When the words "Black Death" came from Anduin's mouth, Nick first raised an eyebrow in mild surprise, then gave a look of understanding.
"Why?" Nick asked after a moment of silence. "Why do you think the Philosopher's Stone is connected to the Black Death?"
"Because the Philosopher's Stone is powerful enough! It possesses a power beyond the reach of ordinary understanding!"
Anduin kept his eyes fixed on Nick, as if trying to read something in his gaze. Of course, he wasn't stupid enough to use Occlumency on him. Using mental magic on a wizard who had lived for several centuries would be nothing but a humiliation.
"Also, by chance, I learned a little about Life Alchemy, and I can clearly recognize its traces on the Philosopher's Stone."
"To create a treasure like the Philosopher's Stone, the lives it consumed must have numbered in the astronomical range!"
"Your insight is impressive, Anduin." Nick nodded in admiration, then immediately turned serious. "That's right. I can tell you plainly that the Philosopher's Stone is indeed connected to Life Alchemy."
"So you're admitting that the Philosopher's Stone was the culprit behind the Black Death outbreak back then?"
Anduin asked with a grave expression. He could tell that Nick wasn't lying to him—or, at least, that he didn't mean to.
"If... I mean, if..." Nick didn't answer Anduin directly. "If the truth is as you suspect, what do you plan to do? It's been several hundred years since the fifteenth century. Are you going to seek justice for the people of that time?"
"I don't know."
Anduin answered honestly, a dangerous glint gradually appearing in his eyes. "But it proves that whoever caused such a catastrophe can't be trusted. Leaving someone like that at large is a massive threat in itself."
"History has taught me
