History
Ancient sect and destruction
Tianyan Sect once stood supreme on the Tiannan Continent. Its inheritance included a cultivation path from Qi Condensation through He Dao, while its founding ancestor, Tiansuanzi, was renowned for divining heavenly secrets 799 894 969.
The sect was destroyed after outsiders arrived from beyond the realm. Qin Yezhou says its people and spirit beasts were drained of their cultivation to give the sect master one final chance to resist an overwhelming enemy. The full identity of the force behind the destruction remains unresolved 894 946 1235.
A young guardian beast whom Tiansuanzi had once spared survived. According to the Trial Tower’s spirit, it was entrusted with inheritance tokens and instructed to seek help from an allied sect. Instead, it consumed Tianyan’s treasures, attacked families and sects connected to its disciples, raised demons, and occupied the inheritance grounds. Luo Yi doubts parts of the spirit’s account 894.
Reemergence and restoration
After Luo Yi defeated the force occupying the former sect grounds, the mist concealing Tianyan Sect cleared and its buildings became visible across Tiannan. He ordered the remaining demons removed, cultivation resources gathered for distribution, and the protective array reactivated to open the ancient cave dwellings 940 948.
Qin Yezhou, the sect’s former senior direct disciple, backed Luo Yi’s claim to leadership and announced his return as Sect Master to other members of the Nine Sons of the Endless Sea. Luo Yi was later formally named Sect Master at a succession conference attended by the allied sects 1021 1223.
Sect Grounds and Inheritance
- Founder’s Hall — Houses Tiansuanzi’s statue and a control point for the protective array. Qin Yezhou’s remnant soul spends time there 941 948 977.
- Scripture Library — Preserves cultivation knowledge, including the Huaxu Guiyuan Scripture, which sets out a continuous path through He Dao 799 923.
- Spirit Plant Garden and cave dwellings — Surviving grounds and residences that yielded resources for the restored sect 923 948.
- Trial Tower — A treasure used to assess disciples’ cultivation and aptitude 948 1044.
- Talisman Tokens — Ten inheritance emblems left by the founder and Grand Elders. Gathered together, they can activate the sect-protection array 894.
- Dao-Merging Grounds — The Tiannan Continent’s most coveted inheritance. Control of the grounds offers a route from Great Vehicle toward Tribulation Transcendence, making the sect a target for rival powers 945 1217.
- Tianyan Forty-Nine and Tianyan Heart Sutra — Arts studied by Luo Yi after the sect’s return. Tianyan Forty-Nine draws strength from its user’s understanding of laws; the Heart Sutra develops divination and can warn of danger even at an early stage of mastery 1046 1104 1140.
Organization and Allies
- Luo Yi — Sect Master who directs restoration, protects affiliated forces, and claims responsibility for the sect’s future 948 1114 1235.
- Qin Yezhou — Former senior direct disciple whose remnant soul advises Luo Yi and advocates for the sect among its old allies 944 1021 1170.
- Chen Tai’an — Oversees the distribution of recovered resources and helps manage the growing sect 948 1138.
- Wei Beichen — Senior member who handles visitors and helps direct the disciples during crises 1146 1174.
- Heavenly Star Sect — Former ally that offers limited formal support and sends cultivators to teach at Tianyan Sect 943 953 1146.
- Subordinate forces — Include the Talisman Sect and, during the restoration, the Sun Family, Sea Prosperity Pavilion, and Mountain Sea Merchant Alliance. Several subordinate forces are later destroyed or displaced 1026 1100 1138.
Conflicts
- Claims on Tiannan — Rival sect figures seek Tianyan’s Dao-Merging Grounds, sometimes offering recruitment and sometimes challenging Luo Yi’s authority outright 942 1019 1217.
- Southern Sea Dragon Palace siege — The Dragon Palace surrounds the sect while Luo Yi is away. Tianyan activates its defenses; the crisis tests newly recruited disciples’ loyalty and brings aid from the Heavenly Star and Heavenly Pill sects 1170 1174 1175.
- Unsettled past — Even after his formal succession, Luo Yi asks Qin Yezhou for the complete account of Tianyan’s destruction so he can prepare if its old enemy returns 1235.
