Gao Shengjie shot the man a fierce glare and muttered, "Around Star City, which faction do you think has the authority to fly a helicopter?"
The man didn't dare talk back to Gao Shengjie. He smiled ingratiatingly, his eyes darting away. "It's got to be the military, or the Star City government."
"Do you think the military or the government doesn't have a few powerful Awakeners? We can see them, but does that mean they can't see us?"
The man nearly tucked his head between his legs. At a loss for words, he could only say, "You see farther than I do, Master Gao. I was too naive."
Gao Shengjie's group immediately took cover, hiding in the thick undergrowth. Whether or not anyone aboard the helicopter, so far away, could see this area, Gao Shengjie had given the order, and no one dared disobey him.
The helicopter clearly wasn't there for them, though. It hadn't stopped in the air; after circling for a moment, it descended toward some other area.
Only after the helicopter descended out of sight did the men emerge from the undergrowth. They all stared in the direction it had gone.
By their estimate, the helicopter had landed less than ten kilometers away in a straight line. It was probably somewhere at the foot of Mount Dajin.
Gao Shengjie waved, and one of his trusted men immediately understood. He took out their hand-drawn map of the surrounding area and spread it on the grass.
The men worked together with admirable coordination. Some spread out to keep watch and prevent anyone from sneaking up on them.
Gao Shengjie and several of his closest subordinates gathered around the map to study it.
