Xi Yan and the Straw Hat Pirates defeated Moria, escaped Kuma, and welcomed Brook into the crew before setting out for Fish-Man Island. After rescuing Hatchan from Duval, they learned they needed to coat the Thousand Sunny at Sabaody Archipelago.

• Brook explained his promise to return to Laboon, and the Straw Hats agreed to defeat Moria and reclaim Brook’s shadow.
• Xi Yan and Luffy defeated Oars with Moria trapped inside him, and Xi Yan weakened Oars with seawater until Luffy’s shadow escaped.
• Luffy defeated Moria, releasing the stolen shadows, and Zoro reclaimed Brook’s shadow by defeating Ryuma and receiving Shusui.
• Kuma offered Xi Yan a Shichibukai position, but Xi Yan refused and fought him alongside the Straw Hats until Moria intervened and helped them escape Thriller Bark.
• Brook joined the Straw Hat Pirates after learning Laboon was still waiting for him, and the crew sailed toward Fish-Man Island.
• Xi Yan helped Camie and Pappagu, and the Straw Hats rescued Hatchan from Duval’s men after Xi Yan swept away their sea fortress.
• Sanji reshaped Duval’s face with his kicks, and Duval later offered Sanji his help before Hatchan and Camie joined the Straw Hats.

The Straw Hats reached Sabaody, where Xi Yan learned Haki, faced Big Mom’s marriage offer, and helped rescue Camie and Merry from human traffickers. After Xi Yan and Luffy killed the Celestial Dragons who threatened their friends, the crew fled through an island under Marine assault and defeated a Pacifista, while Kizaru continued closing in.

• Hatchan guided the Straw Hats around Sabaody and warned them to avoid provoking the Celestial Dragons, while Xi Yan used an illusion to hide the group from Shalria.
• Rayleigh told the Straw Hats about Roger and the Great Pirate Era, then agreed to coat their ship as Xi Yan learned the fundamentals of Haki.
• Galette revealed that Big Mom wanted Xi Yan to marry her, but Xi Yan refused to leave the Straw Hats and later fought Kid while Galette watched.
• After Camie and Merry were abducted, Xi Yan found Merry in the auction house’s prison and freed her, then joined Luffy and the others to rescue Camie.
• When Hatchan was shot protecting Nami, Luffy punched Saint Roswald and Xi Yan killed Saint Charlos, Saint Roswald, and Shalria, triggering a Marine pursuit.

After Kuma scattered the Straw Hat Pirates, Xi Yan and Luffy reached Amazon Lily, where Xi Yan secured Hancock’s help and a route toward Ace. Hancock joined the war after Xi Yan removed her slave mark, while Whitebeard’s forces began moving against the Navy.

• Kizaru and Akainu attacked the Straw Hat Pirates on Sabaody, and Kuma sent the crew away as Xi Yan awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan after Merry died.
• Xi Yan, Luffy, and Merry landed on Amazon Lily, where Xi Yan learned about Ace’s execution and sought Hancock’s Permanent Log Pointer to Navy Headquarters.
• Hancock attacked Xi Yan and petrified Grandma Za, but Xi Yan fought back and demanded that Hancock reverse the petrification and provide the pointer.
• Xi Yan offered to remove Hancock’s slave mark, and Hancock agreed to his demands after Xi Yan explained that he had killed Celestial Dragons to protect his friends.
• Hancock revealed that she and her sisters had been enslaved and branded by the Celestial Dragons, and Xi Yan removed Hancock’s mark without leaving a scar.
• Xi Yan planned to reach Ace and proposed using Sea Kings to follow the Navy warship toward the Underwater Great Prison, while Grandma Za agreed to look after Merry.
• Hancock agreed to join the war and asked to visit Ace, which Sengoku approved under the condition that she wear Sea Stone handcuffs.
• A Navy soldier reported that all twenty-three ships monitoring Whitebeard had lost contact, and Sengoku ordered the Navy to prepare for battle.

Xi Yan and Luffy infiltrated Impel Down to rescue Ace, with Xi Yan holding off Magellan while Luffy was poisoned and taken for treatment. The arc ended with Xi Yan and Ivankov preparing to investigate Ace’s disappearance as Borsalino carried Ace toward Navy Headquarters.

• Xi Yan left Amazon Lily with Luffy and used Erha to travel toward Impel Down, while Hancock went to the prison under Navy escort.
• Xi Yan and Luffy entered Impel Down in disguise, then joined forces with Buggy, Mr. 3, and Bon Clay as they fought through the prison’s levels.
• Xi Yan defeated the prison’s Demon Beasts and helped the group reach Level 5, where Magellan attacked them with poison.
• Magellan poisoned Luffy, so Xi Yan sent Bon Clay and the others to seek help while staying behind to fight Magellan.
• Xi Yan learned that no antidote was available, fought Magellan again, and then followed Luffy’s group to Level 5 after Ivankov arranged to bring him to the New Okama Kingdom.
• Ivankov treated Luffy and warned Xi Yan that the treatment could take two days, while Xi Yan learned Ace was on Level 6 and planned to rescue him before the execution.
• Ivankov realized Ace was Luffy’s brother and prepared to investigate after surveillance of Level 6 failed, while Borsalino took Ace from Magellan to return him to Navy Headquarters.
