Background / History

Before Tobirama Senju’s death, Nan presented himself as an unusually village-loyal Uchiha and received Tobirama’s endorsement as a promising candidate for cultivation. Privately, he focused on gaining enough strength to survive Tobirama, Hiruzen Sarutobi, and the First Great Ninja War. He served in the Uchiha Military Police Force and accumulated considerable prestige within his clan. 20 93 362

Following Tobirama’s death, Nan abandoned his former persona. He defeated Kagami Uchiha, fabricated a justification against him, announced his intention to remove Uchiha Tomita, and openly pursued both the clan headship and the Hokage position. 15 16

Tomita ultimately ceded the clan headship after Nan awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan. Nan’s casual strike later breached Konoha’s defensive barrier, alarming both villagers and rival clan heads. 20

Nan became Hokage through his military record and financial influence. He redirected Konoha toward industry, technology, education, commerce, and cultural production rather than military power alone. 48 81

Appearance

Nan is an Uchiha whose combat appearance is defined by his dōjutsu and later by Sage Mode’s visible markings. 3 155 177

Personality

Nan is ambitious, calculating, and highly pragmatic. He treats political alliances, economic aid, propaganda, technology, and even humanitarian projects as instruments for expanding Konoha’s power. He is willing to manipulate allies and enemies alike, including coercing Tobirama Senju into research labor and exploiting disputes in other villages. 83 94 130 185 243

He also possesses a reformist vision: he opposes the view that ninjas are disposable tools, argues that ordinary people and ninjas should both benefit from development, and seeks to turn ninjutsu into a productive force. 87 149 345

Despite his ruthlessness, Nan is attentive to Konoha’s prosperity and enjoys domestic life with his family. His generosity toward children and civilians substantially strengthens his public popularity. 120 171 350
