Background / History
Taowu was one of the four great Ferocious Beast lines commanded by Beast Emperor Shen Ni, alongside Qiongqi, Taotie, and Chaos. The four clans served as major forces during the Ferocious Beast Calamity; their superior Origin Foundations gave them particularly pure and overbearing Chaos Sha. Their collective strength was enough that even Innate Beings of the same realm could struggle against them in direct combat 9.
After the calamity, the Taowu King survived in a severely wounded state and established itself within the Ancestral Vein of Changbai Mountain. It drained the northern lands' spiritual energy and spread Sha Qi through the vein, defiling the legacy of Pangu 9 11.
A lesser surviving Taowu was encountered before the King. Guiyuan captured it alive, extracted its fierce soul and Sha origin, and refined both into the Myriad Sha Banner. The refined beast soul became the banner's spirit, allowing it to suppress Taiyi cultivators 9.
Appearance
The Taowu King shared the Taowu form but was hundreds of times larger than the lesser beast Guiyuan encountered earlier 10.
- Tiger-like body with a human face 9 10
- Protruding boar-like fangs 9
- Long tail used as a whip-like weapon 9 10
- Mountain-sized body shrouded in surging Sha Qi 10 14
- Massive, old chest wound that leaked dark blood and remained its primary weak point 10 13 14
- Blood-red eyes and a shell described as harder than divine iron 13 14
Personality
Taowu is driven by ferocity, rage, and survival instinct. When pressed by Xuanming, Guiyuan, and Styx, it repeatedly chose to sacrifice its own clan members to recover power rather than retreat 10 13.
Its behavior becomes increasingly frenzied once its attacks fail. Even after its physical body was destroyed, its residual Daluo characteristic continued attempting to reconstruct it from surrounding Sha Qi and law fragments 13 14.
Abilities & Skills
Chaos Sha Manipulation
Taowu commands exceptionally pure Chaos Sha, which is more overbearing than ordinary Ferocious Beast Sha Qi 9.
- Covers its claws and tail strikes in corrosive Sha Qi 9 10
- Its attacks can leave Chaos Sha within an opponent's body; Xuanming required three hundred years to remove a lingering strand 12
- Can spread chaotic power that disrupts opponents' connections to their Great Dao and suppresses law-based techniques 13
Physical Combat
Taowu relies heavily on primal physical violence rather than refined divine techniques 10.
- Uses claws, fangs, and its tail in close combat 10 13
- Its shell and body withstand repeated attacks from Guiyuan, Xuanming, and Styx before its origin core is exposed 14
- Its chest wound is its greatest vulnerability and the focus of the trio's assault 10 13 14
Kin Sacrifice
The Taowu King can absorb the essence of its own clan to forcibly restore its strength.
- Nearby Taowu explode into blood essence and Chaos Sha that flow into the King's body 10 13
- The absorbed power temporarily restores its damaged body and awakens a trace of Daluo-level might 10 13
- This method cannot grant it stable, true Daluo power 13 14
Temporal Daluo Attack
After awakening its Daluo characteristic, Taowu attacks across past, present, and future simultaneously 13.
- Stacks force from three points in time into one instant 13
- Overwhelms ordinary Taiyi defenses through a difference in realm rather than mere physical power 13
- The Xuanyuan Controlling Water Flag can partially stabilize time and space, forcing the attacks into the present 13
Daluo Regeneration
A remnant Daluo characteristic protects Taowu's origin even after its body is destroyed 14.
- Absorbs residual Sha Qi and law fragments to regrow its body 14
- Cannot be permanently killed until the characteristic itself is erased 14
- Was ultimately sealed and destroyed by Guiyuan's temporarily borrowed Daluo authority 15
Relationships
- Beast Emperor Shen Ni — Former superior; Taowu was among the four great Ferocious Beast leaders under Shen Ni's command 9.
- Taowu clan — Its subordinate kin repeatedly sacrificed themselves to replenish the King's blood essence and Chaos Sha 10 13.
- Guiyuan — Primary enemy; Guiyuan first refined a lesser Taowu into the Myriad Sha Banner, then led the effort to kill the Taowu King and refined its remains into the Thirty-Three Fiendish Treasures 9 15 16.
- Xuanming — Enemy who sought to kill Taowu for corrupting Changbai Mountain's Ancestral Vein; she was severely injured during their first battle 10 11.
- Styx — Enemy and member of the temporary alliance against the King; his swords Yuantu and Abhi repeatedly targeted Taowu's wounds and origin core 11 13 14.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Capture of the Lesser Taowu
Guiyuan encountered a surviving Taowu in the northern continent and refined it alive into the Myriad Sha Banner. Through its transformed soul, he learned that the Taowu King still occupied Changbai Mountain's Ancestral Vein 9.
Changbai Mountain Conflict
The King fought Xuanming at Changbai Mountain, then replenished itself by detonating its subordinates and awakening a trace of Daluo power. Guiyuan intervened to save Xuanming and temporarily trapped the King long enough to escape 10.
Three Gods Battle Taowu
Guiyuan, Xuanming, and Styx formed a Three Talents formation to confront the King. Although they initially suppressed it, Taowu renewed its Daluo power through further sacrifices, attacked across three temporal states, and disrupted their Dao techniques with Chaos 12 13.
Final Death and Refinement
Guiyuan's nine giant turtle forms restrained Taowu while Styx and Xuanming shattered its origin core. When the King began regenerating through its remnant Daluo characteristic, Guiyuan used the Great Wish Technique to obtain temporary Daluo authority and erase it permanently. The King’s remains later became the unifying core of the Thirty-Three Fiendish Treasures 14 15 16.
