Background

Konan grew up as a war orphan alongside Yahiko and Nagato. The three depended on one another through the conflict in Amegakure and were taught by Jiraiya before he left them to survive on their own. Afterward, they founded Akatsuki to pursue peace in the ninja world. 108 178

Among the three founders, Konan is regarded as the most perceptive and best suited to planning and organizational work. Yahiko and Nagato later cite these qualities when proposing that she study Konoha's systems for Akatsuki's future reconstruction. 139

Personality

Konan is deeply protective of Yahiko and Nagato, repeatedly placing herself between them and danger. During the Amegakure battle, she shields the injured Nagato while supporting Yahiko against an overwhelming force of enemy shinobi. 110

Despite her combat ability, she is initially shy, modest, and easily flustered in unfamiliar or intimate situations. Her first medical treatment by Shinji embarrasses her enough to accuse him of being a pervert, though she later accepts his professionalism and trusts him to continue her care. 128 129 132

Amegakure Ambush

Konan is captured by Hanzō during Danzo's conspiracy against Akatsuki and used to force Nagato into killing Yahiko. Yahiko instead offers his own life to save her, but Shinji intervenes before he can impale himself on Nagato's kunai. 107 108

When Nagato rescues her, Hanzō surrounds them with Explosive Tags. Konan is separated from Nagato in the ensuing chaos, while Nagato suffers severe injuries to his legs. 108 109

During the continuing battle, Konan uses Paper Shuriken to protect Nagato and support Yahiko. Her chakra and paper supplies are gradually exhausted as Amegakure shinobi overwhelm them. 110

Recovery and Akatsuki's Losses

Konan survives a penetrating abdominal wound inflicted by the masked man and wakes in Akatsuki's medical room under Shinji's care. Her immediate concern is whether Yahiko and Nagato survived. 128

After recovering, she joins Yahiko and Nagato at the graves of their fallen Akatsuki comrades. The three mourn the destruction of their organization and blame themselves for being unable to protect their companions. 136

Journey to Konoha
