Chen was frustrated. He didn't expect that snatching a random kill would end up provoking an Anbu—and of all people, Uzuki Yugao.
"Damn it~ This is like a fake Li Gui running into the real Li Kui. I actually ran into a genuine Anbu. Who the hell knows what Anbu use as code names? Better to just get out of here!" Chen thought gloomily as he looked at the woman before him.
"Speak up. Which squad do you belong to, and what's your code name?" Yugao demanded from across the way.
"Uh... this... nice weather we're having, huh? And the air's really fresh! Heh heh!" Chen looked around evasively, trying to laugh it off.
"Your code name. And which squad you're assigned to!" Yugao wasn't swayed by his deflection. She stepped closer, pressing him.
"My code name is classified. I belong to Hokage-sama's... classified unit. Can't just go around revealing it."
"Nonsense. I've served in Anbu for years, always guarding Hokage-sama. I've never heard of any classified unit under him. You're lying!" Yugao found him highly suspicious and decided to take him in for interrogation.
"Not talking? Then you've lost your chance!" She drew the blade from her back and advanced on Chen.
"Wait! I'll talk. My code name is Husband."
"Husband?" Yugao was momentarily thrown off.
"Yeah! Wife!"
"Shameless! How dare you mock me! Die!" Realizing she'd been tricked, Yugao's fury ignited as she charged at Chen, sword swinging.
"Look! Behind you! A plane!" Chen suddenly pointed past her, his voice panicked.
"What?" Startled by his tone, Yugao instinctively turned to check behind her, expecting something dangerous. Seeing nothing, she whipped back around—only to find Chen had vanished without a trace, as if he'd never been there at all.
"That despicable bastard! Toying with me over and over! Don't let me find out who you are, or I'll make you pay!" Yugao seethed, realizing she'd been duped—twice—and still had no idea who he was. It infuriated her.
Just then, several more Anbu appeared beside her.
"Huh! Didn't expect you to finish so quickly?" one of them remarked casually, eyeing the Sound Ninja corpse.
"Shut up!" Yugao, still fuming, snapped at him before storming off alone.
"Uh... did I say something wrong?" the Anbu asked his teammates innocently.
"Who knows when you pissed her off? Let's go. The barrier over there is gone. Wonder how the Third Hokage is doing. Let's head to him." With that, the Anbu vanished in a flash, leaping away as dark silhouettes into the distance.
Elsewhere, Chen activated the Flying Thunder God Technique and returned to his room.
"Ding! Host has completed the war mission. Reward Points: 50,000. Total Points: 139,043. Open Exchange Interface?"
"Finally got a decent sum. Now I can exchange for the Mangekyō, right? Open the S-rank Exchange Page!"
An exchange page appeared before Chen's eyes, filled with S-rank skills and items, including: Lightning Style: Raikiri! Lightning Style: Kirin! Wind Style: Rasenshuriken! Sage Art: Goemon! And other S-rank jutsu.
"Huh! There's even Wood Style as a Kekkei Genkai?" Chen froze when he spotted an item's description.
"Wood Style, a combination of Water Style and Earth Style. It's a new Chakra Nature born from their fusion, turning chakra into a special Kekkei Genkai."
"System, are there conditions for exchanging Wood Style?"
"Wood Style. Item Rank: S. Item Type: Kekkei Genkai. Exchange Cost: 100,000 Points. Note: Since Wood Style is the fusion of Water Style and Earth Style, creating a new Chakra Nature, the host must possess both Water and Earth chakra affinities to exchange. Host conditions insufficient. Cannot exchange."
"So if I want Wood Style, I'd need to exchange for Water and Earth chakra first. 100,000 points—same price as the Mangekyō Sharingan! But Wood Style is worth it," Chen mused inwardly.
"Still, Wood Style involves too much baggage and draws too much attention. At this stage, I don't need it yet. Let's exchange for the Mangekyō first." Chen silently commanded, "System, exchange for Mangekyō Sharingan."
"Mangekyō Sharingan. Item Rank: S. Exchange Cost: 100,000 Points. This exchange requires possession of Three-Tomoe Sharingan. Host conditions met. Exchange?"
"Exchange!"
"Exchange successful. Points deducted. Remaining Points: 39,043."
The moment the system's voice faded, a sudden flood of memories crashed into Chen's mind—the Night of the Massacre. He saw Mikoto Uchiha lying in a pool of blood, and a wave of overwhelming grief surged within him.
Then a searing pain burned in his eyes. The three tomoe in his Sharingan spun wildly, faster and faster, until they linked together, forming a Hexagram pattern. The instant the pattern took shape, a surge of power flowed from his eyes, driving his chakra to condense violently, pushing him straight through to Elite Jonin level. The burning in his eyes gradually subsided.
"Hah~" Chen collapsed to the floor, drenched in sweat, gasping for air.
"Danzo... I'll make you pay. Blood for Blood."
As the memory of the massacre replayed, his hatred for Danzo resurfaced, burning with a fierce urge for revenge. But Chen forced himself to suppress the impulse to strike immediately. It took a long while before he calmed down.
"System, is my Mangekyō complete? I can feel my strength has broken through."
"Yes. Host has awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan. Host's strength has reached Elite Jonin level."
"Finally done..." Chen was utterly drained. He'd fought for hours today, and though the system restored his stamina, his mental energy was spent. Coupled with the pain of awakening his eyes, he collapsed onto the floor and fell asleep.
Chen slept straight through until evening, waking only when Sasuke returned. But Sasuke looked pretty banged up too—he went straight to his room and lay down as soon as he got home.
"I slept that long? Sasuke's back already? Looks like he took a beating fighting Gaara. The Sand and Sound Ninja must have retreated by now," Chen thought, noting the dark sky outside.
"Oh, right—I haven't even seen my Mangekyō Sharingan yet!" Excited at the thought of his newly acquired Mangekyō, he couldn't wait to check it out.
Chen grabbed a mirror from home and focused his intent.
"Mangekyō Sharingan!"
His eyes shifted, first revealing the Three-Tomoe Sharingan, then the three tomoe spun rapidly, merging into a Hexagram pattern that filled both his pupils.
"So this is my Mangekyō? Why does it look so much like Sasuke's from the original story? Is it because we're twins?" As Chen gazed at his Mangekyō in the mirror, a stream of information entered his mind.
Mangekyō Sharingan: A Kekkei Genkai of the Uchiha Clan, the highest form of the Sharingan. Each Mangekyō possesses a unique ability, varying by the user. Since the host's Sharingan was acquired through the system rather than naturally awakened, the host's Mangekyō abilities are defaulted as: Left Eye—Tsukuyomi, Right Eye—Amaterasu, Both Eyes—Susanoo.
Tsukuyomi: A high-level genjutsu usable only with the Mangekyō Sharingan. No one outside the Uchiha Clan's Mangekyō can resist it. This technique transports the target's mind to another world, where time and quality are entirely controlled by the caster. In that fabricated world, time passes in an instant in reality. The technique can shatter the target's psyche, and the degree of damage is also controlled by the caster. It is an extremely dangerous genjutsu, effective only when eye contact is made.
Amaterasu: A high-level ninjutsu that can only be used with the Mangekyō Sharingan. It summons black flames from the center of the sun at the focal point of the Mangekyō Sharingan's vision, capable of burning everything to ashes and never extinguishing until the target is destroyed.
Susanoo: One must possess the Mangekyō Sharingan and simultaneously master the fusion of the Left Eye's pupil power and the Right Eye's pupil power to unlock the ability to activate it. (I really can't find any relevant introduction to Susanoo.)
"Heh heh~ So this is the full extent of my Mangekyō Sharingan's abilities? It's completely overlapping with Itachi's powers! But it's not bad either. Now I don't have to live in fear anymore. Even without the village's protection, I can stand on my own in the ninja world. Even if Danzo sends his 'Root' to hunt me down, I'll make sure they never return. Everything is ready, all I need is the east wind. Now I just wait for the Sound Four to come and take Sasuke away. Then I'll leave the village with them, creating the illusion for Konoha that Chen was taken by Sasuke. That'll save me a lot of trouble."
Although Chen's current strength meant he no longer feared Konoha, doing things this way would still be troublesome. After all, Chen was still a resident of Konoha. If the village caught on that Chen had escaped on his own, they would definitely send people to bring him back. At that point, Chen would never have peace. So the longer he could keep it hidden, the better!
"Ahh~" After deactivating his Mangekyō Sharingan, Chen yawned in boredom and went back to sleep.
