Ascending to the Pinnacle of Life

As time passed, night fell. Here in Bilgewater, a free port at the southernmost end of the Serpent Isles, the major bouts of chaos had gradually died down, but smaller brawls were still going on, spreading through streets all across the city... Those with malicious intent, old grudges, or recent grievances were fighting for their lives in the streets and alleys, using all manner of weapons: firearms, bombs, swords, and more.

And this,

was what made Bilgewater unique. There were no laws or actual rulers here, let alone such institutions as police or an army!!

Though the city was still far from peaceful, even amid all this chaos, almost every Bilgewater local had heard about their city and the several incredible major events that had taken place over the last two days!

First,

the former Pirate King of Bilgewater, the legendary pirate Gangplank, who had effectively controlled this free port city, had apparently been schemed against and blown to pieces by a bounty hunter named Miss Fortune, Sarah? At any rate, many Bilgewater locals had seen the Pirate King and his flagship, the Dreadway, catch fire in full view of everyone, out in the deep water beyond the docks, before finally exploding and sinking to the bottom of the sea...

Of course, there were also rumors that Gangplank hadn't actually died, but had somehow escaped with his life. He'd still been maimed in that terrible explosion, though, and was now laying low and recovering from his injuries, too afraid to show his face?

Regardless, everyone knew Gangplank had lost all his authority and that his era was over... But who would control the city's future was still a mystery.
