Lucy bared her teeth and claws as she lunged at Old Wang.
Whoosh!
Old Wang reached out, True Qi swirling around his hand as he seized Lucy by the neck.
He lifted her up as easily as a chick.
Old Wang was tall and solidly built. He was usually all smiles, but once he got serious, he had an imposing, terrifying presence.
He had crawled out of mountains of corpses and seas of bones, faced Titan's soul and the Old Gods head-on, and spent barely a peaceful day in the ten years since his transmigration. If he wasn't fighting, he was on his way to fight. The aura forged through those experiences had made even the Spirit of Vengeance back down. What was a little Lucy by comparison?
Watching Lucy struggle desperately, Old Wang gave a half-smile. "Read the situation, Auntie! So what if you're trapped between dimensions and can freely switch between solid and intangible forms? Physical attacks can't hurt you, but what about energy?"
Someone like you is inferior even to the ghost villagers of Moon Creek Town, yet you dare cause trouble?
Lucy froze, then her eyes widened. Fanatical scientific fervor burst from her gaze. "You can actually manipulate energy? How did you do it? That's impossible!"
This wasn't fucking reality. This was a movie or a novel!
"Nothing is impossible. That's how a scientist should think."
Old Wang calculated the time. It had been about five minutes. Time was limited.
"Do you want to become human again?" Old Wang asked.
"Yes!" Lucy answered without hesitation.
I haven't lived long enough. My scientific research isn't finished. I haven't put my personal and social value into practice... I haven't even had children yet!
"Then stop making trouble. We're on the same side now. I'll help you."
Old Wang snapped his fingers, and a streak of jade-green lightning appeared out of thin air. "If you think you can withstand this, you can try running."
I can't withstand it. Movies and novels all say ghosts are afraid of lightning... Watching this fantastical sight, Lucy felt as if she had gained heavenly vision and seen a new world. She knew she was truly done for, but she still stubbornly said, "You're Eli's man. I'll never work for Eli! Even if I die, I won't!"
"...Who told you I'm Eli's man? You're already so old, so why do you love making things up in your head?"
Old Wang was speechless. He rubbed his temples. "Could you watch fewer soap operas? Do you think Eli is qualified to order me around? What are you even thinking?"
Lucy blanked out.
That seemed right!
Someone who could create lightning from nothing was probably even more incredible than the Captain America they had been promoting for decades. He was practically a Super Hero... no, a Super Villain. Before him, Eli could only count as an elite monster, nowhere near boss level.
So...
"Eli works for you?" Lucy started imagining things again.
You're overthinking this... Old Wang was completely speechless. "I have nothing to do with him, okay?"
That was good... Lucy finally got past that mental hurdle. The prospect of becoming human again was always a good thing, and a scientist's mindset overcame her fear and anger. "Then what's the price?"
At least three years, at most the death penalty... Old Wang released her, patted Lucy on the shoulder, and gave her a gentle smile. "That's more like it. I didn't want to use force... Don't worry. I'll help you become human again, and you'll work for me while continuing your research. You'll still get paid. You won't be shortchanged."
So you wanted me all along. You should've just said so... Lucy stopped resisting completely.
I want to become human again. I want to continue scientific research. Nothing else matters.
Who I work for makes no difference.
But I still want revenge. And how is my Joseph doing now?
Forget it. This man in front of me seems to be in a hurry. This isn't the time to bring it up.
Boss, please give your orders!
"I'm giving you your first task."
Old Wang pointed at the other boxes nearby. "Release your colleagues, and convince them while you're at it. Otherwise, I'll beat them into submission, or... kill them!"
Five minutes later.
Old Wang did not need to make a move.
After Robbie transformed into Ghost Rider and nearly killed one of Lucy's colleagues, the three newly released people behaved themselves.
They had no choice but to behave.
They couldn't win in a fight, and they couldn't escape. Could they possibly be faster than Jade Lightning?
Old Wang also had the Cloud Grasping Whip!
Not to mention that Ghost Rider was the natural enemy of demons and monsters like them. One careless mistake and their souls would be scattered. They could only submit.
Hugo, Vincent, and Frederick, the three new ghosts, stood in a row.
Together with Lucy, Joseph, and Eli, they made up the entire Power New Energy Laboratory.
The worst among those who could join this laboratory held doctorates and were elites in quantum mechanics. They certainly could not compare to the first Ant-Man, "Hank Pym," and were probably no match for the Hulk, "Bruce Banner," with his seven doctorates, but they still counted as capable unknown scientists.
Moreover, aside from Eli, all of them had read the Darkhold. In some respects, they were even more remarkable than famous scientists. Five divisions could not compare to them; they were certainly worth more than five regiments.
In just a few minutes, Old Wang had acquired a fairly decent scientific team.
An ordinary small or medium-sized fortune could not support a team like this. Only a company on the level of Stark Industries, or at the very least Hammer Industries, could afford one.
He had the talent. Now all he lacked was money...
"Very good."
Old Wang clapped. "Now we're going to find the Darkhold."
Lucy froze, realizing an opportunity had come. "The Darkhold is with Joseph. We should find Joseph. Boss, I can definitely persuade him! He's the most outstanding among us, a true genius! Alone, he's more important than all of us combined. You definitely need him, right, Boss?"
Hugo, Vincent, and Frederick: "..."
Lucy, what are you talking about?
You have to take responsibility for what you say!
The three of them looked at the group photo hanging on the wall in the distance, staring at Joseph in it with vicious expressions.
It was all Joseph's fault!
He was just as hateful as Eli!
"No need."
Old Wang glanced at Robbie and saw that the anger in his eyes was still burning. It seemed the others did not matter, but the chief culprit, Joseph, absolutely could not be spared.
Was Joseph important?
No. What mattered was the Darkhold!
Besides, ten Josephs could not compare to one Ghost Rider. Old Wang could still do that math.
And Lucy, look at the expressions on your colleagues' faces. They look like they want to eat Joseph alive!
Old Wang said calmly, "Joseph hid the Darkhold. It's in the place where you found it!"
Lucy still wanted to fight for him when Skye suddenly shouted, "Wang, S.H.I.E.L.D. is here!"
On the phone screen, a group of people had appeared from who knew where and blocked the laboratory entrance. They were preparing to break in.
A strange smile appeared on Lucy's lips.
The boss seems about to clash with a government agency called S.H.I.E.L.D.?
Maybe I can take the chance to escape?
"Coulson contacted other Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? As expected, S.H.I.E.L.D. is everywhere!" Old Wang remarked.
A government agency was still a government agency. Impressive!
"Wang, what do we do?" Skye was a little panicked.
They couldn't possibly directly clash with S.H.I.E.L.D., could they?
There were no masks here to disguise themselves with, either!
"Don't worry. There are plenty of ways."
Old Wang strode over to the battery box and placed one hand on it.
The next moment, the box vanished.
"Miss, let's turn this into cash!"
Thanks to "Ziyuan882" for the 100 reward.
Also, I didn't change the cover. Qidian changed it on its own... What a headache. Does this cover have anything to do with Warcraft? Does it have anything to do with Marvel?
