Background / History
Konohagakure was established by Hashirama Senju and Uchiha Madara to unite families, protect children from needless conflict, and create order from a chaotic ninja world. Hashirama later acknowledged that the village also produced the institutional darkness that burdened figures such as Itachi Uchiha. 291 410
After Madara's defection, an earlier expectation that an Uchiha would become Second Hokage was abandoned. Tobirama Senju took the office because no Uchiha could rival his strength or prestige. Under Tobirama, Madara's son Uchiha Tianqi was denied schooling, monitored, and isolated by Uchiha who feared association with him. 1
The village's relationship with the Uchiha remained unstable. Tianqi was eventually allowed to learn ninjutsu, leave the village, and accept missions, but he suspected the sudden lifting of restrictions concealed Tobirama's motives. 4 Years later, Konoha continued surveilling the Uchiha following Uchiha Qingyang's failed coup, prompting Clan Head Uchiha Sen to seek Tianqi's help. 68
Appearance
Konohagakure is a fortified Land of Fire settlement with guarded entrances and a rock face bearing statues of its Hokage. When Tianqi returned after more than a decade away, he found more prosperous streets and a fourth Hokage monument. 60 274
- Its gates enforce entry registration, including for Anbu personnel. 60
- The village's Hokage monuments had reached four by Minato Namikaze's era. 274
- Pain's assault later flattened the settlement, leaving ruined buildings, smoke, corpses, and widespread civilian casualties. 369 370 371
- Danzō commissioned Tianqi to restore the village after the attack, agreeing to pay one hundred million yuan for a one-day reconstruction. 372
Administration and Security
- Hokage — The village is governed by a Hokage, whose authority includes military deployment, diplomacy, appointments, and policy decisions. Tobirama served as Second Hokage, while Sarutobi Hiruzen later held the position and resumed it after Minato's death. 1 24 325
- High-level officials — Senior figures including Danzō, Mitokado Homura, and Utatane Koharu influence village policy, often clashing over war, diplomacy, and internal security. 72 196
- Anbu — Konoha's masked covert force conducts surveillance, pursues intruders, guards strategic areas, and enforces village security. 1 102 274
- Root — Danzō operates an underground organization with its own base, masked personnel, and substantial institutional support. Tianqi compared its scale and quality to that of an “underground Hokage.” 59
- Clan forces — Major clans can coordinate as a defensive force. During the Konoha Collapse, the Nara, Yamanaka, Akimichi, Aburame, Inuzuka, Hyūga, and Sarutobi clans mobilized against Tianqi. 350
