Background / History

The Dragon Demon originates from the Qingming Dragon-Locking Body, a hard-style cultivation method based on visualizing a human body standing alongside a dragon. Elder Zhao explains that the art conceals a Dragon Demon within the practitioner after they take Qingming Two Energies; it embodies the principle of having “sinews and bones like a dragon” while possessing a fierce, baleful demonic mind 223.

Meng Chuan's Dragon Demon develops abnormally quickly. Zhao Shousui attributes its massive early form not to Meng Chuan's other hard-body arts, but to Meng Chuan's exceptional innate essence. Normally, practitioners repeatedly temper their Dragon Demons through the Dragon-Capturing Style to extract dragon qi; Meng's was already so swollen that it filled his Middle Dantian 225.

Its first major danger was the Dragon Demon Hooking Desire. The creature tried to break through Meng Chuan's blood-and-qi blockade, but Meng suppressed both its emergence and his own urges through controlled breathing and the Calming Technique. Afterward, it returned to the Middle Dantian, while Meng's Qingming Dragon-Locking Body leapt directly to the Proficient stage 228.

As Meng Chuan fed it Heavenly Demon Cores and True Spirits, the Dragon Demon became increasingly intelligent and formidable. It first showed its worth as a guardian within the Sea of Consciousness, where it could fight spiritual enemies and consume demonic qi that ordinary physical attacks could not address 305. Meng later pursued a Limit Breaking method intended to turn it from a formless imagery creature into a manifested combat entity under mental command 484.

The completed Limit Breaking gave the Dragon Demon a massive manifested form, mental attack capability, and its brow-eye. After devouring a powerful soul fragment connected to Crimson Malice, it developed Deconstructing Divine Poison, an ability dangerous enough that Meng initially feared others would mistake it for genuine demonic qi 566 573.

During the conflict inside the Crimson Refinement Banner, the Dragon Demon disguised itself as “Demon Eye” to lure Burning Steel into touching its Heavenly Eye. It then fired Deconstructing Divine Poison at point-blank range, helping Meng Chuan severely weaken the Purgatory God-chosen. Burning Steel later destroyed the Dragon Demon, but it re-condensed from black qi and returned hungry for more True Spirits 611 628.

Appearance

The Dragon Demon's manifested body changes substantially with Meng Chuan's cultivation. It began as a dark, shriveled internal creature, but developed into a colossal black dragon with increasingly tangible features before eventually gaining a genuine flesh-and-blood body 242 485 841.

• Early form — A large snake-headed creature that resides coiled within Meng Chuan's Middle Dantian 239.
• Mature dragon form — A more than twenty-meter-long five-clawed Black Dragon with a sharply defined head, mature branching horns, black steel-like scales, and apricot-yellow vertical pupils 484.
• Limit-Broken form — Its body nearly doubles in size, gains rows of Grim bone spurs, and becomes wreathed in dense leaden clouds that distort the surrounding air 485.

Personality

The Dragon Demon is intelligent, highly food-motivated, and openly fawning toward Meng Chuan. It repeatedly begs for Heavenly Demon True Spirits, becomes excited by the prospect of hunting, and responds enthusiastically when praised after a successful meal or battle 628 643.

Despite its predatory instincts, it recognizes Meng Chuan as the unquestioned master of their shared inner world. It suppresses its urge to consume targets when ordered, follows commands during reconnaissance, and can understand simple bargains involving food and future rewards 239 610 637.

It is also capable of deception. While trapped in the Crimson Refinement Banner, it posed as an injured three-eyed dragon named Demon Eye, feigned submission to Burning Steel, and deliberately displayed its Heavenly Eye to create an opening for Meng Chuan's ambush 611.

Meng considers it sharper and more independently minded than his other imagery creatures. However, it is primarily an offensive creature and reacts with visible fear when directly threatened by stronger enemies 628 769.
