A Fierce Beast's strength is determined first by its species and then by its age; judging one without considering its age is explicitly considered unreliable. Individual species may change dramatically as they age. 1

Forms and Intelligence

Fierce Beasts have no single appearance. Recorded forms include leopard-like Chujian, the horned Zhuhuai, a toad-headed creature that later revealed a lizard-like body, and the Women's Country's distorted guardian beast with an obese ox body and human-like face. 1 10 25 40

• Some may possess humanoid traits or assume humanoid-like forms. 1 23 25
• The Blood Soil Forest creature bore an unusually complex aura with a trace of human scent rather than the aura of an ordinary Fierce Beast. 25
• Fierce Beasts may be strong enough to intimidate other beasts: the phantom of Qiong Qi caused ancient Fierce Beasts within a hundred miles to flee. 25

Physical Power and Resilience

Large Fierce Beasts can withstand attacks that would devastate ordinary opponents.

• The Zhuhuai ignored Wu Wang's ice mountain and ice spears, which failed to draw blood even from its eyes. 10
• Its roar generated a visible shockwave, cracked the ground, evaporated a lake, and preceded an assault of massive fireballs. 10
• The Women's Country's guardian beast deflected arrows capable of piercing stone and metal with its hide. 41
• General Xiong San ultimately subdued the Blood Soil Forest Fierce Beast through close-quarters force, exposing its long lizard-like body before repeatedly smashing it into the ground. 25

Elemental and Soul-Based Techniques

• Women's Country guardian beast — wielded a staff capable of releasing wind, fire, and lightning; it also used a soul-damaging technique that affected Ling Xiaolan and severely injured Ji Mo's Nascent Soul. 41
• Qiong Qi's vital-blood phantom — its silent roar produced a visible shockwave and overwhelming pressure despite being formed from a single drop of blood. 25

Wu Wang emphasizes that even powerful large Fierce Beasts have exploitable weaknesses if they cannot kill their opponents immediately. 41

Blood Soil Forest Fierce Beast	23 25	A fast, toad-headed creature later shown to possess a lizard-like body. It was particularly dangerous to Spirit Cultivation cultivators but was killed by General Xiong San.

Role in the Northern Plains

Fierce Beasts are tied to the Northern Plains' so-called “Star God's Blessings.” Wu Wang witnesses a celestial mechanism in which beasts bound in starlight are sent away through a rotating disc after priests pray to it. 11

The Bear Hug Tribe initially treats the Zhuhuai's arrival as a divine gift, but its attack destroys the Royal Court, kills thousands, and forces Wu Wang to challenge the priests' understanding of the blessing. 10 12

• Fierce Beast attacks can become opportunities for clans to acquire resources; the Zhuhuai's death leaves behind a vein of Star Ore. 14
• The Bear Hug Tribe later prepares its livestock and grain reserves to receive future Fierce Beast “blessings.” 15
• Xiong Han's patrol encounters a thousand-year Fierce Beast, which he kills alone before dragging further Fierce Beasts back to camp. 15

Role in the Women's Country

The Women's Country's guardian beast is sustained by the souls of children raised in the underground palace as Sacrificers. The children are denied names and citizenship, then sacrificed once their souls mature at fifteen. 40

Fengge's rebellion targets this system rather than the Queen. She leads the effort to free the Sacrificers and kill the beast, declaring that the Women's Country must determine its own future. 40

Killing the guardian beast, however, places the country in immediate danger: it is the core of the protective formation, and its destruction causes the 108 petrified border beasts to begin awakening. 41 42
