Background / History
Family and Previous Life
Tang San’s father, Tang Hao, was a leading talent of the Clear Sky Sect. His mother was a hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor who had taken human form. Aoyao’s diary also identifies Tang San as someone who brought the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record and hidden-weapon techniques from a previous life 24 26 99.
At six years old, Tang San shared a bed with Xiao Wu, a hundred-thousand-year Soft Bone Rabbit in human form. They later separated while he trained with Tang Hao and she returned to the Star Dou Great Forest. Their reunion coincided with Spirit Hall’s operation against hundred-thousand-year soul beasts, during which Xiao Wu sacrificed herself for him. Tang San subsequently gathered the materials needed to resurrect her 25.
Founding the Tang Sect
After acquiring Xiao Wu’s sixth ring, Tang San recruited the four single-attribute clans that had been left vulnerable by the Clear Sky Sect’s withdrawal from the world. Their complementary specialties supplied the Tang Sect’s initial organization and production base 99.
| Clan | Contribution to the Tang Sect |
|---|---|
| Strength Clan | Forging, equipment manufacture, and mass production of hidden weapons 99 |
| Defense Clan | Defenses, construction, and strongholds 99 |
| Speed Clan | Intelligence, reconnaissance, and communication 99 |
| Breaking Clan | Combat, medicine-making, and healing 99 |
Ning Fengzhi’s purchase of hidden weapons for the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect provided the Tang Sect with its initial capital. Sales to support-type soul masters helped the new sect expand 100.
Ascension and Continental Legacy
Tang San attracted the attention of both the Asura God and the Sea God. Slaughter City served as the Asura God’s successor-selection ground, while the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud opened the way to the Sea God’s Nine Trials. He ultimately inherited both god positions 132 133 143.
During the Battle of the Two Gods, Tang San fought Bibi Dong, the Rakshasa God, and Qian Renxue, the Angel God. His victory over Spirit Hall helped establish Shrek Academy as the continent’s foremost academy. Shrek’s entrance statue, Poseidon Pavilion, Sea God Lake, and Sea God’s Fate event all reflect his lasting influence 90.
Aoyao’s diary presents a much darker account of that legacy. It attributes Slaughter City’s destruction to Tang San’s use of Blood Swan Kiss and argues that eliminating Spirit Hall removed a major restraint on Evil Soul Masters. This causal interpretation is Aoyao’s assessment, which the diary readers readily accept 132 133.
The Tang Sect’s Restricted Inheritance
According to Aoyao, Tang San weakened the Tang Sect’s inheritance after becoming a god. The diary treats these restrictions, alongside the rise of soul tools, as major causes of the sect’s decline 100.
| Inheritance | Change described by Aoyao |
|---|---|
| Mysterious Heaven Skill | Lost its internal-energy cultivation, innate soul-power improvement, and meridian-opening functions; retained basic meditation and recovery 100 |
| Supporting secret arts | Remained available, but their power ceiling fell because the core cultivation method had been weakened 100 |
| Poison scripture | Deleted, removing poison attacks, poisoned hidden weapons, and the detoxification system 100 |
| High-grade hidden weapons | Blueprints and manufacturing methods were removed for weapons such as Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus, Torrential Rain Pear Blossom Needles, Peacock Plume, and Guanyin’s Tear 100 |
| Lower-grade hidden weapons | Weapons including Sand-Shooting Shadow, the Godly Zhuge Crossbow, and Dragon Whisker Needles remained 100 |
Appearance
- Clothing: Wears blue during his appearance in the Divine Realm 19.
- Expressions: Initially appears relaxed and smiling; interference with his plans brings out furrowed brows, a darkened expression, and sharp, threatening looks 3 19 73.
Personality
Tang San is confident, calculating, and determined to control events in the lower realm. At his first direct appearance, he believes everyone is following the course he has laid out. When his surveillance fails, his foremost concern is whether Huo Yuhao’s fortune—and therefore his ten-thousand-year plan—remains intact 3.
He reacts fiercely to interference. The loss of a substantial portion of the Child of Destiny’s fortune prompts threats to make the unknown culprit wish for death. Nevertheless, he initially responds to uncertainty with careful investigation rather than immediately losing composure 3 19.
With Xiao Wu, he is affectionate and attentive, readily understanding her concerns and reassuring her about their daughter’s safety. This tenderness contrasts with Aoyao’s account of his manipulation of Wang Dong’er and the Three-Eyed Golden Lion, creating a sharp divide between his stated protectiveness and the experiences of those subjected to his plans 4 25 73.
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
Tang San possesses the Blue Silver Emperor and Clear Sky Hammer martial souls 98.
- The Blue Silver Emperor is described as nearly comparable to the Clear Sky Hammer, unlike ordinary Blue Silver Grass 21.
- Er Ming’s sacrifice supplied a soul ring for the Clear Sky Hammer 118.
- His success with these martial souls does not establish that ordinary Blue Silver Grass users can safely reproduce his cultivation path 21 99.
Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record
Tang San brought this collection of cultivation methods and hidden-weapon knowledge from his previous life 99.
- Mysterious Heaven Skill: His original version cultivated internal energy, increased innate soul power, opened meridians, and integrated with soul power 100.
- Supporting arts: Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon, Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, Purple Demon Eye, and Mysterious Jade Hand belong to the Tang Sect’s preserved secret arts 100.
- Poison and hidden-weapon knowledge: The original inheritance included a poison scripture and weapons capable of threatening Titled Douluos or gods, according to Aoyao 100.
Purple Demon Eye
His Purple Demon Eye advanced to the Mustard Seed realm after he consumed Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew 89.
- The herb strengthened his mental abilities as well as the technique 89.
- Its later inherited form was limited by the weakening of the Mysterious Heaven Skill 100.
Dual Divine Authority and Perception
Tang San holds the Sea God and Asura God positions and serves as an enforcer of the Douluo Divine Realm 116 124.
- Ordinarily, he can inspect Douluo Star and sense unusual disturbances there 3 124.
- He can monitor the Child of Destiny’s fortune even when he cannot clearly observe events in the lower realm 3 19 73.
- A persistent gray haze blocks his detailed perception of Douluo Star 3 73.
- Destruction’s scrutiny and objections further impede his investigations 19 73.
Divine Consciousness and Restrictions
Aoyao identifies a sealed strand of Tang San’s divine consciousness within Wang Dong’er as her otherwise undetectable third martial soul 75.
- It powers a bodily restriction that repels anyone attempting intimate contact and jolts that person’s soul 75.
- Tang San controls its release; Huo Yuhao would need god-level power and his approval before the restriction permitted intimacy with Tang Wutong 75.
- Aoyao also attributes the sealing of his daughter’s memories and power to Tang San 4.
Resurrection
Tang San has restored individuals who sacrificed themselves for him.
- Gathered the requirements to resurrect Xiao Wu after her sacrifice 25.
- Revived Er Ming after ascending to the Divine Realm 118.
- In Aoyao’s account of the planned future, resurrected Huo Yun’er as leverage over Huo Yuhao 30.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud — Received from the Heaven Dou imperial family; its recognition qualified him for the Sea God’s Nine Trials 143.
- Eight Spider Lances — External soul bone strengthened by the immortal herbs he consumed at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 89.
- Octagonal mysterious ice grass and infernal delicate apricot — Consumed to improve his constitution and gain elemental and poison resistance 89.
- Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew — Consumed to strengthen his mental abilities and Purple Demon Eye 89.
- Blood Swan Kiss — An immortal herb he cast into Slaughter City’s blood pool. It amplified existing poisons and viruses exponentially, producing the destructive mixed poison described in Aoyao’s diary 132.
- Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record — The central cultivation and technical inheritance upon which he founded the Tang Sect 99.
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Father; trained Tang San during his separation from Xiao Wu 24 25.
- Blue Silver Emperor — Mother; a hundred-thousand-year soul beast who took human form 26.
- Tang Chen — Great-grandfather; nearly inherited the Asura God position before falling victim to the Rakshasa God’s schemes 132.
- Xiao Wu — Wife; sacrificed herself as his sixth ring and was later resurrected. As the Asura Sword Sheath, she shares his divine power 25 73 133.
- Tang Wutong / Wang Dong’er — Daughter and her sealed identity. Wang Dong’er has no memories of Tang San and comes to hate him after learning about his plans 4 75 118.
- Tang Wulin — Son. Aoyao’s future account states that Tang San places the Golden Dragon King’s Divine Core in his newborn body 133.
- Huo Yuhao — Child of Destiny and central target of his plan. Tang San explicitly intends to make him obedient; Aoyao describes marriage and family-related leverage as tools of that control 3 30 51.
- Three-Eyed Golden Lion / Wang Qiu’er — Target of his scheme to obtain the soul beasts’ fortune. She rejects the prospect of becoming part of his daughter 4 5 25.
- Niu Tian and Tai Tan — Caretakers of Wang Dong’er and executors of his arrangements. Tai Tan is the revived Er Ming, whose sacrifice previously aided Tang San 25 118.
- Dai Mubai — Former close brother and fellow original Shrek Seven Devil. Their contact becomes infrequent after ascension; Dai Mubai approaches him about changes to the Ice God position 116.
- Destruction God King — Political rival who repeatedly challenges and monitors him. Their disagreement centers on Divine Realm expansion and Tang San’s insistence on preserving his plan 3 73 133.
- Tang Ya — A later Tang Sect master who initially reveres him as its founding ancestor. The diary’s revelations gradually turn her admiration into resentment and open denunciation 5 100 121.
- Rong Nianbing — A valuable Divine Realm fighter whom Tang San is reluctant to lose; Tang San seeks him out after concluding that he has few alternatives 181.
Story Role / Major Arcs
The Ten-Thousand-Year Plan
Tang San’s stated ambition is to become the absolute ruler of Douluo Star and then the entire Divine Realm. Huo Yuhao’s fortune is central to that ambition 3.
Aoyao’s diary describes the following intended sequence. These disclosures concern the course Tang San wants events to follow, not a sequence already completed in the altered present storyline.
| Component | Intended outcome described in the diary |
|---|---|
| Wang Dong’er’s identity | Seal his daughter’s memories and power, place her at Shrek Academy disguised as a boy, and arrange for her to share Huo Yuhao’s room 4 |
| The Auspicious Beast’s contact with Huo Yuhao | Spark her interest in humanity and place part of Tang Wutong within her; she enters the human world as Wang Qiu’er 5 25 |
| Qiankun Asking Love Valley | Descend through an avatar and beat Huo Yuhao under the pretext of clarifying his feelings; Wang Dong’er subsequently falls into a deep sleep 51 |
| Wang Qiu’er’s sacrifice | Obtain the soul beasts’ fortune through the Three-Eyed Golden Lion’s sacrifice to Huo Yuhao 5 25 |
| Tang Wutong’s restoration | Merge Wang Dong’er and Wang Qiu’er back into Tang Wutong 25 51 |
| Huo Yun’er’s resurrection | Entrust her to Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing, creating further leverage over Huo Yuhao after his ascension 30 |
| Tang Wutong’s divine inheritance | Bind her to the Second-Level Butterfly God position through a blessing arranged at birth 133 |
Loss of Control over Douluo Star
- Initial obstruction: Tang San discovers that gray mist has blocked his view of Douluo Star. He remains reassured while Huo Yuhao’s fortune appears unchanged and intends to hide the problem from Destruction 3.
- Fortune loss: He later detects that a large portion of the Child of Destiny’s fortune has vanished, confirming that his plan has suffered a serious disruption 19.
- Continued uncertainty: The haze persists. Tang San senses further upheaval around Huo Yuhao but cannot identify its nature; he tells Xiao Wu that their daughter is safe 73.
- Time pressure: He notes that one Divine Realm day equals one lower-realm year, leaving events below ample time to change between his investigations 73 116.
- Divine developments: Dai Mubai reports a change involving the Ice God position. Later, Tang San reluctantly goes to Rong Nianbing’s residence while considering the loss of a powerful fighter 116 181.
Exposure through the Diary Copies
Aoyao’s diary turns Tang San’s hidden arrangements into information available to the Diary Copy owners. Wang Dong’er rejects the future assigned to her, while the Three-Eyed Golden Lion seeks a way to avoid becoming his daughter 4.
Tang Ya initially defends him as a righteous founding ancestor. Revelations about his family, his treatment of the Tang Sect’s inheritance, and his apparent failure to protect the sect erode that loyalty. By Chapter 121, she openly declares that he does not deserve the respect she gave him 5 26 100 101 121.
Opposition also extends to the Ice Empress and Snow Empress. They regard alignment with Aoyao against Tang San as their route forward in a Divine Realm where soul beasts are forbidden from becoming gods 168.
Future Divine Realm Conflict Described by Aoyao
- Destruction’s expansion policy clashes with Tang San’s conservative position, eventually leading to a coup and Tang San’s imprisonment 133.
- After the Golden Dragon King escapes, Tang San kills him and places his Divine Core within the newborn Tang Wulin 133.
- Destruction and the Goddess of Life sacrifice themselves to repair the Divine Realm. Tang Wulin and Gu Yuena later inherit their positions 133 134.
- Aoyao portrays the eventual rise of Tang San’s children, descendants, and Huo Yuhao as making the Divine Realm overwhelmingly dominated by the Tang family 133.
