Background / History

Sen'u was known as Senju Sen in childhood and grew up under the care of his grandmother, Uzumaki Mito. Though he carried a Senju surname, he possessed Uchiha blood as well, making him a source of resentment for Uchiha Fugaku; the two fought repeatedly during their Academy years. Sen'u nevertheless formed a close friendship with Fugaku's cousin, Uchiha Mikoto. 176 179

Seeking the strength of his father, Tianqi, Sen'u challenged him to demonstrate his power. Tianqi instead trapped him in a genjutsu and used the experience to expose Sen'u's limits. Humbled but undeterred, Sen'u formally became Tianqi's disciple after kneeling three times before him. 181

Tianqi's training was deliberately severe. Sen'u trained under heavy weights, was provoked into surpassing his limits, and developed from an elite Genin into a Chunin with a Two-Tomoe Sharingan. Kushina trained alongside him, though Tianqi only formally accepted Sen'u as a disciple. 182 183
