Background / History
Ayanokoji enrolled in Class D after escaping the White Room, an institution that subjected children to extreme competitive education in an attempt to produce geniuses. He was the fourth batch's first successful product and remained the benchmark against whom later White Room students were measured. 169 252
At school, he initially concealed his abilities behind an awkward, expressionless persona. He scored exactly fifty points in every entrance-exam subject, deliberately placed tenth in a swimming race, and avoided revealing his physical strength. 16 47
During the Uninhabited Island Exam, Chabashira Sae pressured both Ayanokoji and Kamio Tatsuya to act against Class C. Ayanokoji began gathering intelligence outside Class D's camp and later identified Class B's leader, Shiranami Chihiro, through the students' behavior. 83
After Sakayanagi revealed his White Room background to Kamio, Ayanokoji's father arrived to force him back into the institution. Learning that Matsuo—the butler who helped him enroll—and Matsuo's son had died because of the escape did not make him withdraw; instead, Ayanokoji resolved to remain at school, make friends, and disprove his father. 169 174
Ryuen's attempt to expose his identity led to a rooftop confrontation. Ayanokoji defeated Ishizaki, Yamada, and Ryuen despite being surrounded, while having prepared a camera to record the incident. 174 175
In his second year, he and Kamio formed an alliance against acting chairman Tsukishiro. He later confronted the consequences of Matsuo's fate when Nanase's hostility toward him was traced to her connection with the Matsuo family. 222 273
Appearance
Ayanokoji is usually described as expressionless and difficult to read. His physique is lean and proportionate rather than visibly bulky, but his upper arms, back, endurance, and explosive power are conspicuously developed. 5 16
- Maintains an almost unchanged, deadpan expression. 5 97
- Has well-proportioned musculature rather than the exaggerated build of athletes such as Sudo or Koenji. 16
- Possesses unusually high physical attributes despite claiming not to train regularly. 197
Personality
Ayanokoji is calm, evasive, and extremely difficult for others to interpret. Kamio repeatedly observes that he does not visibly react with joy, anger, panic, or fear, leading him to regard Ayanokoji as emotionally deficient rather than merely gloomy. 71 97
Despite this detachment, Ayanokoji gradually demonstrates concern for others. He encourages Hirata to confront his past, forms a study group with classmates, sees Amanawa off after her expulsion, and expresses guilt over Matsuo's fate while refusing to regret his decision to attend school. 137 168 271 273
He prefers to hide his true capabilities and avoid unnecessary attention, but he will act decisively when threatened with expulsion or when an opponent endangers his goals. 16 83 174
Abilities & Skills
Physical Ability
Ayanokoji possesses exceptional strength, agility, stamina, and combat control.

- He defeated Ishizaki and Yamada in under a minute before overpowering Ryuen's three-man assault. 174
- He lifted and slammed Yamada Albert, then rendered him unconscious with a strike to the solar plexus. 174
Combat Technique
Ayanokoji fights with precise timing, balance, and practical responses to multiple attackers.
- Countered Yamada's punch while blocking Ishizaki's kick, despite standing on one leg. 174

- Escaped Yamada's grapple by kicking Ryuen away, lifting Yamada, and slamming him onto the ground. 174
- Defeated Ryuen's group while remaining composed and without suffering significant visible damage. 174 175
Strategic Analysis
Ayanokoji excels at observing behavior, identifying incentives, and withholding information until it is useful.
- Deduced Class B's island-exam leader, Shiranami Chihiro, by noticing other students' unconscious attention toward her. 83
- Recognized that Kamio might leak his deductions and declined to reveal his speculation about Class C's leader. 83
