Tenth Realm 84 Broke through amid resurfacing memories; his Five Elements Light Core evolved into a Soul Light Core. His Soul Light Core was later suppressed by half inside Qin Chongxue's Thirteenth Realm Washing Soldiers Diagram Scroll 233.

Background / History

Mei Chengyu was born in the Yan Kingdom to Gongsun Xi, a Thirteenth Realm Yin-Yang School practitioner and Princess of Yan Kingdom, and Donglan Xun, a Mechanism Clan technician. He had an elder brother and an elder sister, Princess Wangshu. As a child, he preferred Mechanism Techniques over studying the Nine Schools arts and rarely left home except with his family 261 262 305 397.

He arrived at Taiyi with his memories erased. Although he did not know his family, home, or reason for coming to the academy, he retained an instinctive grasp of techniques from many schools. Sage Chang Gen accepted him as an eldest direct disciple, giving him unusual protection and access while his talent and outsider status drew resentment from Mechanism Clan children 52.

His sealed past repeatedly surfaced during major battles. A breakthrough to the Tenth Realm returned fragments of his childhood and revealed that his memories had been deliberately suppressed 84. He later recovered enough to identify his Yan Kingdom family and chose to remain at Taiyi to investigate Sage Chang Gen's motives rather than leave quietly 261 349.

After fully recovering his memories, Mei Chengyu resisted Sage Chang Gen's attempt to seal them again. He escaped by merging with the death qi of the Styx River, openly turning his conflict with his master into a personal confrontation 365.

Appearance

Mei Chengyu is a tall, slender young man with fair skin, dark hair, and dark eyes. His usual relaxed posture and handsome features can make him appear gentle or unbothered, though his build and movements reveal trained physical strength 95 97 372.

  • Long black hair, often loosened by wind or battle 97.
  • Deep, dark eyes that become notably cold when he is threatened or angered 44 164.
  • Lean shoulders, defined back muscles, and toned forearms 95 372.
  • Frequently wears Taiyi disciple robes and carries mechanism tools or a Listening Wind Ruler 26 280.

Personality

Mei Chengyu is outwardly lazy, sharp-tongued, and self-assured. He readily accepts praise of his own talent and treats many social conflicts with detached amusement. His arrogance is deliberate rather than careless: he remains composed in dangerous situations and becomes focused, decisive, and ruthless once a fight begins 41 186 287.

He is intensely private about his past and often withholds information even from people he trusts. This secrecy stems partly from his missing memories and partly from his growing suspicion of Sage Chang Gen 95 97 349.

His treatment of allies sharply contrasts with his treatment of enemies. He is protective toward Yu Sui and his close companions, teaches them without excessive pressure, and intervenes when they are endangered. Against opponents such as Wen Yanghui, however, he is capable of calculated brutality and will pursue information or revenge without mercy 100 101 205.

Abilities & Skills

Multi-School Nine Schools Techniques

Mei Chengyu can cultivate and combine common Nine Schools Techniques from numerous schools, an exceptional ability among Taiyi disciples. He is particularly proficient with Taoist techniques and Mechanism Techniques, while Ghost Dao techniques place a greater burden on him due to low compatibility 77 137 224.

  • Uses the Bagua Life Technique to deplete an opponent's Five Elements Qi and support allies in formation battles 41.
  • Can deploy Taoist lightning techniques, including Heavenly Dipper Five Thunders 44.
  • Uses the School of Names' Zi Yan to control Sword Souls 100.
  • Employs Military School weapon control, formations, swordsmanship, and body techniques 86 186.
  • Can use Yin-Yang incantations, star arrays, divination arrays, and School of Techniques formations in the same battle 186.
  • Cannot cultivate the Military School's Sword Spirit or the Yin-Yang School's personal Star Sea, as these are exclusive abilities requiring specialized compatibility 137 165.

Ghost Dao Techniques

As Sage Chang Gen's disciple, Mei Chengyu knows several Ghost Dao Heavenly Secrets Techniques despite his poor affinity for the school.

  • Death Rune — Extracts Five Elements Qi from inanimate objects, making it effective against Military Formation undead and puppets 42.
  • Reverse Kun Curse — Disrupts and withdraws an opponent's Five Elements Qi, such as the Qi sustaining Yu Sui's Wind Riding Technique 66.
  • Seven Consciousness Tower — Drains a target's Five Elements Qi in its first stage and seals their ability to acquire more Qi in its second 77 158.

Medical School Techniques

Mei Chengyu can use the Medical School pupil technique Heart in Sight to perceive and manipulate Five Elements Qi inside another person's body.

  • Reconnected Wei Ren's scattered Qi, stabilized his heart pulse, and temporarily saved his life 60.
  • Can heal others but cannot use Heart in Sight to heal himself 60.

Divine Mechanism Technique

Mei Chengyu possesses Heaven and Earth Synchronization, the fourth-ranked Divine Mechanism Technique. It allows him to mobilize and control Five Elements Qi as well as Yin-Yang heaven-and-earth qi 287.

  • Can control whirlpools and Sea Fire through the Thousand Mechanism Heart 287.
  • Its precise control over qi complements both his combat techniques and mechanism crafting 287.

Mechanism Techniques

Mei Chengyu is an accomplished mechanism technician with a longstanding talent for Mechanism Clan arts.

  • Repairs Cloud Car Flying Dragons in Mechanism Island's Ancient Tower 96.
  • Creates powerful mechanism scrolls 98.
  • Developed Purple Void Jade double rings intended to gasify and teleport a person over long distances 280.
  • Can create Taoist Paper Puppets for practical tasks and combat training 436.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Listening Wind Ruler — Used for long-distance communication and receiving information 26 191.
  • Mechanism Box — Stores medicine, clothing, and mechanism-related supplies 287.
  • Mechanism Nine Dice — Obtained during the conflict with Wen Yanghui on Mechanism Island 101.
  • Longsword — Used alongside Military School weapon-control techniques and Sword of Names techniques 86 100.

Relationships

  • Yu Sui / Nangong Sui — His junior martial sister, confidante, and romantic partner. Mei Chengyu protects and trains her, while Yu Sui supports him through his memory recovery. They confessed mutual feelings and later formed a Soul Contract to share memories 101 102 305.
  • Sage Chang Gen — His master and former protector at Taiyi. Their relationship deteriorated as Mei Chengyu learned that Sage Chang Gen had repeatedly sealed his memories and concealed his past 52 349 365.
  • Gongsun Xi — His mother, a Princess of Yan Kingdom and Thirteenth Realm Yin-Yang School practitioner. Sage Chang Gen revealed that he had promised Nangong Ming to kill her 262 371.
  • Donglan Xun — His father, a Mechanism Clan technician with ties to Taiyi's four major Mechanism families and knowledge of whirlpool teleportation 262 305.
  • Yan Xiaochuan — A junior whom Mei Chengyu trains in swordsmanship and body techniques. Mei Chengyu later rescued him from the Beast Bone Boat near East Wind Sea 184 232.
  • Xing Chun — A longtime friend and frequent dining companion. Mei Chengyu has an unusually close, protective relationship with him and avoids exposing Xing Chun's private matters 16 198 305.
  • Zhongli Shan — Close friend and sworn brother; their association later became politically dangerous after Mei Chengyu's Yan Kingdom identity was exposed 16 398.
  • Liang Zhen — Taoist School dean who taught Mei Chengyu Nine Schools Techniques in the past and continued assisting him after his memories returned 224 349.
  • Gu Gan — Rival. Their conflict is fueled by Gu Gan's distrust of Mei Chengyu and competing concern for Yu Sui 26 105 205.
  • Wen Yanghui — Mechanism Clan rival whose envy and assassination attempt escalated into Mei Chengyu's violent confrontation with him 100 104.
