before. He had once stood over ten meters tall, but now he had grown to nearly thirty meters. He was a bona fide monster!
"Hm? Is that... a Summoned Beast?" Kakashi, who had been about to head elsewhere with Might Guy to help with the rescue effort, heard the crash and turned to look.
"Is that... what that kid summoned?" Might Guy spotted Chen standing on Six Paths Dog's head and exclaimed in surprise.
"Kakashi, let's go over there. Our ninja are about to be overwhelmed!" Kakashi saw the giant snakes rampaging while Konoha's ninja struggled desperately to hold them back. They couldn't even hurt the snakes, so he called out to Might Guy.
"Right! Let's go!" Might Guy shouted excitedly and charged toward the giant snakes.
Meanwhile, Chen looked Six Paths Dog over in amazement after summoning him. "Is... is this Erha? It's only been three years, and he's grown this big? Summoned Beasts really do grow fast!"
"I'm gonna kick your ass!" Six Paths Dog shouted his boisterous catchphrase as soon as he appeared, then glanced around.
"Kid, why'd you summon me this time? If you want me to dig tunnels again, you're dead!"
"Hey, Erha! Long time no see. I can't believe you've gotten so huge!" Chen said to Six Paths Dog beneath him. "Of course I called you for something good. There's a war going on, and Konoha's under attack by the Sand Village and Sound Ninja. I need your help taking them out!"
"Oh! A war? So I finally get to cut loose today! Heh... I'm fired up! Kid, you finally did something right for once. Leave those Sand Village and Sound Ninja losers to me!"
"Heh heh! Tonight, I'm hunting to my heart's content!" Six Paths Dog shouted eagerly and started to run off to pick a fight, but Chen stopped him.
"Erha, one thing first! You can only attack the Sand Village and Sound Ninja. Don't hurt anyone from Konoha. I don't want to make an enemy of them. That'd be a huge pain. I can't afford to pick a fight with Konoha right now, understand? If you don't listen, I won't summon you again, even when there's a fight!"
Chen was genuinely worried that the battle-crazed Six Paths Dog would go on a rampage and slaughter everyone, so he warned him.
"Got it, got it! You're such a nag, kid!" Six Paths Dog replied impatiently.
Just as Chen was about to send Erha after the Sound Ninja and Sand Village, a howl suddenly rang out in the distance. Chen looked toward the sound and saw a Konoha ninja being swallowed by one of the giant snakes. After swallowing its victim, the snake raised its head and let out a series of arrogant hisses.
"Damn beast!" Chen gritted his teeth as he looked at the giant snakes and spoke to Six Paths Dog. "Erha, those worms are getting too cocky. Kill them!"
"Heh heh! Just what I wanted. I've always wanted a belt. Now I can get a pair of leather boots, too!" Six Paths Dog said as he charged toward the giant snakes.
The Konoha ninja were desperately trying to stop the snakes. "Hold them back! We can't let them into the village!" one Konoha ninja shouted to his companions while throwing kunai at a giant snake.
The kunai struck the snake as if it were made of steel, sparking on impact before bouncing away. They couldn't hurt the snake at all.
"Damn it! Use jutsu!"
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!" Seeing that kunai and shuriken were useless, the ninja immediately attacked with a jutsu. But it didn't hurt the snake either. The fireball dissipated against its body, leaving it completely unharmed. Instead, the attack drew the snake's attention. It opened its enormous jaws and lunged at the ninja. Before he could react, it swallowed him whole!
"Miyagi... Damn you! I'll kill you!" Seeing his companion swallowed, another ninja let rage take over and charged toward the snake without fear.
"Akita, watch out! Get back here!" the other ninja shouted to the one rushing toward the snake. But he was consumed by grief over losing his friend and ignored their warnings.
After a few leaps, the ninja landed on the snake's head and desperately stabbed at it with his kunai. Unfortunately, he was nothing more than a regular cannon fodder character; he didn't suddenly unleash twice his strength in a fit of rage and tear the enemy apart like a protagonist in a novel. All he could do was shower the snake's head with sparks. He was no more than an irritation, and his attacks did no real damage.
But he had enraged the snake. It whipped its head several times, flinging the ant clinging to it into a building and smashing it. The ninja landed in the rubble. The snake opened its jaws and lunged at him.
"Is... this where it ends for me?" The chunin watched the enormous jaws draw closer, gave a bitter smile, and closed his eyes, resigned to his fate.
"Boom!"
Just as the ninja thought he was about to die, he suddenly heard a loud crash!
"I... I'm alive?" The chunin opened his eyes at the sound and felt all over his body, unable to believe it.
"Hey! Hey! Hey! You're still alive for now, but if you stay here, that might not last!" A voice rang out. The chunin looked up and froze. A gigantic monster stood in front of him, its back turned. Three curved blades were mounted on its left arm, and the snake that had lunged at him was impaled through the head by them. Their tips gleamed with a chilling light where they jutted out of the snake's skull. He looked up along the monster's body and saw a person standing on its head—the one who had just spoken.
"S-so amazing. Are... are you reinforcements?" The chunin stared blankly at Chen.
"Well, sort of!"
"D-damn it. If... if I'd held on a little longer, Miyagi... Miyagi wouldn't have..." The ninja thought of his friend again and spoke in anguish.
"I'm sorry I couldn't save him!"
"Akita, are you all right?" Several Konoha ninja leaped over to the injured chunin and asked with concern. They noticed Erha and Chen, too.
"That's... Anbu gear! Are you reinforcements?" the ninja asked, looking at Chen atop Six Paths Dog's head.
"Get him out of here. I'll take care of things here!" Chen told them.
"Uh... yes!" The ninja responded, then helped the injured chunin away as quickly as they could.
"Hiss! Hiss!" The other two giant snakes saw Erha kill one of their companions as soon as he appeared and immediately hissed at him.
"Hmph! Worthless. I'll have you reunited with it soon enough," Six Paths Dog said disdainfully to the snakes.
"Erha, take one each. Finish this quickly!" Chen said to Six Paths Dog beneath him. As he spoke, he quickly formed Hand Seals and gathered Chakra in his right hand, forming lightning.
"Chirp... chirp... chirp..."
Kakashi and Might Guy, who had been watching Chen, stared at him in shock.
"Kakashi, th-that's..." Might Guy said, astonished, as he looked at Kakashi.
"Yeah! It's Chidori!" Kakashi said gravely, watching Chen in the distance. His mask hid his expression.
"Could it be you?"
"No. I'm sure I only taught Sasuke." Kakashi explained to Might Guy, his eyes still fixed on Chen. "I can't believe someone in Anbu can use Chidori! But without the Sharingan..."
"Erha, let's go!" Chen called to Six Paths Dog.
"Right!" Erha roared excitedly, hefted his enormous curved blade, and charged at the two giant snakes. The snakes opened their jaws and lunged at Six Paths Dog and Chen.
Chen pushed off from Erha's head and leaped high into the air. After flipping once, he plunged toward the snakes below. One of them reared up and snapped at Chen, trying to swallow him whole.
"You beast! You like eating people, don't you? Try a different flavor! Lightning Release: Chidori!"
Chen dodged the snake's attack in midair, then landed on its back and drove the Chidori in his hand into its body. The savage lightning tore through the snake's skin. It let out a pained hiss and thrashed violently, but Chen had already channeled Chakra into his feet and stuck fast to the snake's body. No matter how violently it shook, his feet stayed firmly planted.
"This isn't over!" Chen shouted. He bent down, pushed off with both feet, and charged toward the snake's head, dragging the Chidori along its body. The raging lightning carved a long gash into the snake, extending farther as Chen moved.
"Die!" When he reached the snake's head, Chen drove his Chidori-coated right hand deep into its skull. He channeled more Chakra through it, making the Chidori explode inside the snake's head. The snake let out a pained howl, collapsed to the ground, and stopped moving.
