Background / History

The Immortal Realm is the destination sought by generations of Heavenly Venerates, Ancient Emperors, Great Emperors, and Supreme Beings. Its existence confirms that immortality is not impossible, but requires sufficient cultivation rather than merely the correct opportunity to enter the Immortal Path 219 235.

An ancient war devastated the realm. Its original territory was broken into millions of fragments, with some regions inaccessible even to ordinary True Immortals; only Immortal Kings can traverse them safely 237 239 241. The Greater Yang World and Lesser Yin World are identified as remnants formed when the Immortal Realm was shattered in an earlier epoch 192.

The Ancient Heavenly Court once defended the realm, including by refining the Sea of Worlds into a barrier against black gas. However, the Heavenly Court later disappeared, leaving the realm's inhabitants unaware of what lay beyond its guarded entrance 237 238.

Conditions

• The realm contains abundant Eternal Life Substance and more complete Great Dao Laws than the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands 235.
• Its shattered state has left ancient battlefields, drifting continents, ruined cities, and regions saturated with lingering destructive power 237 239 241.
• Only a few True Immortals emerged during the preceding epoch, and all later disappeared 237.
• Despite its damage, much of the realm is presently peaceful; conflicts between its worlds are mediated by Gu Tuo 241.
• Xu Changqing declines to repair it himself, stating that later generations will restore it after seventy-two thousand years while he pursues war in the footsteps of the Desolate Heavenly Emperor 238.

Access

Immortal Path

The Immortal Path is the principal route connecting the lower realms to the Immortal Realm. It may open only under exceptional conditions and is guarded by formidable Immortal Dao Laws and barriers 177 217.

• Three Mortal World Immortals can join forces to open the gate of immortality 178 234.
• An Immortal King can independently tear open the laws separating the realms 178.
• The Chaos Heavenly Saber once severed Immortal Dao Laws along several paths, exposing the route's depths and enabling Supreme Beings to assault the gate 217.
• The Empress cut open the barrier with a sword strike containing Xu Changqing's power, allowing Eternal Life Substance to flow outward 219.
• Xu Changqing later opened the path casually at a cosmic node and entered with Emperor Venerable and the Undying Heavenly Emperor 235.

King Pan City

King Pan City is an important settlement within the Immortal Realm.

• Its gates cannot be opened by Supreme Beings; entry requires a True Immortal or someone above that realm 237.
• Departure relies on ancient formations 237.
• Gu Tuo entered the city through an ancient formation while carrying his son, Gu Qing 237.

Inhabitants and Governance

• Gu Tuo — The strongest known resident of the current Immortal Realm and inheritor of the Heavenly Court. He mediates disputes among the realm's fractured worlds and seeks a way to repair the realm 237 241.
• Gu Qing — Gu Tuo's son; explains the realm's dangerous regions and ambitions to become a Heavenly Emperor 237.
• Pan Long — Provides Xu Changqing's group with information about the realm's fragmented condition and ancient formation routes 237 239.
• Emperor Venerable — Entered the realm under Xu Changqing's control, later cultivating there and exploring its battlefields and opportunities 235 241.
• Undying Heavenly Emperor — Returned to his homeland in Immortal Phoenix Mountain after Xu Changqing brought him into the realm 235 239 243.

Dangerous Regions

Fiend Dens

Fiend Dens are hazardous sites formed from the aftermath of the ancient war. They contain malevolent energy, strange substances, and corpses that revive without sentience 237 238.

• They can yield Immortal King inheritances and other opportunities to survivors 240.
• Many cultivators rose through Fiend Dens, while many others died in them 240.
• The Burial Pit is regarded as particularly lethal; even Immortal Kings may perish within it, and it may contain Immortal King Titans 237.

Ancient Battlefields

Ancient battlefields preserve skeletons, weapon fragments, jade inscriptions, and Dao patterns left by fallen True Immortals and Immortal Kings 241.

• Xu Changqing studies these remnants to deduce Immortal King techniques and resolve local dangers 241.
• Some battlefields are covered in dark red gravel, white bones, ghosts, black mist, and residual ominous energy 239.
• The realm's past war killed an estimated ninety percent of its living beings and nearly all of its Immortals 240.
