Background / History

Madara’s path began with the Uchiha stone tablet. After obtaining the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, he saw its account of combining Uchiha and Senju power. He challenged Senju Hashirama, took Hashirama’s flesh during their battle, faked his death, and eventually evolved the Rinnegan. When he read the tablet again with the Rinnegan, it revealed the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki and Infinite Tsukuyomi—information later identified as Black Zetsu’s manipulation 397.

In old age, Madara relied on the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path to sustain himself. Black Zetsu’s early intervention allowed him to create White Zetsu and begin collecting Tailed Beasts ahead of schedule, while Madara cultivated a replacement body and prepared for war 78 99 115. By the time of his rebirth, he was over seventy and had spent roughly a decade unable to leave the Demonic Statue directly 301.

After transferring his soul into the Hashirama Cell-based body, Madara resumed his plan openly. He commanded Akatsuki, amassed White Zetsu forces, collected Jinchuriki, and fielded deceased Kage-level shinobi as his “Six Paths” 301 374.

Madara’s appearance changes significantly with his condition and forms.

Personality

Madara is domineering, proud, and openly contemptuous of opponents he considers weak. Rather than conceal his deeds, he openly claims responsibility for his actions and confronts enemies under his own name 431 433.

He is also a battle-loving perfectionist. Hashirama is the only opponent Madara acknowledges as having defeated him, and the prospect of fighting Hashirama again visibly excites him 372 374. Even after surpassing Hashirama, Madara regrets that his longtime rival can no longer stand on equal footing with him 540 541.

Despite his arrogance, Madara is highly pragmatic. He uses wars, White Zetsu armies, Akatsuki members, and his Six Paths as means to gather the Nine Tailed Beasts; the large-scale conflict was ultimately a diversion while Black Zetsu and Kisame captured Killer B 541 542.
