"Kurama!"
What a familiar word!
No one had called it by that name in years, perhaps thousands of years.
The last time someone called it that, it was probably Six Paths's dad.
Its Tailed Beasts brothers usually just called it Nine-Tailed Demon Fox.
As for the humans outside, they always called it demon fox, natural disaster, and later even downgraded it to a beast.
"How do you know that name!"
The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's tail began to wag, exactly like Manji's flustered reaction when caught stealing catnip, as if its secrets had been exposed.
Kurama was the name Sage of Six Paths had given it. For thousands of years, the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox had never told any human.
"Sage of Six Paths told me in a dream."
Uchiha Nan said casually. He couldn't possibly tell the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox that he knew from watching anime.
"You're spouting nonsense!!"
The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox immediately started cursing. Could Sage of Six Paths really have appeared in Uchiha Nan's dream?
The Tailed Beasts had been trapped inside humans as war tools for so many years, and Sage of Six Paths hadn't made a move. He must have been long dead by now.
"Believe it or not. Otherwise, how do you think I'd know your name is Kurama, and I also know One-Tailed is Shukaku, Two-Tailed is Matatabi."
Uchiha Nan rattled off the names of all nine Tailed Beasts. His confident demeanor made the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox start to doubt.
The old man Sage of Six Paths isn't dead, is he?
Then why didn't he come to save me all these years?
I always treated him like a father!
Dad, love me again!
The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox prayed inwardly, hoping its father Sage of Six Paths would rescue it from its suffering. Unfortunately, no miracle occurred.
The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox sighed slightly. It hadn't stopped praying for Sage of Six Paths to save it over the years, but it was useless.
However, the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox was starting to believe Uchiha Nan. The Tailed Beasts only revealed their names to those they approved of, and Uchiha Nan clearly couldn't have gained the approval of all the Tailed Beasts.
In the entire ninja world, only Sage of Six Paths could have told Uchiha Nan the names of all the Tailed Beasts.
"What did the old man Sage of Six Paths tell you?"
As everyone knows, foxes are incredibly curious. The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox couldn't help but ask.
"Sage of Six Paths said I am the savior of the ninja world and will liberate all Tailed Beasts in the future!"
The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox suddenly leaned close to Uchiha Nan, looking into his pupils.
Those eyes are wrong!
Sage of Six Paths had also told the Tailed Beasts a prophecy about the future:
"There will be a boy with blue eyes, who will call out the names of the nine Tailed Beasts with a smile."
Uchiha Nan's pupils were black, and now they had even turned red. They were nowhere near blue.
"What are you doing!!"
Uchiha Nan yelped in surprise and stumbled back a few steps.
So, the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox told Uchiha Nan about the prophecy Sage of Six Paths had spoken of in the past.
"Times change, and prophecies change too. If Sage of Six Paths could truly predict the future so accurately, his two sons wouldn't have ended up fighting each other."
Uchiha Nan said nonchalantly. It was truly pathetic that a Sage believed in the prophecies of a few Toads but didn't trust his eldest son's abilities.
From Kaguya down to Sage of Six Paths, the Sage of Six Paths family failed miserably in the test of raising children.
"The old man Sage of Six Paths told you even this?"
The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox was somewhat surprised and now believed Uchiha Nan's words for the most part. Such family scandals could only be known by people of the same generation, and it was difficult for the old man Sage of Six Paths to have been willing to speak of them.
Even as the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, who considered himself Sage of Six Paths's godson, he found the disgrace of sibling rivalry too embarrassing to casually discuss with outsiders.
It was better that their nine god-sons, the Tailed Beasts, were sensible. Although they sometimes quarreled, they never had the thought of killing each other.
"Speak. What do you want from me?"
The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox lay down, crossing its front paws and resting its head on them, assuming a comfortable position as if about to fall asleep.
Uchiha Nan must have come to ask for something!
Human nature hadn't changed much over the years. They only came when they needed something.
I have to put on a show!
"Of course, it's to give Kurama your freedom!"
The Uchiha Nan skillfully painted a picture of future success, his sales instincts from his past life kicking in! Even when asking for a favor, he presented himself as someone offering help.
"Hmm?"
The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox immediately perked up upon hearing this, lifting its foxy head, its eyes filled with longing. Who wouldn't want a choice? Who would want to be confined in a dark room? It yearned to roll around comfortably in lush forests!
"You want to let me out?"
"Of course!"
"Tailed Beasts are free and should not be enslaved and exploited by humans."
Uchiha Nan said to the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox with a smile.
"However, I can't do that right now!"
"Because I'm not the Hokage!"
"Only the Hokage has the authority to deal with Tailed Beasts."
Uchiha Nan put on a troubled expression. He truly wanted to release the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, but the circumstances wouldn't allow it. Uchiha Nan's gaze drifted towards the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, and he could see how desperately it craved freedom.
"Do you speak the truth?"
"Naturally, it's the truth!"
"I'll guarantee it in the name of the Sage of Six Paths."
Uchiha Nan smiled and began to swear fluently. Even if he couldn't release the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox in the future, it would be the Sage of Six Paths whose reputation would be tarnished.
"Then I'll help you become the Hokage!"
The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox decided to take a gamble. It yearned for freedom too much. Being confined in this dark, lightless room, with nothing, was simply too unbearable. It didn't know how it had endured all these years.
"It's a deal!"
"Good!"
"Once I become the Hokage, you'll be free after Mito Uzumaki dies!"
The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's eyes widened as it looked at Uchiha Nan. As expected, the inherently evil Uchiha, tricking it again! It still had to wait for Mito Uzumaki to die?
"You want me to wait for Mito Uzumaki to die?"
"Of course. Mito Uzumaki is a founding member of Konoha. Even if I become the Hokage, I can't just kill Mito Uzumaki to release you."
"I'm a kind person and can't stand to see people die."
Uchiha Nan grinned, revealing his pearly whites, putting on a compassionate act. Seeing the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox still hesitating, he continued:
"Look on the bright side. Mito Uzumaki is already so old. How many more years can she live?"
"Her days are numbered. Just bear with it for a while."
The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's foxy eyes darted around. It was still hesitant, contemplating whether to believe Uchiha Nan's nonsense. Its fox instincts told it that Uchiha Nan was just blowing smoke.
"If you don't believe me, fine. Then let Mito Uzumaki defeat me and become the Hokage."
"Konoha is probably already preparing to find another young Nine-Tailed Demon Fox jinchuriki from the Uzumaki Clan."
"Mito Uzumaki can start implementing this as soon as she takes the stage."
Uchiha Nan sighed and made as if to leave.
I had a tooth implant today. I originally thought the doctor covered my eyes to block the light, but I was wrong. It was to prevent me from being scared. In the middle, there was a cutting saw, a drill, a hammer, and scissors. I could tell from the sounds; if I had seen those things being put into my mouth, I probably would have fainted from fright. But no matter how tough it gets, the readers shouldn't suffer. I'll write through the night. I'm still asking for monthly votes. This time, I won't beg, it hurts too much!
