Background / History
Xu Changqing was reincarnated from Earth into a world defined by war, slavery, cultivation, and betrayal. After joining the army and entering cultivation at the Divine Bridge Realm, he spent centuries seeking techniques and secret-realm opportunities, only to be ambushed repeatedly and stripped of his gains. During his Four Extremes breakthrough, a demonic cultivator captured him to refine him into a blood pill; Mu Miaomiao rescued him, becoming his confidante and savior 1.
He married Lin Siyu and had a son, Xu An, but Lin Siyu left to cultivate and did not return. His later life was marked by attempted assassinations, the loss of friends and family ties, and three hundred years of wandering. These experiences hardened his Dao heart and led him to view emotional attachment as a vulnerability rather than a source of strength 1.
Xu Changqing spent more than two hundred years developing the framework of a cultivation method suited to his mortal body. He distributed an early version to a Golden Frog, who took the name Xu Jin and regarded Xu Changqing as his master despite never being formally acknowledged as a disciple 3.
When the Woman in White challenged the Feathered Dynasty through a Dao-Slaying tribulation, Xu Changqing chose the same moment to sever his Dao. His tribulation remade his Sea of Bitterness, implanted his Emotional Origins within his organs, and led to the creation of the Supreme Heartless Body 3 5 6 10.
Appearance
Xu Changqing is a tall, lean man with a broad back, a cold chiseled face, and an oppressive presence. After severing his emotions, his black hair gradually turned white; his expression became notably blank and difficult to read 2 5.
- Usually wears black robes, which give him a demonic or austere appearance beside his white hair 19.
- Has deep, quiet eyes repeatedly compared to a secluded spring beneath moonlight 5 11.
- His body bears white runes and releases immortal mist after the creation of the Supreme Heartless Body 10.
- Uses disguises when necessary, including an ordinary mortal appearance and a black technological combat suit in the Eternal Star Domain 16 104.
- During severe tribulations, his body is often reduced to broken flesh, blood mist, or scattered bones before restoring itself 7 9 30 31.
Personality
Xu Changqing is composed, calculating, and exceptionally difficult to intimidate. He considers strength the surest means of determining truth and survival, and he rarely wastes words on people he considers irrelevant or weak 18 37 40.
His path of “heartlessness” does not mean the absence of ambition. He explicitly rejects romantic love, familial affection, friendship, and brotherhood, regarding them as restraints on his Dao. At the same time, he recognizes that emotions are intrinsic to living beings and uses them as the basis for his later Heavenly Art 10 75.
He is relentlessly self-improving: he studies hostile techniques, refines his own methods through battle, and willingly enters fatal tribulations to advance. His detachment can become cruelty, particularly toward enemies, factions that pursue him, and mortals caught in his suspicions or retaliation 28 29 42 77.
Despite this, he sometimes protects or aids others when it aligns with his choices. He carries the severely wounded Swallowing Heaven from battle, teaches cultivation to Little White, gives healing items to an injured Human Race Guide, and honours his promise to Emperor Daoyan concerning Dao Yi 70 91 104 180.

- Uses inherited Demonic Great Sage and Quasi-Emperor healing methods, though they initially cost lifespan or restore him too slowly 6 7.
- Can reassemble from scattered flesh and bone after tribulations by comprehending the vitality within destruction 31.
Reincarnation Path
In his later life, Xu Changqing develops a path based on reincarnation across worlds and eras.
- Mirrors the cultivation systems of several eras and evolves them into interconnected paths 244.
- Pulls a united Path of Reincarnation into his body after merging with his Dao Fruit 257.
- Reincarnates repeatedly through broken epochs to repair damaged Paths of Reincarnation 264 265.
- Eventually severs most of his reincarnation memories because invincibility and accumulated lives leave him numb and detached 270.
