Background / History

Itachi was born to Sen'u and Mikoto as their eldest son and Sasuke's older brother. Even as a young child, he was stern, analytical, and unusually adult-like; when Tianqi first entered his room, Itachi immediately questioned the unfamiliar visitor and attempted to deduce how he had bypassed the household guards. Tianqi formally introduced himself as Itachi's grandfather shortly afterward. 277 278

He trained diligently from childhood and formed a friendly rivalry with Uchiha Shisui. When Tianqi found the two training in the Back Mountain forest, Itachi showed concern that his late return would worry his grandfather. 289

Tianqi eventually took Itachi away from Konoha for rigorous training. The journey became an endurance trial from its first day, and Tianqi trained him to develop a physique capable of bearing Indra's inherited ocular power. Over five years, Itachi grew into a Jonin-level shinobi by age ten and won first place among the Uchiha clan's younger generation. 301 303 325 326

Although Tianqi hoped Itachi might become a future clan head, he recognized that Itachi's heart remained with his parents and Sasuke in Konoha. Itachi is composed, observant, and exceptionally deliberate. He analyzes unfamiliar people and techniques, remains calm when pressured, and searches for an opponent's weakness rather than surrendering to panic. His diligence is paired with strong concern for family. He trained to return to Sasuke, later left the Uchiha clan despite its expectations, and repeatedly showed distress when Sasuke was endangered. Uchiha Massacre and Akatsuki Infiltration

Itachi became a double agent between Konoha and the Uchiha. After Shisui's death awakened his Mangekyo Sharingan, he took part in the destruction of the Uchiha Moderate Faction alongside Obito and Root forces. He personally killed Sen'u and Mikoto, then used cruelty and genjutsu to convince Sasuke that he had acted solely for power. 331 332 334 335

According to Hiruzen, Itachi accepted responsibility for stopping the Uchiha rebellion, preserving Sasuke, and infiltrating Akatsuki to protect Konoha from within. 408

Illness, Death, and Revival

Tianqi later found Itachi physically devastated by Mangekyo overuse and temporarily eased his condition, but could not cure the underlying damage. Following Itachi's death, Tianqi retrieved his body from Obito and initially revived him as a Six Paths Puppet. 353 357

Tianqi subsequently used Impure World Reincarnation and the Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique to restore Itachi to life. Afterward, he granted Itachi Indra's Mangekyo Sharingan and Rinnegan, giving him the power to protect the clan directly. 367

Fourth Shinobi World War

During the war, Itachi learned the truth about Obito, Madara, and Black Zetsu from Tianqi. He served as a guard while Tianqi and the Uchiha clan prepared their plan, and Tianqi ordered him to prevent outside interference. 373 374 414
