Background and History

Kenjaku is an ancient curse user who has survived for roughly a millennium by transferring his brain into other bodies. At the time of his introduction, he operates under the identity of Suguru Geto, whose body grants him access to Cursed Spirit Manipulation. The sutures across his forehead are the visible condition of the Binding Vow that lets him master this body-hopping technique. 4 6

He approaches Mahito alongside Jogo, presenting himself as a partner who wants to overturn the current jujutsu world. Mahito immediately detects that Kenjaku is lying about his full motives by reading fluctuations in his soul, forcing Kenjaku to treat the new cursed spirit with greater caution. 2

Kenjaku organizes the alliance of Mahito, Jogo, Hanami, and Dagon, recruits power-hungry curse users such as Haruta Shigemo, and proposes Binding Vows to prevent betrayal before their shared objective is achieved. 4 5 He later explains that immediate action is necessary because Tengen is nearing godhood; Tengen's barriers would make it difficult for cursed spirits to remain hidden. 6

In exchange for Mahito's agreement to aid him once with all his strength, Kenjaku teaches Mahito ancient jujutsu. He reveals both his age and his name during this arrangement, though he remains wary that Mahito may exploit true names or eventually outgrow him. 6

Kenjaku is also an expert in Incarnation. Over centuries, he collected Binding Vows from powerful sorcerers, turned them into cursed objects after death, and spent years refining compatible vessels so they could return at their former peak. He recommends that Mahito create a perfect vessel by reincarnating part of his own soul through a human mother and later consuming his “other half”; Mahito rejects the method. 21 22
