Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Post-Ancient constrained era | 549 | A giant heavenly net prevented ordinary cultivators from advancing into the Gods and Demons Realm; the source of the net was later sealed, allowing the world's environment to begin recovering. |
| Restored great-world capacity | 800 | Integrations with worlds such as Wujiang and energy leaked by six Innate Supreme Treasures raised the world's tolerance from Gods and Demons Great Perfection-level combat to Mysterious Yellow Realm clashes. |
| Nine Vortex expansion | 800 814 | Power from nine vortices dramatically enlarged the world and increased its spiritual qi; tens of thousands of worlds began merging into it, while even Progenitor Great Beings could no longer easily destroy it in one blow. |
Geography
The Great Heaven World is described as vast and boundless, with the central Nine Provinces Land alone thousands of times larger than Earth. Beyond it lie the Four Seas, Savage Lands, Endless Desert, northern ice plains, and outer space beyond the sky. 1 184
- Central Nine Provinces — The world’s spiritual qi and heavenly fortune are concentrated here; holding the central land is said to make one the “protagonist of heaven and earth.” 184
- Endless Sea — Located east of the Nine Provinces and substantially larger than the central region. 184
- Great Desert — A southern expanse larger than the Nine Provinces. 184
- Savage Lands — Western territories, likewise several times larger than the central land. 184
- Northern Snow Region and ice plains — Frigid northern territories beyond the Nine Provinces. 184
- Outer space — Part of the world’s known expanse beyond the terrestrial regions. 184
A later comparison places the entire Great Heaven World—including the Savage Lands and Endless Sea—at approximately the scale of a Milky Way galaxy, while the Nine Provinces are slightly larger than a solar system. 434
History
Five eras
Historical records divide the world’s history into five eras: Primordial, Ancient, High Ancient, Middle Ancient, and Present. Its origin predates the recorded eras by at least tens of millions of years. 184
| Era | Major events |
|---|---|
| Primordial Era | Heaven and earth were born, followed by Innate Gods and Demons. The Dao Ancestor later opened the Dao; his departure ended the era. 184 |
| Ancient Era | Eight immortal existences rose, including Heavenly Venerates, Buddha, the Demon Ancestor, and the Godly Way’s Ancestor God. 184 |
| High Ancient Era | After the eight supreme beings departed, the Demon, Immortal, and God races rose. The Immortal and God races subdued other peoples and established a period of stability. 184 |
| Middle Ancient Era | A sudden disaster caused experts above Pure Yang to disappear and brought about the decline of the Immortal and God families. The Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors later dominated this period before vanishing at their peak. 176 184 |
| Present Era | The Mystic, Brahmin, and Demonic Sects rose as major Dao lineages, while the God Race declined and the Godly Way became persecuted as an evil path. 184 |
After the Ancient Age, a giant heavenly net prevented normal cultivation breakthroughs into the Gods and Demons Realm. Only exceptional figures such as the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors escaped this restriction before the net’s source was sealed. 549
Heavenly Dao and Spiritual Environment
The Great Heaven World possesses an exceptionally profound and dangerous Heavenly Dao. Its laws bind all beings, and even a cultivator’s primordial spirit can only perceive a small portion of its vastness. 176
- Its spiritual qi is abundant enough that a cultivator’s Yin God can be nourished from childhood and employed upon awakening. 83
- The world’s heavenly secrets are heavily obscured by its immense size, powerful rules, countless inhabitants, and accumulated karma. Lesser premonitions are generally limited to sensing personal danger. 19
- To observe fortune, misfortune, and the workings of heaven and earth requires the ability to perceive the world’s true nature—a level associated with True Men and major Mystic Sect leaders. 19
- The Heaven Law Realm involves replacing heaven’s heart with one’s own and forming a personal domain derived from the world’s fundamental laws. 244
- The Ten Mystic Gates represent increasingly complete control of the laws within this personal heaven and earth; the Tenth Gate permits changes to heaven and earth through thought. 244
The world’s Heavenly Dao is markedly stronger than those of lower worlds. Techniques that allow a cultivator to “act according to Heaven” elsewhere cannot be completed in the Great Heaven World by simply making one’s Dao Heart equal to the Heavenly Dao. 144
Society and Governance
Races and the Human Dao
In the present era, the Human Dao flourishes. Humans expelled the Demon Race, Dragon Race, and Barbarian Race from the central Nine Provinces and occupy its qi-rich territory. 1
Power is concentrated in individual cultivation. At the highest levels, experts can destroy stars, shatter continents, or create small worlds; such figures generally withdraw from mortal affairs for centuries or millennia at a time. 6
Great Xia Dynasty
The Great Xia Dynasty ruled the Nine Provinces and was said to have endured for one hundred thousand years. 1
Its later decline sparked a major struggle among the Mystic, Buddhist, and Demonic Sects. Eighteen Rebel Kings and sixty-four factions divided the Nine Provinces, while several Dao lineages sought to replace Great Xia with a puppet regime. 323
Currency
The principal cultivator currency is Spirit Essence, a circular crystal condensed from spiritual qi rather than a natural mineral. 29
- Spirit Essence is jointly produced by the Three Great Sects of the Mystic Gate. 29
- Each unit bears the imprint of a True Man Realm expert from each of the three sects, making it impossible for even Pure Yang experts to forge. 29
- Attempts by the Brahmin and Demonic Sects to issue rival currencies failed to gain broad acceptance. 29
Cultivation System
Martial Dao
The Martial Dao is summarized by three great domains: Mastering Techniques and Arts, Understanding Laws and Principles, and Exhausting the Heavenly Dao. 6
| Domain | Structure | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Technique | Nine grades | The upper three grades are Microscopic, Artistic Conception, and Fist Momentum. 6 15 |
| Law | Three levels | Includes the Human Law, Earth Law, and Heaven Law levels. The Human Law emphasizes spiritual development, while the Earth Law can invoke heaven and earth’s power. 6 |
| Dao | No superior or inferior ranks | The highest of the three martial domains. 6 |
Early cultivation realms
| Realm | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Hundred Bones Realm | Divided into Inner and Outer Hundred Bones. Inner Hundred Bones develops internal energy, meridians, and fetal breathing; Outer Hundred Bones tempers muscles, bones, organs, qi, and blood. 5 |
| Hundred Bones Grand Perfection | Achieved by perfecting both inner and outer cultivation, harmonizing Dragon and Tiger, and breaking the Life and Death Mystic Gate. 5 |
| Two Hou Realm | Reached by refining a strand of qi after essence, qi, and spirit reach their peaks. 24 |
| Three Peng Realm | Requires severing the Three Corpses and attaining an immaculate true body; it is the peak of flesh-aperture transformation and a prerequisite for awakening the primordial spirit. 24 |
| Yin God Realm | Requires a translucent Dao Heart and the awakening of the Yin God, granting spiritual perception and power. 83 |
| Dao Embryo Realm | The decisive transition beyond mortality, reached by opening the Gate of Myriad Wonders and condensing a Dao Embryo. 70 221 |
| Dharma Aspect Realm | Considered the beginning of a sect’s upper echelon. 113 |
| Cave True Realm | Permits perception of heaven and earth’s origin and the formation of one’s own Cave Heaven and Blessed Land. 375 |
| Pure Yang Realm | Transcends heaven and earth and the Five Elements; Pure Yang beings merge with the Great Void and are not truly changed by death. 160 375 |
| Gods and Demons Realm | Refines one’s essence and status while touching the mysteries of time and space. 375 |
| Mysterious Yellow Realm | Allows the opening of heaven and earth, reforging of earth, water, fire, and wind, and creation of a Great Thousand World. 375 |
Dao Embryo cultivators are rare despite being considered only an intermediate stage. Across the entire world, their number is stated to be under ten million, most of them among the sea-dwelling races and the Demon Race. 179
Major Powers
Mystic Sect
The Mystic Sect is the dominant Dao lineage of the present era and suppresses the wider world. 1
- Three Religions, Six Schools, and Twelve Sects — Ancient and powerful inheritances centered in the Nine Provinces. 1
- Upper Three Teachings — Extremely secretive supreme lineages above the Six Schools and Twelve Daoist Sects. Their leaders have never been below Pure Yang, and their members are excluded from the usual Pure Yang, True Person, and Heavenly Pride rankings. 264
- True Martial Sect — One of the Mystic Gate’s Six Schools. Its true base is Taihe Cave Heaven, while Immortal Chamber Mountain serves as an outer sect for disciples below the Dao Embryo Realm. 113
- Huanyu Dao — One of the Twelve Daoist Sects; responsible for many of the space-teleportation formations across the Nine Provinces. 380
Brahmin and Demonic Sects
The Brahmin Sect and Demonic Sect stand alongside the Mystic Sect as principal Dao lineages, though their influence does not match the Mystic Sect’s dominance. 29 184
- The Brahmin Sect’s ultimate pursuit is Great Enlightenment, also called Tathagata. 302
- The Demonic Sect seeks ultimate freedom and unrestraint; its highest ideal is Moro, or Self-Transformation Freedom. 302
- Each of the three great sects possesses at least one Pure Yang Immortal Artifact, a key reason for their enduring status. 264
Great Xia and the Nine Wilds
The Nine Wilds is a shadow organization with deep connections to major Dao lineages and the Great Xia Dynasty. 463
- It is divided into Nine Heavens and Twenty-Eight Mansions. 463
- The lords of the Nine Heavens are at least Cave True Realm experts. 463
- The Twenty-Eight Mansions are generally staffed by Dharma Body Dao Physique-level cultivators. 463
- Its visible strength is only part of a foundation accumulated over tens of thousands of years. 463
Cave Heavens and Independent Worlds
True Men can perceive the world’s reality and open Cave Heavens and Blessed Lands. A force that has produced a True Man or stronger expert may be considered a great power partly because it possesses such a private world. 5
- Taihe Cave Heaven — The True Martial Sect’s core base, established by its successive Pure Yang True Immortals and Cave True Realm experts. 113
- Nine Heavens Secret Realm — Built by the Nine Heavens Dao Lords as a joint place to nurture the descendants of the Immortal and God races. It contains nine inheritances and nine matching magic treasures. 277
- Supreme Palace’s world — An independent cultivation holy land whose spiritual qi surpasses that of the Great Heaven World and is nearly liquefied. 388
- Thirty-three Heavens — A special illusory realm accessed through the Gate of Myriad Wonders, said to be fragments of the former Three Pure Ones Realm. 398 434
Treasures
| Rank | Description |
|---|---|
| Magic tool | A Dao Embryo Realm treasure with up to eighteen restrictions, corresponding to the eighteen heavens of the Dao Embryo. 264 |
| Soul Treasure | A magic tool whose restrictions intertwine into a soul of Dharma Law. 264 |
| Creation Spirit Treasure | Formed when a treasure soul and artifact body unite; it contains a self-contained creation and mysteries of heaven and earth. 264 |
| Pure Yang Immortal Artifact | A Pure Yang-level sect-suppressing treasure, ordinarily wielded only by a sect master. 264 |
Extreme-grade Creation Spirit Treasures possess power near Pure Yang and can rival a Cave True Realm cultivator at the Orchestrate Creation level. 264
Role in the Myriad Worlds
The Great Heaven World is called the Source Realm of the Heavens because it is considered the origin of many things within the Myriad Worlds of the Heavens, including the Demonic Path. 650
The three principal Demonic Path lineages across the heavens originated from the Great Heaven Demonic Sect—or, more fundamentally, the Demon Race. The You Heaven Ancient Realm was once a subordinate world of this Great Heaven lineage before later becoming independent. 650
Although the Great Heaven World appeared comparatively restrained after the Ancient Era, its historical depth includes primordial gods and demons, sacred Dao-attainers, progenitors of innumerable races, Heavenly Venerates, and Buddhas. The disappearance of beings above Pure Yang after the archaic era remains a central mystery. 176
Great Era
The world approaches a renewed grand era following the weakening of the ancient heavenly net and the opening created by Primordial Purple Qi. 549
World mergers and the expansion driven by the Nine Great Vortexes produced an influx of cultivators on an unprecedented scale:
