Background

Shisui is a descendant of Kagami Uchiha and was initially regarded by Hiruzen Sarutobi as a bridge between Konoha and the Uchiha Clan. He concealed the disappearance of Seifu and Seiya Uchiha by telling clan members that they were away on a mission, while fearing they had been killed or captured. Their presumed fate left him deeply concerned for their infant son, Jinghuo. 2 3

He originally respected Hiruzen and intended to avert the Uchiha coup through Kotoamatsukami. Shimura Danzō exploited this loyalty, ambushing Shisui with Root and gouging out his right eye. Shisui escaped rather than surrender his remaining eye. 8
