Divine Doctor An became renowned throughout the Black Green Mountain Range for medical skill described as bordering on the divine, though his equally widespread reputation for exorbitant fees preceded him. In his earlier career, he allowed the “Divine Doctor” title to inflate his confidence and promised to cure Er Shi—a man suffering from more than a hundred unusual Curses—in exchange for an immense payment. Er Shi died, and his followers nearly exterminated the An family; An survived only after bluffing that Lord Han protected him, a claim Lord Han later made effectively true by appearing in Mo Village and frightening the attackers away. 57 239
