Background

Yan Shubing was once Zhu Ping'an's neighbor. Her father, Yan Pan'an, disappeared from her life when she was young; her mother told others that he had died in an accident. In reality, Yan Pan'an left to protect Yan Shubing and her mother from his powerful original wife, who had discovered the affair. Yan Shubing therefore grew up believing that her father was dead. 6 211

After her family's financial decline, Zhu Ping'an's parents covered her tuition, living expenses, and meals for years. Zhu Ping'an also regularly gave her money, cultivation resources, and support in conflicts. 1 6

Yan Pan'an later became a powerful Martial Artist and took control of his original wife's martial arts family. Zhu Ping'an learned that Yan Pan'an was Yan Shubing's biological father and sought to locate him before their destined reunion. 211

Yan Shubing is highly conscious of security, status, and practical benefit. She initially sought Zhu Ping'an's Qi and Blood Pill because it could help her keep pace with him academically, then gave the pill to Ye Qingxian because she considered his advancement the more worthwhile investment. 1 2

She is adept at using tears, vulnerability, jealousy, and affection to influence Zhu Ping'an. She treats him as a resource she does not wish to lose, particularly when his strength, family connections, or academy status can benefit her. 14 33 70

Her attachment to Ye Qingxian is nevertheless genuine. She repeatedly supports him, joins him in pursuing opportunities, agrees to become Tailor Li's disciple to save him after his limbs are severed, and carries him away from Cangqiong Academy herself. 50 209 210

When Zhenghao Wujun threatened the examinees, Yan Shubing sought Zhu Ping'an's protection after Ye Qingxian was injured. Zhenghao Wujun captured her to force information from Zhu Ping'an, prompting Zhu Ping'an to receive the Nine Revolutions Starry Sky Technique and intervene. 23 24

Engagement and Separation

Yan Shubing agreed to an engagement with Zhu Ping'an at Cangqiong Academy, while Zhu Ping'an secretly notified Ye Qingxian in expectation that he would disrupt the ceremony. 204

Ye Qingxian arrived to take her away, threatening the academy with the Level 9 Soul Devouring Demon sealed within him. After the conflict, he was punished by having his limbs severed. Yan Shubing carried him away and sought Tailor Li's help. 206 209
