The Ten Thousand Demon Lair was governed by raw strength rather than formal succession. A demon that lost strength could be forced to surrender its cave dwelling, while challengers could claim status through victory. Luck was also considered part of strength. 826 829

History

The Ten Thousand Demon Lair had a longstanding enmity with the human cultivation world. It nearly wiped out the Heavenly Origin Sect, whose legacy is connected to the modern Dao Alliance. 709

It repeatedly assaulted the southwestern border and harassed the Yilin Army’s encampment, inflicting serious casualties. Zhang Changqing consequently led a covert counterattack into the Ten-Myriad Mountains, where three Demon Ancestors prepared an ambush and discussed using captured Martial Dao Grandmasters as “blood food.” 487 488

Human cultivators continued entering the lair for ancient inheritances and heavenly treasures despite the danger. The cultivation methods that made forces such as the Dao Alliance, Great Qi Dynasty, and Heavenly Secrets Pavilion famous were reportedly recovered from Ancient Qi Practitioner ruins within the Ten Thousand Demon Lair. 637

The theft of the Nether Dragon Halberd destabilized relations among its Demon Ancestors. The Yōumíng Dragon Ancestor’s conflict with the Flame Wave Lion and the struggle over its natal weapon eventually drove the dragon from the lair. 759 827

Luo Yi later infiltrated the Ten Thousand Demon Lair by impersonating the Flame Wave Lion. While disguised, he accumulated influence, defeated rival Demon Ancestors, gained Lady White Bone’s attention, and eventually occupied the Ninth Lair after killing the Spider Demon Ancestor. 733 776 821 834

Following the Spider Demon Ancestor’s fall and escalating human incursions, White Crane Ancestor organized a high-profile expedition into human territory with the Ninth, Tenth, and Eighth Lair representatives. The force attacked the Heavenly Secrets Pavilion before being forced back toward the Ten Thousand Demon Lair. Leng Ningshuang killed White Crane, while the Giant Horned Dragon Python and Titan Great Ape returned to the lair. 838 840 842 871

After White Crane’s death, the Lair Master distributed Tianyan Sect protective robes to Demon Ancestors. Their formidable defense concealed a cost: heavy use drained the wearer’s vitality. Luo Yi plundered the lair’s remaining treasures and killed several leading Demon Ancestors, including Lady White Bone and the Giant Horned Dragon Python. 873 874 875 880 884 885

The Lair Master released Tiansuanzi’s captive remnant soul and sent him with Mountain Lord to recover the stolen treasures. Tiansuanzi claimed to be the rightful master of both Tianyan Sect and the lair, but the Lair Master retained means of restraining him. A subsequent demon campaign against Great Qi failed despite the lair’s remaining numbers. Luo Yi killed Mountain Lord and Demon Ancestress Mei Ji, while other Demon Ancestors fell defending the campaign. 887 899 901 904 910 914 916

Luo Yi and his allies later returned to seek treasures, particularly a Dao Palace Stabilizer. Dao Alliance disciples also entered the weakened lair. The confined Lair Master detected the intrusions but initially stayed within her hall, fearing that leaving might allow the Tianyan Sect’s protective array to be opened. As the lair shook and her restraints weakened, Luo Yi prepared for another breakthrough and an eventual confrontation with her. 921 922 924 926

Luo Yi fought Lü Shaoqi in the Ten Thousand Demon Lair, bringing the lair’s rule to an end. With its obscuring mist gone, the ancient Tianyan Sect became visible across Tiannan Continent. The Ten Thousand Demon Lair was thereafter spoken of as destroyed. 939 940 942 970
