After working all afternoon, Uchiha Nan and Uchiha Tomita finally stamped all sorts of forged receipts in advance. Now all they had to do was wait for the money to arrive.
Afterward, Uchiha Nan rested his chin in his hands as he discussed Konoha's future development with Uchiha Tomita. He wanted to hear Uchiha Tomita's thoughts.
After all, Uchiha Nan had no one else he could rely on right now. His only foundation was the Uchiha.
Uchiha Tomita was considered one of the Uchiha's outstanding talents. He was highly gifted in both combat and managing the clan; otherwise, he could never have shouldered the entire Uchiha after Madara Uchiha left.
After taking office, Uchiha Tomita had also done his utmost to teach him how to become an outstanding Clan Head, so Uchiha Nan respected him greatly.
"I think the most important thing now is to recuperate and rebuild. The priority should be shinobi. And missions."
"."
Uchiha Nan listened attentively.
Mm, very traditional—still the same old approach. Train as many shinobi as possible, strengthen Konoha's power, and ask the Daimyo for more funding.
Being at someone else's mercy, huh!
A standard shinobi mindset. Still, he could not blame him. In this shitty worldview, shinobi were supposed to temper themselves, grow stronger, then take missions to support themselves.
Another victim poisoned by the theory of shinobi as tools.
What Uchiha Nan wanted to do was far more than that. Industry, agriculture, commerce, entertainment—he wanted a hand in every sector, turning Konoha into a giant trust that monopolized resources and seized profits.
With overwhelming economic strength, combined with cultural influence, Konoha could continuously export its universal values.
If Konoha grew powerful, the other four shinobi villages would inevitably join forces to attack it.
Since Konoha's own strength could not crush the entire world, then he would use another method to rule it. He could not seriously wait for Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke to suddenly emerge, could he?
Of course, the most important issue was ideology.
The First Hokage's overly simplistic ideas were far too backward. They simply could not serve as Konoha's guiding ideology. He ought to go study Rabbit Country's nine-year compulsory education, with special emphasis on politics and history.
"An outstanding organization must have a lofty pursuit. Konoha's pursuit, naturally, is peace in the shinobi world."
"On that foundation, we need to develop our military, politics, economy, and culture. Konoha's military strength is beyond doubt, but its influence in politics, economics, and culture lags far behind."
"The first problem Konoha needs to solve is its economic problem. To overtake on a curve, shinobi and Daimyo have no future fighting over land. They've been ahead for thousands of years."
"So we must establish industry, develop technology, and develop productive forces."
Uchiha Nan spoke at length. Talking politics was a basic skill for people from Rabbit Country. Every night in university men's dormitories, great reformers, great politicians, great strategists, and the like would appear at random.
Unfortunately, they could only point out the state of the world and speak with passion in their dorm rooms, unable to display the ambitions in their hearts.
Of course, Uchiha Nan was not a professional. But he only needed to open the way; Konoha's elites would naturally find the rest of the path themselves.
Uchiha Tomita sat there listening, sweat appearing on his forehead. At first, he could understand a little, but later, he had no idea what Uchiha Nan was talking about.
"Industry must develop steel. Steel is the blood of industry."
"If you want to get rich, build roads first. Konoha's roads truly need some work. In the future, we'll also develop trains."
"."
Uchiha Tomita unconsciously opened his mouth, nearly reduced to babbling. Though he could not understand Uchiha Nan's words, he felt they were all profound truths, carrying an air of great sophistication.
All he needed to do was nod!
"Tomita, Konoha's future should be grand. It should not exist merely as a shinobi village. Do you understand what I mean?"
Uchiha Tomita swallowed. Saying he did not understand at this point would be far too embarrassing.
"I roughly understand. But Lord Uchiha Nan, aren't you considering things too far ahead?"
Uchiha Tomita carefully chose his words. The First Shinobi World War had not even completely ended yet. Konoha's battles with Kirigakure and Iwagakure had not been decided; they had merely entered a temporary truce. No one knew what the future would look like.
"If one has no far-reaching concerns, one will have immediate worries. Thinking a little further ahead can't hurt."
"One who does not plan for the whole cannot plan for a part; one who does not plan for eternity cannot plan for the moment."
Uchiha Nan spoke with earnest gravity.
"One who does not plan for eternity cannot plan for the moment... Clan Head, those are profound words!"
Uchiha Tomita praised him aloud, feeling that he himself had been too shallow. Perhaps only Uchiha Nan could lead Konoha toward a future.
"Alright, let's leave it at that for today!"
"Notify every clan to attend a meeting tomorrow. The funding has arrived, so it's time to distribute the money. I haven't been in Konoha for a while—they've probably been getting anxious."
Uchiha Nan felt that he could not discuss anything meaningful with Uchiha Tomita. Their ways of thinking simply were not on the same wavelength.
It was also about time to recruit a Hokage aide. The image of a pineapple-shaped head came to Uchiha Nan's mind.
Nara Luyuan should be a good candidate. The Nara Clan were all born with high intelligence.
He should gain something from talking with him.
"Understood, Clan Head!"
Uchiha Tomita nodded. Over the past few days, the Clan Heads of the other clans had often come to probe him, all wanting to know how much funding the Daimyo had issued.
Naturally, Uchiha Tomita did not tell them. He was warm and polite to everyone, yet knew nothing whenever they asked.
By evening, Uchiha Nan returned home to find that the area outside the house, which had been somewhat messy before, had been cleaned spotless.
"Master, you're back!"
"Yeah, I'm back."
Fu and Rin stood together at the door waiting for Uchiha Nan. He casually patted both their heads. Their hair was soft and smooth, pleasantly comforting to touch, much like petting a cat.
"Nan, are these two the massage therapists you hired?"
"This cat is very satisfied with their technique!"
Manji strutted out of the room with feline steps, clearly still unaware of the relationship between Uchiha Nan, Fu, and Rin.
"Not at all. They'll be living here from now on. I'm no longer single, you little virgin cat!"
Seeing Manji upon returning home put Uchiha Nan completely at ease, and he teased him.
"What?"
"You traitor!"
Manji's cat eyes widened. They had agreed to be best brothers for life—who was it that said whoever got a girlfriend first would be a dog?
Uchiha Nan and Manji fool around for a while, while Fu and Rin went to prepare dinner. Uchiha Tomita had sent over quite a lot of ingredients.
Before long, dinner was laid out on the table.
Four dishes and a soup!
Uchiha Nan sat there while the two sisters stood at the side, waiting on him. It was starting to make him uncomfortable. He wasn't a baby—did he really need someone to pick food for him while he ate?
"Sit down, both of you!"
"Since you're with me now, there's no need to be so restrained. From now on, this is your home too."
Uchiha Nan waved his hand, telling them to each serve themselves a bowl of rice and eat with him.
Originally, Uchiha Nan had wanted them to stop calling him "Master" and simply use his name, but the sisters absolutely refused, so he did not force the issue.
That night, Uchiha Nan lay with his head on Fu's lap, enjoying a lap pillow and ear-cleaning service. Manji lay sprawled across Rin's lap, enjoying her petting his fur.
"Nan, this cat approves of your relationship with those two. As long as they give me massages like this every day, that's enough."
Manji narrowed his eyes in bliss, smoothly accepting the new members of the household.
"Oh? That's good!"
"Don't you dare regret it!"
After saying that, Uchiha Nan led Fu and Rin toward the bathroom. He had long wanted to try taking a bath together.
After bathing, Uchiha Nan hurried back to the bedroom.
Tomita was really thoughtful. This bed was even bigger and softer than he had imagined.
Fu and Rin, wrapped in bath towels, blushed as they spoke in unison:
"Master, please be gentle."
(The remaining 10,000 words have been omitted.)
Outside the room, Manji listened to the sounds coming from within and covered his ears with his paws.
"Damn it, I was too careless!"
"My nest has been taken over!!!"
