Brook told Franky and Nico Robin about Gecko Moria’s shadow-stealing zombies and left to reclaim his shadow so he could keep his fifty-year-old promise to Laboon. After Franky recounted Brook’s story, Luffy and the Straw Hats agreed to defeat Moria, recover Brook, and invite him aboard.

• Brook purified Spider Monkey and the Mouse Spiders with salt, freed Franky and Nico Robin, and explained that Gecko Moria used stolen shadows to create loyal zombies.
• Brook revealed that he was going to reclaim his shadow and return to Twin Capes to tell Laboon, his whale companion, that the Rumbar Pirates had not abandoned him.
• Franky warned Brook that Laboon might no longer be waiting, but Brook insisted that Laboon was still alive and that he had to honor their promise.

• Xi Yan spread ordinary water across the battlefield and had Nami create enormous cumulonimbus clouds while Kuma tested the limits of his rebound ability.
• Absalom told the newly awakened Moria that Perona had disappeared after encountering Kuma, and Moria armed himself with his tachi and ordered Absalom to take Hogback away while he went to settle the score with Kuma.
• Xi Yan lured Kuma into the water, used a lightning clone to conduct electricity through it, and struck him with Lightning Release: Kirin, which left Kuma twitching and badly burned in a deep pit.

Xi Yan and the Straw Hat Pirates fought Bartholomew Kuma, who revealed that his Paw-Paw Fruit could repel and transfer injuries. As Kuma offered to spare them if they surrendered Luffy, Moria appeared, used Usopp’s shadow to revive a zombie, and showed that the zombie could absorb the injuries.

• Kuma survived the crew’s attacks and explained that his Paw-Paw Fruit let him repel everything, including his own injuries.
• The Straw Hat Pirates refused to hand Luffy over, and Kuma blasted them with a powerful Bear Paw Impact that Xi Yan blocked with an Earth Wall.

They ordered CP0 and the Navy to capture Xi Yan and send an Admiral to kill Moria, with the Straw Hat Pirates also targeted if they reached Sabaody Archipelago.

• The Five Elders grew concerned when Kuma failed to return or contact them, then learned he had arrived at the Holy Land injured.
• Kuma reported that Xi Yan had refused the World Government’s Shichibukai offer and that Xi Yan’s Lightning Release had countered him.

Sengoku received the World Government’s order to send Akainu and Kizaru after Gecko Moria and the Straw Hat Pirates, with Xi Yan to be captured alive. Garp confronted Sengoku over Ace’s public execution, then went to visit his grandson as the Navy prepared for the coming war.

• Saint Vowchuri ordered Sengoku to send Akainu, assisted by Kizaru, to kill Moria and capture Blood-Eyed Ninja Xi Yan alive.
• Garp confronted Sengoku over Ace’s execution, learned it was the World Government’s order, and left to visit Ace at the Underwater Great Prison.
• Sengoku told Aokiji and Akainu that the Navy would summon the Shichibukai and needed Aokiji ready to counter Whitebeard’s tsunami attacks.

Xi Yan and the crew reassured Robin that they would protect her as she pursued what she wanted.

• Brook played music at dawn, waking the crew, and Nami threw shoes at him and Xi Yan for making noise.
• Xi Yan urged Brook to explore the soul-related powers of his Revive-Revive Fruit.
• Brook told Xi Yan about Rocks D. Xebec, a cruel and powerful pirate from his era whose later fate he did not know.

• Nami noticed a school of fish fleeing and identified the dangerous Youshe Sea Current as whirlpools sent enormous currents surging toward the Thousand Sunny.

Xi Yan spotted a Sea King near Shark Three, accidentally sent the submarine sinking with his Water Release, then escaped to the surface and defeated the beast. He prepared its meat for the crew and scared off another Sea King attracted by the blood.

• Camie and Pappagu thanked Xi Yan for saving them after they were spat out by a Sea King, and Camie invited the Straw Hat Pirates to eat takoyaki.
• Xi Yan cut the Sea King into pieces without damaging its organs and stored its meat in a Sealing Scroll.

• Xi Yan and the crew learned from Camie and Pappagu that Hatchan had been captured and that fish-men and mermaids were sold as slaves at the Sabaody Archipelago auction house.
• Pappagu explained that the powerful Flying Fish Riders, led by the masked Duval, had been searching every passing ship for someone.
• Camie heard the school of fish warn that the Flying Fish Riders were approaching, and three scouts on flying fish arrived above the Thousand Sunny.

The Straw Hat Pirates reached Duval’s sea fortress to rescue Camie and Hatchan, and Xi Yan’s Water Release destroyed the ambush and the settlement. Duval confronted Sanji, revealed a face identical to Sanji’s wanted poster, and renewed his attack on the crew.

• Duval learned the Straw Hat Pirates were approaching and prepared to take revenge on Sanji, while Hatchan realized who they were and warned them it was a trap.
• Camie and Pappagu jumped into the sea to save Hatchan, prompting Nami to agree to rescue them; Luffy pulled them from the water and Usopp blasted their captors.

The Thousand Sunny headed for the archipelago to be coated, and Galette hoped to persuade Xi Yan to marry her without forcing him.

• Charlotte Galette asked Katakuri to let her speak with Xi Yan on her own, and Katakuri agreed despite Big Mom’s orders.
• Luffy and the others ate Hatchan’s takoyaki, and Nami said it was delicious without explicitly forgiving him.
