Background and History
Wu Xiaokai grew up in the East Barrens, where he hunted Demon Beasts and trained in Body Refinement from the age of three. An Academy teacher encountered him while he was hunting and brought him to Nanzhou Academy as a special recruit. There, he met Ye Qiu at the Gravity Tower; their shared cultivation path led them to agree to train together 9 23.
His family’s resources and strength initially surprise Ye Qiu. Wu Xiaokai’s grandfather is Wu Feng, the Lord of East Barrens, and the family descends from the Barbarian Race. Wu gives Ye Qiu valuable herbs, demon materials, and Demon Blood Jade, insisting that his family’s status does not change their friendship 56 57.
Wu Xiaokai later joins the Central Province Grand Selection. After Great Dao Academy’s treatment of Ye Qiu, he publicly renounces his discipleship and joins Mount Mei with several companions. He reunites with Ye Qiu during Mount Mei’s confrontation with the Academy 86 279 307.

Wu Xiaokai is sociable, boastful, and quick to tease his friends. He celebrates his own cultivation gains, then reacts with open jealousy when Ye Qiu surpasses them. In danger, he remains loyal and resourceful. He refuses to abandon Ye Qiu during an ambush, uses a smoke bomb to help them escape, and later turns stolen Demon Beast eggs into a trap for their pursuers 20 130 131.
