Background

Ji Mo belongs to a family whose ancestors fought Fierce Beasts alongside the Human Emperor and defended the Human Domain's frontier. He considers himself a comparatively leisurely descendant burdened by that legacy, and openly admits to seeking enjoyment before any “glorious end.” 22

He is trained by Xu Mu, a middle-aged scholar associated with the Four Seas Pavilion. Ji Mo participates in the Pavilion's dangerous Human Emperor trials alongside Ling Xiaolan, though the true terms and risks of those trials are initially withheld from him. 26 38 42

Northern Plains Delegation

Ji Mo first encounters Wu Wang while Wu Wang is disguised as a local hunter named Hou Di. He is part of a Human Domain group sent to contact the Bear Hug and Great Wave Tribes, initially seeking discussions and trade. Though he is teased over his interest in Northern Plains women, he remains courteous and later recognizes Wu Wang at the Bear Hug Tribe's Royal Court. 20 21 22

During the delegation's visit, Ji Mo becomes Wu Wang's main conversational partner and helps smooth over the other cultivators' hostility. Wu Wang comes to regard him as a decent man with principles despite his shameless reputation. 22

After a Fierce Beast attack devastates the delegation, Ji Mo is critically injured and brought to the Bear Hug Tribe. Once healed, he refuses to abandon Ling Xiaolan and the other survivors, returning to the danger zone with Wu Wang and General Xiong San. 23 24

Women's Country Trial

Ji Mo and Ling Xiaolan later arrive in the Women's Country for another Four Seas Pavilion trial. There, Gan Fan uses a Soul-Bewildering Pill, vocal mimicry, and Ji Mo's reputation to frame him for exploiting local women. Ji Mo is publicly hung from the city wall, his Nascent Soul sealed and his name disgraced. 34 35 37

Wu Wang's arrival and the victims' testimony establish Ji Mo's innocence. Ji Mo then challenges Fengge to recover his dignity, but is swiftly defeated. 35

Ji Mo subsequently helps investigate the Women's Country's crisis. Although he joins Ling Xiaolan in an attempt to drug Wu Wang and keep him from the coming danger, he ultimately supports Wu Wang's revelations about the country's sacrificial foundation. 39 40 41

When the released crown threatens to awaken 108 Great Wilderness Fierce Beasts, Ji Mo gives up his Human Emperor trial and asks Xu Mu for help. Xu Mu restrains the crown while Ji Mo returns to the battle. 42

Godhood Project

Following the crisis, Ji Mo works with Wu Wang and Ling Xiaolan to assist the Women's Country's attempt to gather faith and create godhood for its Queen. He helps with practical experiments involving faith power, including the creation of a self-heating hot pot. 43 44
